Your dystopian fears of gambling entities polluting sports seems very realistic
ОтветитьI don’t think it’s a good development. It’s one step from tobacco and alcohol sponsorship, both of which I’ve seen in my lifetime.
If people want to do gamble, or smoke, or drink, it should be their choice and not-so-easily-encouraged by advertising.
But if it’s here… then I expect Pete Rose to have his ban overturned—and to go into the Hall of Fame. Sooner rather than later— or never. (At least that gives you a chance for a video exploring Rose’s chances now.
Day to day the gambling takeover of sports is annoying, but give it a little thought and it tells you how the leagues really see their fans.
Legal and regulated is better than illegal and unregulated, but I still think it’s a net negative for sports.
MLB is slowly going bye bye,
ОтветитьYet Pete Rose and Joe Jackson remain banned from the HOF.
ОтветитьFanDuel and DraftKings should both be banned; those apps are objectively evil, and the MLB is evil for associating with them.
ОтветитьThe NFL is a TV show pretending to be a sport. Now baseball will be just another thing to bet on.
ОтветитьMoney has ruined baseball and this is just another step. I stopped watching football years ago because the refs can easily control the outcome. I fear it's not long before gambling can do the same, which is what they blackballed Pete Rose for. With lopsided team quality and a severe money influence, baseball is about to lose this guy who's followed for over 60 years.
ОтветитьEven if this never effects the sanctity of the game itself, the fact that gambling is so readily available and is being openly shoved in the face of fans is disgusting. Like you said, 1% of fans is a huge number of people. How many kids are gonna get addicted, how many lives ruined, hell how many future players are going to reach the pros with gambling addictions they got from WATCHING the very leagues that will ban them for gambling while playing? The very purpose of these ads is to make people bet on sports, so taken to its logical outcome the goal means more players down the line who have bet on sports, which is guaranteed to include addicts who will include those who bet on their own sports.
If everything goes PERFECTLY well, then the well is poisoned. If this marketing is effective at all it will screw over the next generation of fans and players. And even if not a single player bets, this is still expanding an addiction. People are not seeking out gambling, gambling is seeking them out, in many cases before their brains are even finished developing. It is disgusting, the audience is the product, not the other way around
The only thing I really hate about modern sports is the surge of gambling adds and how online sports betting seems to be intertwining itself more and more with sports leagues
Ответитьgambling is ruining sports
ОтветитьFubo is charging a 15 dollar rsn fee. The RSN included is fan duel. They are essentially charging me to show me their advertisement. Every day i get closer to getting done with sports.
Ответитьwow
ОтветитьIt going to lead to some players betting on their own game and tanking the results. At this point, they should induct Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame
ОтветитьROB MANFRED: We need to make sure enough kids are watching baseball games that are being played so we can continue the growth of our great sport and show them all the fantastic parts of the game we loved as kids and now as adults!
also ROB MANFRED: We have a deal with the US military to make sure that our great service branches are being featured in commercials, especially in the postseason. Go US military! You kids should DEFINITELY sign up! Oh, and keep watching baseball!
also ROB MANFRED: hey kids - watch all these fighter jets fly over our ballpark before these big games. Doesn't that make you want to get into the military?
also ROB MANFRED: We definitely want to continue the growth of our game with Gen X and Y by making sure our targeted advertising of investment opportunities, boner pills, and betting apps are front and center during EVERY commercial break from the start of the game at 8pm until the last pitch after midnight!
also ROB MANFRED: let's start games late. Maybe kids will still be up...eh...who knows? Are these kids betting yet? When can they start betting? They must be getting on these apps and doing bets by the time they're 12, right?
Rob Manfred is a skid mark.
Online sports gambling and gambling to me are the same thing.
Just like alcohol, tobacco, pron and gambling, these can be very bad to people with addiction behavior and I strongly agree that gambling should have a warning label about gambling addiction. Because “The House, Always Wins”
Gambling needs to go away or just be more hidden away kids shouldn't be seeing it
ОтветитьIf it smells like a Rose …………..
