Wow a gr8 tasting, and always love the cork chucking 😂
ОтветитьWould be great to see them in your store to buy. It's not easy to buy German wines in EU.
ОтветитьFantastic video again! Thanks so much!
Ответитьwe have the maximin grunhaus on our pairing at work atm, really classy and vibrant riesling
ОтветитьIt's a shame it's difficult to find German wines in France/Spain in stores, you convinced me to try them but the choice is very limited.
Ответить😩 I can't find most of these in my area 😭
ОтветитьHey Konstantin, tried some of those wines at the Howard Ripley en primeur in London, and that Wittman was fantastic! Also you do look quite tired after all those tastings, have some rest man, we don't want you to burn yourself! Look after yourself, your content is absolutely brilliant!
Ответить👍
ОтветитьTough to get these in the US also, and the differentiation of German wines makes it sometimes tough. I doubt I’d see any of these in normal channels but then again probably hard to get in de also
ОтветитьInteresting look attached there 2022 & 2021 vintages in Germany. With climate change and irregular weather patterns this'll will likely increase in frequency.
Whiles VDP's GGs are amazing and compared with Napa, Cote de Beaune, Cote d' Or, Bolgheri, etc they do have a good QPR.
But they are still preparing pricey, especially in export markets. I usually choose them Ortswein from a VDP Weingut. As i know the quality will be good and also give an indication of their Erste Lage and GG wines.
Thank you for sharing! I’m currently looking to see if any are available in the US to bring into the small wine shop I buy for. I’d be happy to try and share any of these. Prost!
ОтветитьNot sure i have a favorite VDP wine but Emrich-Schönleber Halenberg GG is really good
ОтветитьMy favorite VDP wine is the Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschiek Spätlese 2017. 🤤
ОтветитьWhaaal! Really nice wines ! To answer your question : I love the Künstler VDP wines . But I recently found a store with some old trocken Künstler bottles that were really well kept and the wine was amazing , reduced , darker , but yet lively and fresh ! Riesling can be really amazing ! Cheers !
ОтветитьHeading to Germany in 3 weeks time. Good timing to learn more about German white
ОтветитьThe US market is seriously missing out on German wines. Given the quality, it’s so hard to find any red wines even in the largest markets like New York! Hope importers and distributors up their game soon…

ОтветитьGreat video as always!
ОтветитьThe Wittmann Morstein is one of my favorite and most memorable dry Rieslings! Niceee... As much as a like Rings, Huber, and Stodden... My favorite Spatty producer in Germany is Rudolf Furst.
ОтветитьStop throwing things around, it is annoying :(
ОтветитьI do tastings in paris to tourists and most the time I find the Germans who come are not enthusiastic about German wines, such a shame, there's so much good stuff!
ОтветитьCould you please explain what a “barrel sample” is for those of us who do not know?
ОтветитьHis enthusiasm is infectious, love the show.
ОтветитьI am a big fan of the wines of Weingut Keller, specifically their GG higher-end wines like Kirchspiel and Hubacker.
Ответитьmy 2 favorites, rieslig and spätburgunder. thanks for testing. i'll check these wines asap.
ОтветитьI always look in the German wine section in the US but the selection is always so poor. The difference between a good and bad store is whether they have a selection of 5 rieslings, or a dozen rieslings. I've never seen a German Pinot anywhere. Stores are weird though. The same store will organize both by country and by variety. I've never seen a Pinot in the "Germany" section, but it's possible one or two were buried in the "Pinot Noir" section that I didn't spot. I'll have to ask next time.
Ответитьdont get me wrong love your channel , but 90 euro on a bottle is not what 90% of the People can just spend. and its easy to find good wine at the price point Finding gems cheap thats the real talent IMO
ОтветитьExcellent timing on this one; the Kulinarische Weinwanderung in Freinsheim is this weekend and Rings' Saumagen just shot to the top of my must-try list while out on the trail!
Thanks for sharing your expertise, particularly on German wines.
I choose Clemens Busch Fahrlay. It has beautiful exotic fruit tastes and subtle accidity.
I always wonder how it tasts so different from the wines from a few curves further, like those of Dr. Loosen for example.
I have the Gutswein from Grünhaus as well, which is really complete for a Gutswein.
