Which is the Best Air Fryer? Non-toxic, affordable, & family-friendly models

When you shake your air fryer how much does that grill insert scratch off the toxic coating?
I just want something that's completely non-toxic!

the last two air fryers I've had the coating on the baskets gradually pealed off, so I guess I've been eating paint or what ever it is. that's why I am looking for a safer fryer.

I still don’t really see the use case for these. I just bake with convection with an iron pan in my oven or small toaster style oven

They're all toxic apart from the glass unit (Big Boss). Saved you a few hours of research.

I don't have a huge amount of counter space. It's not that the kitchen is small, just that much of the room is taken up by two refrigerators and a freezer as well as shelves. It also has a large walk-in pantry that all the women who see it love.

I frequently use the kitchen table to prepare food.

What would work best for me, space-wise, would be an air fryer / toaster oven to replace the toaster oven we already have.

However, I'm not convinced that I need an air fryer. My niece is going to bring me one of hers to try out. I intend to cook several things in it and also in the regular oven and compare results. My intentions to try out are:
1) french fries
2) onion rings
3) tuna patties (similar to salmon patties)
4) chicken fried steak or steak fingers

The reason for number 4 is that my gallbladder was removed last week and that is likely to affect which foods i can tolerate -- limited fatty foods and limited oils and greases. If I can cook the chicken fried steak in the air fryer and so not have to digest the oil it is cooked in, then I might be able to add a moderate amount of cream gravy on top of the chicken fried steak, the mashed potatoes, and the green peas.

If it turns out that losing the gallbladder doesn't affect my diet too badly, maybe cook Polish sausage in it as well.

1 min in I saw two ceramic coated fryers. “CERAMIC NON-STICK COATINGS: Ceramic non-stick coatings are typically made of nanoparticles, which are common but not well studied. However, some titanium dioxide nanoparticles have been linked to precancerous gut lesions as well as immune disruption. This type of ceramic coating is very common in cookware, so we can only assume it also may be inside the air fryer if they don’t answer our inquiries.”

Williams Sonoma does a good job at disclosing the toxic chemicals in products. For the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, it states the following: “This product contains the following chemicals: PTFE, iron, copper, nickel and nickel compounds, chromium compounds, manganese and manganese compounds, phosphorus, silica, crystalline (respirable size), zinc, carbon black (airborne, unbound particles of respirable size).”

I bought a very affordable Gourmia air fryer (model GAF556) which has no smell at all.

The last one is a turbo broiler. I love it. After seeing this video, i think i dont need air fryer anymore.

I bought an Instant Vortex Plus 6 QT with Clearcook air fryer,and the instructions tell you to do an 18 minute test run at 400 degrees before your first cook. I did so,and did not detect any noticeable odors. So far,I am very happy with this air fryer. This model was the favorite of those tested on America's Test Kitchen website.

having tried a number of oven style air fryers, I settled on what I think as the best of the bunch A " Kalorik" does every thing all the other do but better. I omited the Breville, like all breville poducts Good but over priced

I have to question whether the burning plastic smell from a new air frier is due to the nonstick basket. I have used new nonstick frying pans in the past, and they never had a hot plastic smell even when new. I suggest people are being lead away from realizing it is the plastic in the upper part housing the heating coils and the plastic holding the basket to the handle. Look in a full sized oven to see if they used plastic or metal. I bought an instant air frier and love how it works, but after the initial breaking in and related uses it still smells hot plastic chemicals every time I use it. We are lab rats, and future studies will tell the truth.