ОтветитьI agree sports betting has lowkey ruined sports. I have recently been partaking in such activities, but I then find myself rooting for the other team in one way or another. Just a weird dynamic that I can live without to be real.
ОтветитьPerhaps “Bally” kept the Atlanta Braves because they think the Bible Belt fans aren’t going to be about this
ОтветитьMLB and all other professional sports should absolutely nothing to do with any gambling. This makes games questionable. And really it is not about making the experience better for the fans. It is all about $$$$$$.
ОтветитьBrody,
With all this sports betting, you think we could see some scandals like the Black Sox of 1919 or point shaving like Boston College in 78-79?
I'm all for responsible gambling, but I don't need to see it on my TV every time I watch a game. If they had a separate broadcast for the game built around gambling I'd be all for that.
ОтветитьI was fairly ambivalent towards sports gambling at first, but honestly if they keep cramming it down my throat with advertisements that I can't even take in the state of California, they'll never see a dime from me again.
ОтветитьMLB can also possibly return to NBC or CBS on their new tv deal and I all for it 💯.
ОтветитьTLDR: This is corrupting the game and makes me feel like leaving
The question for me is "What am I supporting?" with my attention, with my allegiance, my love, and loyalty? Of course gambling has always been present in pro sports, but now it's becoming something inseparable from the teams, players, games and seasons. Considering how easy it's getting for any one of the many vested interests to influence the play and outcomes on the field, this is becoming something hard for me to support personally. Cigarette and alcohol advertising had no reason to change outcomes but gambling most certainly does. The granular level of betting that's now possible is enabling more and more entry points for corruption, and for me, confronting that pitch by pitch is just not fun, and is bringing pro sports into a territory that's less worthy of people, like me, who just want to watch their teams play in fair games.
They say the house always wins and this is just another way for big business to take from your pocket. The rich get richer and the poorer. “hey the American dream is still alive. I’ll be a millionaire someday. As soon as this parlay hits.”
ОтветитьSomewhere Pete Rose is laughing at all this. RIP Pete. You were, and still are the best all-around player in the game.
ОтветитьThe direction is titally changed than what it used to be
Stadium attendance doesn't matter with the trends of reducing the seats of the stadiums and putting luxury suites so they can get more with less attendances
TV Networks and the introduction of sports betting gonna make stadium attendance less and less important
All of this online betting is fueled by one thing: MONEY. The leagues don’t care if they are getting paid. It’ll be sad when a betting scandal breaks out again. The leagues will have no one to blame but themselves for promoting it everywhere players look.
ОтветитьI used to watch hockey all the time, then stopped during the lockdown and didn't go back.
Watched Hockey Night in Canada recently when visiting my dad, and I couldn't believe how much gambling had taken over the broadcast -- the number of advertisements and even the coverage in the intermissions.
I am finally DONE with baseball
Ответитьfan duel isnt an mlb company. gambling companies dont change leagues
Ответитьpeople that bet on games dont affect the fuckin outcome.
ОтветитьPrediction: the next generation of stadiums & arenas will have entire sections serving as lounge areas for fan duels & other betting companies. Fans will be able to bet on any game, inning, period, pitch, etc.
ОтветитьIt's not just baseball. It's every sport. Between these apps and the digital economy at the stadiums, who knows how much revenue is truly generated and how much cash is laundered through the physical structures, parking and stadiums, and these betting platforms. Gambling is a dirty business. When Kennesaw Landis tossed the ballplayers who were in bed with the gamblers out of the game he also ordered that all the betting parlors that were in each park be shut down as well. Most were under the bleachers or in some other dark corner but every stadium had em. Now here we are 100 years later and the gamblers are back with a vengeance.
Myer Lansky said it would happen, that the government would take the lead but eventually the whole industry would be taken from them because there was just too much money in it to keep it in the back alleys. Then the government did just that, taking the numbers racket from them and renaming it the lottery. Then the push came to make it legal everywhere and now everyone is totes-cool with gambling in their state because they buy the big lie that the tax revenue will go toward education.