Nice herbal tones and the same exotic fruit as in Busch' wines.
They all sound really good. You've given them some "humdinger" scores ay!
ОтветитьI learnt something from this video. GG is dry. Thanks!
ОтветитьRuwer is heaven!
ОтветитьLiebe es, dass du Saumagen erklärt hast 😅
ОтветитьThoughts on Ancellotta?
ОтветитьHello Konstantin. Great Video, as always. Just a question: Which glas(es) was/were used during the VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS Event in Wiesbaden? Only the one which is shwon on the most pictures (with Rieling) - and which was it? Have there been others as well maybe for all the different pinots ? At most pictures it looks like the "Zwiesel Glas Weindegustationsglas Alloro" was used ?.
ОтветитьI really like that you gave Rings a big stage in this video!
For me one of the best upcoming, if not allready there, producers of Germany!
Amazing concentrated, reductive and still refreshing and pleasant Pfalzer wines. GG’s having their own signature, while the ‘base wines’ (Kalk und stein/das kleine kreuz) are also one of a kind!
I am also a big Fan of the winery Rings.
It is almost 15 minutes away of my home and these guys are doing an awesome job.
When you are not able to get the high end wines just start with the "Gutswein" of them because this one is already a pleasure.
Same for their other basis wines are just on an outstanding level and you get it for round about 10-12 € :)
"....half a bottle of blue nun...."
ОтветитьHi Konstantin, recently discovered your channel and thoroughly enjoy it. Have subscribed both the channel and newsletter. You may be interested to know Scientific American,October issue , has an article concerning the origins of wine based on a broad genetic study. Quite interesting! Grüße aus Berlin!
ОтветитьSehr sympathisch und auch einige meiner präferierten Weine. Immer interessant und echt ein schönes Beispiel für typisch deutschen Humor. Immer wieder ein Genuss.
ОтветитьFunny stuff. I went to Berhard Huber 8 years ago :)
ОтветитьMy fav from a vdp winery was the 2011 SA Prum GG Riesling; a liquid poem. Magic wine. I have to say though, these floods really saddened me, such a terrible loss of life due to extreme weather. It’s valiant of you to showcase a wine from the region that got hit the most.
Ответитьgreat video, just asked a friend who was in Berlin to see if she could get me one or more of these bottles but the shops she went to didn't carry any of them, however, one of the shop's manager told her that she knew you, pretty cool.
ОтветитьThese look delicious. I was salivating at those Riesling descriptions 🤤
ОтветитьI know it's not taking anything away from the product, but It deserves to be mentioned that "biodynamic" is anthroposophic bullshit based on the magic theories from Rudolf Steiner.
ОтветитьI wonder how my favourite Gunderloch Rothenberg Riesling Spätlese would fare in this tasting and competition and what would be it's alternatives... Our wine importers don't ship them here any more. Not sure, how these smell notes are called, but for me it's a hint of petrol/diesel in it (and that's what turns me on!), very mineral, the vineyard's soil looks like red broken pots :) I have to look for Wittmann and give it a try :)
ОтветитьI don't have the budget to go for GGs.
As a VDP vinery I like meyer Näkel though I mostly stick to their gutsweine. I remember having the Kräuterberg Große Lage once or twice and liking it quite well. I havent drunk enough Jean stodden to have an opinion about their wines tbh.
Day to day i stick to WG Mayschoss Altenahr, Dagernova or Kriechel as far as german wine is concerned.Non VDP but what you get for your money is great.
Yes its all Ahr valley wine, but thats maybe cause that was the nearest wine region and I've always liked reds more than whites.
Back in the mid-80's I was primarily a drinker of beer and would indulge in trying out 6 to 8 different kinds of beers a week. Back then I thought that Germany was almost solely a beer-drinking country with the exception of Riesling and Gewurztraminer. I'm still very ignorant of wine production from different countries and regions but I appreciate tastings such as these which at least give me a glimmering of the kinds of grapes that are being cultivated and the styles of wine that are emerging from those grapes within the context of country and region. My favorite wine experiences so far have come from Old Vine Zinfandel. Do you plan on any tastings (blind or 20/20) that will focus on just the Zinfandel grape?
ОтветитьGOOD WINE IS THE ONE MADE OF GRAPES AND THE ONE THAT YOU LIKE.
