Anything that was made by the gentiles hands are a danger to your heart, pancrea, kidneys, liver, blood immune sytem, thyroids and your colon, oh, let's not forget the manmade pharmaceutical drugs which destroy your organs that make you more ill on top of your illness which trigger off HBP, high cholesterol, destroys the 83 minerals in your body that you need to keep you alive, some attacks your nerve system, balance, shut dow your sugar which we need for energy, etc, etc, etc. I stop taking that manmade crap a year ago. I went to a nutritionist for wellness to use food and herbs for my medication, I feel a 100 percent better without any major side effects, and all my blood work and organs teasts come back normal without these hars drugs being involved. People need to become thinkers not non-thinkers/not letting someone else do your thinking for you. when your body speaks to you, you listen to the warning signs it telling you.

The Doctor on the right is completely wrong and unaware about sugar as the main driver toward Type2 diabetes and is apparently unaware of much current research. It is the sugar not the fat. See Dr. Robert Lustig for state of the art understanding. Plus there are numerous (including mine) accounts of beating type 2 diabetes by removing added sugar from the diet and going back to natural foods, no human processing or manipulation. Stop consuming added sugar and you lose weight immediately and automatically.

The most popular types of sugar alcohols you'll find in various foods:

• Erythritol — This type is now one of the packaged foods and beverages most popular "natural," zero-calorie sweeteners. There are zero calories and zero carbs in erythritol. It contains about 60 percent to 80 percent of the sweetness of table sugar. You'll find this type in products like gum, candies, jellies, jams, chocolate bars, yogurt, and low-calorie beverages.
• Xylitol — This is a crystalline alcohol and a derivative of xylose, a type of aldose sugar not digestible by the bacteria in our digestive systems. It's usually produced in a lab from xylose but is also naturally derived from the birch tree's bark. Unlike erythritol, xylitol is not entirely calorie-free; it's about 40 percent lower in calories than regular table sugar, providing about 10 calories per teaspoon (compared to about 16 per teaspoon of sugar).
• Mannitol — Mannitol has 50 to 70 percent of the sweet taste of sugar. Consumption has been linked with bloating and diarrhea in some people.
• Sorbitol — Sorbitol tastes less sweet than sugar, providing about 50 percent of the relative sweetness. This means it's often used in more significant amounts, which is part of why it tends to cause diarrhea.

Artificial Sweeteners:
• Increase your cancer risk and harm your blood sugar and gut health.
• Artificial sweeteners might increase appetite and promote weight gain.

Artificial sweeteners a.k.a.:
-- Sugar Substitutes are chemicals added to some foods and beverages to make them taste sweet.
-- “Intense Sweeteners” because they provide a taste like a table sugar but up to several thousand times sweeter.

Beware Artificial Sweeteners:
• Artificial sweeteners may cause cravings for sugary foods.
• The artificial sweetener saccharin disrupted gut bacteria balance.
• Some artificial sweeteners may cause unpleasant symptoms, such as headaches, depression, and seizures in some individuals.
• People with mood disorders may be more likely to experience depression.
• Symptoms in response to aspartame consumption.
• What’s more, some people are allergic to sulfonamides — the class of compounds to which saccharin belongs. Saccharin may lead to breathing difficulties, rashes, or diarrhea for them.
• Certain artificial sweeteners like sucralose reduce insulin sensitivity and affect the gut bacteria.
• Artificial sweeteners should be avoided by people who have phenylketonuria (a defect in a gene known as the PAH gene) or are allergic to sulfonamides (any of a class of synthetic drugs).

It's only correlation. The study doesn't differentiate between erythritol the body makes itself and the erythritol you ingest. Also, meta analysis studies are not reliable.

