Gabbie Hanna's "Apology" Is Not Enough

Making a blanket “I’m sorry” video addressed to “everyone I’ve ever hurt or worked with” is not showing any kind of real change. It may be a personal exercise in forgiving herSELF but has absolutely nothing to do with making amends with other people. Taking accountability for your actions with other people is not done by just sending out a blanket “I’m sorry” to the universe essentially.

The way you talk about how Gabbie just kept going reminded me of Jessie’s words…“[Scary] is the perfect word to describe her. She bombards you, she will hit you below the belt, tell you some of the most hurtful shit you have ever heard from another human being.” I’m so sorry you both fell victim to such a person.

As someone who isn’t neurotypical I feel like this is the classic issue where a lot of people don’t understand that just because someone is neurodivergent doesn’t = they are a sweet person…. Like just because someone has a mental illness doesn’t mean they are automatically nice and caring people 😬

I agree with you 99.5%, gh was clearly manipulative and juvenile. The only point that sticks for me, and it is the one you apologized for, is Doggolescence. I completely believe you did not intend to be insulting with it, and I also agree that parody is not inherently insulting or mocking. But in this particular case, you are comparing her to a dog. Once again I do not think you intended the insult that could potentially imply, but comparing people to animals (and especially in this case of a woman to a female dog) can be read as very insulting and was probably a poor choice in hindsight.

I love how passionate you are about talking about poetry. That's why it was so nice watching them. Not big into poetry but you breaking it down and comparing it helped

Gosh I remember when this whole thing was going down and I was so surprised bc you genuinely didn't do anything wrong and others have done much worse and nothing happened.

I haven't used Twitter since I stopped getting paid to use Twitter. I occasionally check it for codes, but I haven't tweeted for about 2 years, and I never look for anything that might be toxic.

First video I've seen of yours. Your intelligence and attention to literary criticism is obvious and abundant. Serious commentary about literature is something I haven't explored since high school, quite refreshing.

There were a few moments where you weren't at your finest hour (for VERY valid reasons), but those were minor in the grand scheme of things, and weren't even pointed in the direction of the subject, but rather their friend.

I think the parody is great. I remember making a parody of our college's human rights club, and their motto/stickers "there's no such thing as a lesser person". There was a first year engineering design competition at the end of the year, I made a banner that said "theres no such thing as a lesser robot". Human rights are serious, I support them and all that, but you gotta admit that saying there aren't lesser robots in a literal competition which will numerically determine the lesser robot is pretty funny. Even at the deeper level, it makes a commentary about the actual inequalities in the real world. Theres some people like us who were going to a fancy college, theres some people who have little economic or educational opportunities. Theres some groups with 7 people, some groups with 2 people. As a result, the outcome was different, the people/robots with the structural advantages came out on top. Should it have been that way? No. But saying "there's no such thing as a lesser robot" is wrong, intentionally so.

Human rights and child abuse are not jokes, but they are fair game for well considered parody. You seemed to have done that.

I actually got into an argument with a friend of mine over needing an apology to forgive over not needing one. He had this girlfriend who did something that upset him (I forget the specifics), she never apologized, but she did amend her behavior to not do it again. My argument was, she likely noticed that it upset you and amended her behavior accordingly. That should be enough. His was that, if she doesn't apologize, then her change in behavior could be just coincidental. We ended up agreeing to disagree.

I'm guessing that most of the people who claim you insulted her in your videos didn't actually watch your videos. They were just going by what she said.

"We know that people have a low sense of self control." Some people do, and some people don't. If there is someone who will hook up with any random person in sexy clothing or takes that as an invitation, that's their problem and their responsibility.

I feel like this whole thing is just so confusing almost because it's LAUGHABLE how twisted this has gotten. When you send a book to a CRITIC who actually reviews books CRITICALLY and without bias you absolutely should be expecting a legitimate review and not a fluff review?
That right there shows a lack of either critical thinking on Gabbie's part OR that she is just a drama-loving human who intentionally starts this sort of stuff.

I'm so sorry you've had to deal with all of this. Mental breakdown or not, Gabbie's actions of being so hateful and innacurate when she has a platform that big is not acceptable or excusable.

Poetry is absolutely a complex art, and this is, unfortunately, the key aspect which many so-called "poets" are unable to grasp. All too many people think that poetry is simply a matter of writing line after line where the last word on a given line rhymes with the last word of the previous line. That's not poetry! Anyone can play "find the rhyming word".

A truly credible reviewer provides honest, objective critique, rather than pandering to the wants or needs of the author, people who orbit them, or the status quo. That credible reviewer is you. You could have refused to offer your appraisal of Dandelions and simply waved Gabbie away, jumping to the conclusion that it couldn't have been any better than her prior works -- an assumption that some people are hastily inclined to make. You gave it a chance as any good, open-minded reviewer would and for someone to try and pull you into undeserved and understandably unwanted drama really brings their character and general thought processes into question.

Sorry to spam your comments but I have to say this. Well, I don't HAVE to, but I'd like to. It's so ironic that you get called a narcissist yet you're not the one who goes into red alert meltdown mode in response to constructive criticism. Narcissists CANNOT tolerate any criticism at all. Unless they're constantly showered with praise they're wounded. The whole Christianity thing is just a facade, it's engineered to garner attention.

I very seldom describe people as narcissistic because I think it’s a lazy way to say “I don’t like this person, they made me mad”. I’m not attempting to armchair diagnose her with any cluster B disorders and i use the word in a purely colloquial sense when I say Gabbie Hanna is a textbook narcissist.

I used to be subscribed to you on a previous account - I found you cause of your critique video (the first one) and I watched it all go down when she lost it on you. Safe to say her new shtick absolutely did not fool me - she's still a vile, mean girl; she just pretends she likes god, and virtue and emotional openess. You are fully justified to be angry at her still, SHE HASN'T EVEN APOLOGISED TO JESSI!!
Honestly I was glad when I originally heard she went away, I'd hoped she'd just stay away so everyone could have a semblance of peace but of course in typical narc fashion, she's back to causing drama and problems for no real reason other than attention :')
