How much time do you work at your dayjob and how much time do you spend on making music per week? (on average)
It's interesting for me because I work full time and feel like I find too little time for music.
Also; have you considered putting your Albums on Bandcamp for "name your own price"? Even if someone only pays $1 for the whole album, thats still more then streaming.
I want to switch to bass clarinet and I’m a b flat clarinetist what should I do?
ОтветитьYou should make a video about ASCAP vs BMI explaining them
ОтветитьVery informative, thank you!
ОтветитьVery informative, thanks for sharing!
ОтветитьThanks for being so insanely honest in this video. As a professional musician who also works in the tech community during the day, it’s nice to hear other musicians experiencing my struggles! Keep shredding!
ОтветитьA great service to all human kind. You can expect a shining star from the interplanetary council of artists. Thank you for your service.
ОтветитьDead ass out of those 5.1 million minutes watched I probably had 25,000 of those 😂. I rewatch your videos all the time. Especially around recital and jury season!
ОтветитьI bow down to you in great respect and admiration. It's safe to say that you could earn much more than you do, but that just means that you have made a conscious decision to travel the path you're on. It's obvious that you love what you do, and of course, are very good at it. Your playing is great, but you explain things well also. Your videos are a wealth of information, and I have been playing for a while. There is always something new to learn, or be reminded of. All the best to you.
ОтветитьCould you review the tuyama low c bass clarinet? I found it on amazon! It's really cheap and there's no review.
Love your channel!
Great video and very informative !
ОтветитьWait.....YOU WERE AT MICHIGAN STATE!! I LIVE RELATIVELY CLOSE TO THERE AND NOW IM SAD I DIDNT GET TO MEET YOU
ОтветитьHey I play bass clarinet and clarinet but I have to decide wether or not to play alto clarinet but I can’t choose out of the three because my band class only allowed you to play one instrument so can you help me plz
ОтветитьBold, Brave and Brilliant :-) Love your videos coz' your a comedian at heart ;-)))
ОтветитьThat was very interesting!
ОтветитьBrass machine
Ответитьone dislike :(
ОтветитьYeah but u forgot to tell us how much u make from amazon
ОтветитьThank you so much for doing this. I teach lessons and schlep around for a lot of $50 gigs every year (how does it go $50,000/yr education, $15,000 instrument, 500 miles round trip all for $50, lol!), and sometimes I forget why I'm doing this. It's really hard to not take a hit to the ego around this time of year when I realize that most years I'm really lucky to end up in the black after all is said and done. But in the end, when I'm playing a great gig with great musicians, I'm not thinking about the money. Not one bit. (and yes, a spouse with a great job helps!)
ОтветитьSo true, it's a tough life but I couldn't do anything else.
ОтветитьMy birthday is on tax day lol ripp
ОтветитьThank you for sharing! This is a reality that I wish I had learned in music school. It is so great to hear you talk about the business side of music in such an honest and positive way! The music community needs more of this!
ОтветитьThis is AMAZING thank you. But also wow it's hard to make a living at music!!
ОтветитьIn other words, unless you are REALLY good at it and you REALLY want to do it, don't become a professional musician.
ОтветитьThanks for being so open to us. A lot of people don't like to be open even when they make a lot of money. So I thank you for doing this and thank you for producing content for us. Working / Staying in art needs a lot of passion.
ОтветитьCan’t believe 1/3rd comes off for tax. Even in the high tax UK it’s less than 1/4.
ОтветитьAnd very pretty mailers they are, too!
ОтветитьThe difference between a professional musician and a pizza from {your favorite pizza place}? A pizza can feed a family of four.
ОтветитьInterlochen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
ОтветитьI applaud your honesty! So funny and so telling. I love your playing and love your reviews!! I make / made a lot of money but... I suck at playing instruments. So - you got me there! I really like your channel. Thanks!
ОтветитьThanks for sharing! watching this during tax season I feel your pain
ОтветитьEvery music student should watch this video before attending music school. Great information!
ОтветитьThank you! I teach public school music and gig on the side. Your honesty illustrates the struggle for many of my performing colleagues. Don't get me wrong: I love teaching. But it pays the bills and keeps me sane to know I have a regular paycheck. Gigging gets to be a bonus, and who doesn't enjoy a bonus?!
The hard part for me is carving out practice time. Pre-pandemic, I would practice clarinet after-school where ever I finished teaching that day. Sometimes, I'd even bring my bassoon if I had something coming up, and could manage carrying it with all the other instruments I'd have to cart in.
J'aime cet homme, quelle belle bouille. Ses videos sont intelligents, frais, captivants. Bravo.
ОтветитьVery interesting video. It is evidence of what I have always believed: It is very difficult to make a living as a full-time professional musician. I'm an amateur. Music is a wonderful hobby, but I never seriously considered becoming a professional musician.
ОтветитьYandex is our (Russia and a few other CIS states) rival to google, its got absolutely everything, even taxis. Love your work by the way!
ОтветитьThank you for being real. It helps me personally.
ОтветитьHow much expense takes yada yada yada? 😅
ОтветитьTotally get that last statement. Good to have some humor.
ОтветитьYou're telling me he isn't in a professional orchestra or similar establishment?
ОтветитьThank goodness for your day job! I’m glad to be a customer of yours, especially after seeing this.
ОтветитьHey hey, I love your videos! I’ve been playing the clarinet for 5 years and I’m getting my first bass clarinet in a month! Your guides have really helped me and I especially love your clarinet choir videos. You say that you stream music and I was wondering where I might find your music? Whether it be Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Keep it up man, I love your content!
ОтветитьLabor of love if nothing else
ОтветитьHat's off to you 🎩
ОтветитьAs am accountant and musician I am doubly fascinated
ОтветитьThis is probably the single most useful video for prospective musicians in the US/Canada. Thanks!
ОтветитьWhat about sessions for hollywood blockbusters? Please tell me that a movie like Star Wars paid their musicians handsomely...