So did he just say basically "the fat we eat is the fat we wear"? It's eating too much, in a caloric surplus, that makes a person obese. Sure, with a higher fat, processed food diet, it's easy to eat in a calorie surplus. But this idea that eating whole food, plant-based vegan is the only way to get there is just wrong. Lots of very lean cuts of meat that you could eat and still keep your caloric intake from fats under 10% or what ever Dr. Barnard recommends. In fact, if I substitute my tofu with boneless chicken breast, I'd be eating 50%-70% less fat.

As for causes of type 2 diabetes:

From the NIH:
============
What is the main cause of diabetes type 2?

Overweight, obesity, and physical inactivity

You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are not physically active and are overweight or have obesity. Extra weight sometimes causes insulin resistance and is common in people with type 2 diabetes.
============

From Diabetes UK:
==============
Does sugar cause diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

We know that sugar does not cause type 1 diabetes, nor is it caused by anything else in your lifestyle. In type 1 diabetes, the insulin producing cells in your pancreas are destroyed by your immune system.

With type 2 diabetes, the answer is a little more complex. Though we know sugar doesn’t directly cause type 2 diabetes, you are more likely to get it if you are overweight. You gain weight when you take in more calories than your body needs, and sugary foods and drinks contain a lot of calories.
==============

So the same answer holds true for fat. It contributes to diabetes (type 2) if it puts you in a calorie surplus and makes you overweight or obese. A bacon double cheeseburger from 5 Guys has 1060 calories. A large fries from 5 Guys has 1314 calories. There are 302 calories in each burger patty, 80 calories in 2 pieces of bacon. Their buns have 236 calories. So the bun itself is about equal to a burger patty.

So if you just have 2 burger patties and bacon, that's 684 calories in total. Maybe folks are gaining weight because of the other 1690 calories they're eating, not to mention all the other food during the day.

It's the standard American eating diet that causes type 2 diabetes, not any specific macro nutrient. Hyper palatable food the encourages overconsumption. Not "fats", not "sugar", not "meat". Lots of eating patterns have been shown to reduce the levels of diabetes. You use science and medical sounding words, but you're not thinking like a real scientist. There's no problem with your personal bias, but to omit other dietary patterns still not being intellectually honest and makes your take on a lot of things (like artificial sweeteners) suspect.

I decided year ago when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I would not eat sugar sweetened foods or drink sugared sodas. As I replacement, I have an artificially sweetened soda whenever I want one. which is often. I am now 80 years old and healthy and not overweight. I was drinking "Tab" when it first came out and read where the artificial sweeteners would give me cancer. I decided to take the risk and drank it anyway. Later I read the test that showed the risk of cancer when used in mice was the human equivalent of 600 cans of soda daily. Every artificial sweetener is said to be really bad for some reason.....but I continue to take the risk and so far, so good. A few more years and maybe can say I am seeing the longevity effect of metformin which has recently been in the news.....that is a side effect I can live with...
In the meantime if I want something sweetened with an artificial sweetener I have it, and do not worry....

Correlation isn’t causation. Layne Norton covered this. People who have had heart attacks have higher levels of erythritol in their blood. The body CREATES erythritol. These people were even consuming anything that had erythritol levels high enough to account for the levels in their blood. It’s present in people who have had heart attacks because the body produces it.

Another fine example of people doing a fine job of misinterpreting data.

Does Stevia have the same problem? I use it in my coffee once a day. The box says no added erythritol. The Stevia is called Stevia in the Raw and I was happy to see that they had eliminated the erythritol. I use two packets a day with my either 1 or two cups of coffee a day. I also use Light Blue Agave, two teaspoons in coffee or tea. I do not use sugar because it is processed with hooves of horses and other animals. I do not eat things that live animals were murdered to produce.

I am going to cut out any vegan and vegetarian frozen meals because they are so filled with salt and I think salt should be a flavor enhancer not taste like its the main ingredient. Cream of Salt Soup anyone? I will get my protein from a can of beans. Going to buy a rice/slow cooker and order regular vegetables and make my own soups and stews. A little bit more time consuming but healthier.
