FIXING JAMMED ICE MAKER TRAY IN A KENMORE ELITE REFRIGERATOR

Great video!!! Thanks for that. I have a couple of problems. The plastic support pin/axle on the right side broke off. I'm going to hope that JB Weld Plastic Epoxy will work on this plastic material. But, in the meantime, I took out the tray to see about fixing it. In order to do that, I had to release the sensoor on the bottom of the tray. Because I still had ice left, I dangled the wire with the sensor in the bucket. Well, wouldn't you know, it was long enough to get caught in the dispensing mechanism and it tore off the sensor. Now I have to solder the tiny wires to thr sensor, as well as repair the tray. I really couldn't see that I could do the fine wire repair with the ice maker in the fridge and I was dreading having to remove it. Now no more dread!!! Thank you!!!!


If the JB Weld doesn't work, I'll have to fashion a new pin end of some kind to support the tray - but that's another story.

Great repair. I have the exact refrigerator and the same problem with my ice maker. I, however, won’t try to attempt what you did. I’m not sure about myself doing the repair. I fortunately have a repair agreement so I’ll let them do it. But I have a question...what is the issue with this? Why does it keep freezing on you?

Mine does the cycle fine if I press the button but by itself it makes ice but the tray don't turn to drop in the bin... any experience with replacing the thermostat or It isn't worth it?

My Lg ice maker would not make ice but hitting the test button it worked But only once would not repeat I ordered a new ice maker installed it and did the same thing works with test button but some thing is telling it to not repeat it seems mechanics work and the new set came with new LEDs help

I'm confused...with everything you did, I did not see how the tray became unstuck. Mine looks just like yours...stuck in the same position. I wish there was a way to do this without taking it all the way out of the compartment. Okay, I took it apart and figured it out! Yippee!! It seems to be working, however, it remains to be seen if it will create and deliver ice and not get stuck again. Fingers crossed Thank you so much!

I have the the exact same refrigerator. The ice maker has quit making ice several times and is unreliable. Ice builds up on the seals so I clean that off and hope it works. But it still sounds like it is trying to 'pull' the water into it?? Do you think its a seal problem or should I replace the whole ice maker?

I have the LG version of this fridge. The tray was stuck as well. I tried the hairdryer technique mentioned below and after 30 seconds the ice tray rotated again. Thanks for the video and good luck to everyone trying to fix this finicky designed ice machine.

the hole that the ice fall into and out of has a little rubber door that seals up. I think mine i leaking air because I keep getting large frozen ice jams in the chute so I assume air is getting up there and causing the cubes to melt down and blocking it. I have to pull out the bin and there I find a snow ball in the chute every time and constantly. Do you know what part the rubber seal is or where Id find it. thank you!!!

Thanks for this very detailed video! This is exactly what is wrong with my ice maker. It’s not frozen, it just gets jammed on that right side. I was hesitant to take it apart at first but not after seeing your video. This is super helpful. I am going to give it a shot tomorrow and let you see how it goes. I have subscribed to your channel as well :) . Was yours making a loud clicking sound when it would get jammed?

As you were disassembling it, I wanted you to tell us the function of each part, and the purpose of this our that. I don't mind you indenting names for things, as long as you tell us what the thing is for. You forgot to say why you put the tape on in the first place; what was it supposed to prevent or accomplish? This is the tray that twists/ flexes the ice, to force the cubes to drop-out. Commenters seem to agree that a hair dryer works, but you repaired your ice maker with a home-made plastic shim. You mentioned that the tray was "stuck", but you forgot to say how. You showed us how to remove screws one handed, but did not tell the order of operations. Maybe the background music was preventing us from hearing. Please pardon my English.

I have found by just taking the unit out and unplugging it from the door and then putting it back in gets my icemaker working again. Have to do this about every 3 years.

I tried this without the tape or plastic piece and when I woke it made no ice and was stuck in the same position. I removed it and put a piece of plastic in there wish me luck.

So the tray is flipped back to normal but there’s no water in the tray. I checked a couple of times after having the fridge closed. Is this normal?

3 hrs of same stuff wanting to see the same end of the ice maker to see if something was missing as mine was doing the same. Going to try ur was to avoid me “ over engineering” Figured there was a missing bushing or cap. Just bad design and cheap plastic but rather try this the 230$.

Oh, I have learned to just loosen the top screw enough to slide the assembly up and off. Saves the hassle of dropping if ya don’t have magnetic screwdrivers.

We went out of town for 2 weeks and the sensor was covered by ice and it won't release the ice. I'm going to try to remove following your video to make sure we clear all obstructions. Wish me luck!

I just went through the same thing. It’s now making ice, but not dumping it into the Caddy. I wonder if it has something to do with the ice tray sensor???

QUESTION: The ice tray in my fridge cracked on the right side, and water was leaking out, jamming up the whole mechanism. I removed everything, used epoxy to glue the cracks in the ice tray, and put everything back. When I hit the test button, the ice tray rotates, but at the end of the rotation, the right side hits some kind of block, and the whole ice tray twists. So my question is, is this twisting supposed to happen? Is this the way it gets the ice cubes out of the tray? It’s this twisting that caused a crack in the first place, so I’m confused as to this whole system and it’s reliability.

when i put mine back together, the tray didn't rotate back upright. Do you think i installed it upside down?

Our ice caddy doesn't even come out!! its jammed.

I have this fridge .. question is the ice tray supposed to go all the way around and dump ice .. or go half way around and dump ice and return to its ice making position by going back the same direction it came from?

Did your hack help keep it from getting jammed again? I’m wondering if i should do it again and use that method to keep it from moving. I have taken it out before so this will be my second time. It did last a while beforeI started to have the problem again. Did it help by putting the tape?

Omgosh, thank you, everyone! In less than a minute, when I put the hair dryer on it, the ice tray started rotating and clicked in place.