What a bunch of bullshit. I used to make bets with bookies. It was nickel and dime stuff but I was a city kid and we all knew where to go to lay a bet. But not everyone treats it as nickel and dime stuff. Gambling wreaks lives in a way even more devastating than alcohol. Hypocrites. Okay, fine. Let Shoeless Joe and Pete into the Hall then. The whole thing is dirty because as I say gambling makes everything it touches dirty. I'm not a puritan, just a guy whose been around long enough to know better.
Shannon at THG has addressed at length about all of the crawlers and distracting bets in hockey (Will Sidney Crosby get a goal tonight? Here's the current line! Place your wager now!)...MLB is allowing the cybercasinos to turn Baseball into another, über boring jai alai. Every spit of chaw from a pitcher has a sponsor now. MLB is the Betelgeuse of pro sports, about to collapse in on itself and go supernova, with billions in fake revenues, exospheric salaries, and huge debts blown into the ether. Fans are running, and the in-season TV numbers show it - thus the RSN retrenchment. MLB's sole focus on money and neglect at developing talent assures that in the near future they will have neither. The owners are crowing about, and bathing in, a lot of Japanese money that will fade post-Ohtani. Meanwhile, eight franchises are about to go gangrene...And I swear that gambling has its tentacles into this mess with the Orphan A's. I still think MLB is using John Fisher and his malignant ego to see if they can put gambling consoles in the backs of seats within a pro sports facility. Fishwrap is being used as a test pigeon. That's the only way any of that idiocy makes any sense...
ОтветитьGreat! Just another distraction popping up on the screen while we're trying to just watch a baseball game. I wish some network would just show the game. Then again, the Oakland A's are gone so I won't be watching any games anyway.
ОтветитьBrodie you should look into the NBA’s Tim Donaghy scandal. These leagues are playing with fire with how much they’re embracing gambling.
ОтветитьIf you must have gambling -- fine but I would really prefer if it wasn't so shoved it our faces. Its disgusting and in poor taste in my opinion
ОтветитьEven after a slight uptick in ratings in 2024 baseball viewer is a pale shadow of what it used to be. It's not a shock that MLB is partnering with a gambling app in an attempt to tap into a more youthful market.
ОтветитьFor me MLB continues to be a great pleasure every season despite the rule changes, greed and banality that goes along with any colossal enterprise. The rhythm and flow of the long season, following the standings, the rare combination of stimulation and relaxation of this gem of a game are all truly unique in the modern world. Personally I think monetary gambling on anything is an idiotic and dangerous trap of the mind.
ОтветитьUm, Bally is also a gambling / gaming company. They have their name on xasinos and on slot machines.
And i thought that MLB was taking over all of the broadcast deals except for.the Braves?
Like tobacco smoking and X-rated content, I think gambling (including on sports) should be legal. However, just like the aforementioned vices, I don't want my media saturated in references to it. I also have grave concerns about gambling addictions. I know my personality makes me prone to addiction, which is why I've taken a "not even once" approach to organized gambling in my own life. For these reasons, I am terribly unhappy with all the gambling references in sports broadcasts and media in general and my favorite baseball team being on a FanDuel-branded channel starting next year in particular.
ОтветитьI gave up on gambling kind of lost interest. NFL I think is somewhat fixed. The Rams FG last year at the last second that mean nothing was prime example. I am sure someone on the team made a lot of money by covering.
ОтветитьGood
Gamble MORE ‼️🥃🔥🤣🇺🇸✅
Sorry, junior. We lost your college fund because the Blue Jays couldn't beat the Royals on a Tuesday night
ОтветитьITS SO OBVIOUS ……GOING TO RUIN THE GAME….SO MANY GAMES ARE RIGGED NOW….NBA IS SO RIGGED ITS ALMOST GETTING LIKE WRESTLING WAS…THE OUTCOME IS ALREADY KNOW BEFORE IT EVEN STARTS
ОтветитьThe recent influx of sports gambling into sports has been annoying. Even Shaq is schilling for sports books these days. As someone who has gone to 40-50 MLB games per year in the past, nothing will drive me away from sports more quickly than seeing these gambling ads all the time.. 🤮
Ответить
