Personally I feel the best approach would work like this!! FIRST set up a moon base as a "jumping off point" because gravity IS weaker on the surface of the moon, and sending supplies like fuel TO THE MOON, makes more sense!! THEN pick a place on Mars!! Begin with missions to Mars that "lands non perishable goods on the surface"!! THIS could include certain items like computers, building supplies and so on!! In fact ships, IF they were funded, could deliver items weekly or even monthly ahead of the trip to the point where literally millions if items needed COULD already be "on the ground", by the time they were needed!! And old tech, even by our standards today, COULD BE used (look at Voyager), to do certain tasks!!!

Ultimately, WITHOUT wasting a lot of time....then you send "your team"!! BY then all the supplies that would be needed was fuel, food AND the people willing to work there!! Everything else would be right there, ready and waiting! It would save tons on costs, and all those people would have to do is "set things up" and begin to work and research!!!!!!

LOOK in the upper right of that cover picture. A woman has just had a baby. In my opinion having a baby in Space or bringing children should be against the law. A child has a God given right to be born and raised here on the Good Earth, with gravity, an atmosphere, and the warmth of the Sun on your naked face.

Look at that picture of the Mars space craft. They make it look fun like an Ocean cruise or something. But I read that in weightlessness you always feel like you are falling and are always nauseous. Right now, people go to the Space station as a resume builder. Just something to put on their resume. I don't think they are going to look at a LONG trip to Mars in the same way.

Earth to Mars can't be taken seriously until we include rotating sections for gravity. Especially as this improves physical and mental health for the crew a hundred fold.

Two things. You assume that the starship will need the same amount of fuel to lift of from mars. Except, again, thinner atmosphere, AND lower gravity. Second. Who says you need to land the starship? It’s called a lander for a reason. You just need to get people to the ground. So who says you can’t use the mini starship to land, but still have the large one to travel to mars?

There is No good reason to send Humans to Mars. Mars atmosphere is approx 1% the density of Earths and that is mostly CO2, You would have to bring every breath of Oxygen with you unless there is some way to collect it from that atmosphere. That and the Months it takes to get there is also prohibitive. I would rather see some kind of outpost on the Moon though that would be difficult enough but at least that is only days away from Earth.

Ответить

Nuclear fixes that solar panel problem. Mars is plenty radioactive. A micro reactor powered by decay will probably do the job quiet well.

It takes four rockets to get to Mars and back again. Acceleration and braking times two. Send two spacecraft in case one system fails. There's no Coast Guard in Space. But look at what the robots have found.......not much. Who is going to invest years of their life on a mission to Mars when nothing is there. It doesn't look good for a mission to Mars.

help them spy.

If we have to send robots and AI to Mars, capable of building complex structures for the arrival of people, why even bothering to send people? The robots could do anything people do. Or we could skip Mars altogether and move on directly to asteroid mining with robots.

The whole thing is a misunderstanding. We are not going to live on Mars, any more than we inhabit Antarctica. Mars is cold, dark, windy and extremely dangerous. A few rich people might go for a couple of months, for the thrill. There is nothing there that we need or want. Enjoy the fantasy, if you want, but it ain't gonna happen.

First to give respect to Buzz Aldrin, who has served his country and the cause of space exploration very well. He is a legend.
Along with that praise however, for decades I have disagreed with Aldrin about his negative view of the Moon as a human crewed destination and his overly optimistic plans to get humans to Mars.
To sum it up; extending space habitation for humans should be done step by step. Right now humanity is able to maintain a continual human presence in low earth orbit. That is what we are able to do.
The Moon can be reached in 3 days compared with 5 to 9 months going to Mars.
The next step is to create a human crewed outpost on the Moon and eventually establish permanent research, industrial and habitation facilities there.
Once that is done, then humanity will be ready to tackle Mars for permanent human habitation.
