Karthik was one hardcore player back then. I would admit he was attractive and had a natural charm, but it seems he wasn't in cinema for acting, but it was for the women. He had flings with almost all of his heroines (In Tamil, I would say "marathukku saree katina kooda jollu vidara aasamiyee karthik"). Many producers/directors were fed up with Karthik since he would land up late on the 1st day of shooting and pick up the heroine and disappear for the day. Needless to say he holds the record for most new heroines/debutants acting against him. In fact that's why a section of directors avoided casting him in the movies. Of course they blamed his laziness and all that but the truth was something else. His most prominent flings were with Radha (which is why her daughter's name is Karthika lol), Ambika, Ravali, Malavika, Rambha, Meena, Revathi, Sri Vidhya, BanuPriya, Kushboo, Silk, Kamala Kamesh and the list goes on and on... Anyways, he did have a serious relationship with Sripriya (or let's say she was way more serious about it). They used to go out, still he rejected her love, so she attempted suicide. To relieve himself from this issue, he announced that he was in love with Ragini, who was his co-star in the movie SolaiKuyil, and they would get married soon, which left Sripriya stunned. In fact Sripriya attempted suicide when Karthik married Ragini. She consumed poison and drove to the studios where both of them were in a shooting. She collapsed in the studios and was taken to the hospital. This became a big news for the press. Karthik told the press that he had been going out with Sripriya for some time, but that did not mean he was going to marry her. In fact he told that only Sripriya loved him and he did not love her. Ragini and Karthik both got married even before the movie Solaikuyil was released. The open credits would say Mrs. Ragini Karthik. Karthik's family was against the wedding, however. Apparently his late father, Muthuraman, used to be so particular about caste (he doesn't even act with heroines from low caste), so there was a big argument between Karthik and his family when he got married to Ragini, who was from the Badaga tribal group (the same tribe that Sai Pallavi/Vani Bhojan are from). Karthik's leelaigal didn't stop here: although Ragini was of the Badaga tribal group, her family was extremely rich. To acquire this wealth, he got Ragini's sister, Rathi, pregnant and married her too. Karthik has three sons: two from Ragini and one from Rathi.
