I was so excited to watch Barristan kick the ass of a legendary pit fighter, Khrazz, at like age 60. Disappointed it wasn't there.

Barristan's full entry in the White Book/the Book of Brothers:
"Ser Barristan of House Selmy. Firstborn son of Ser Lyonel Selmy of Harvest Hall. Served as squire to Ser Manfred Swann. Named "the Bold" in his 10th year, when he donned borrowed armor to appear as a mystery knight in the tourney of Blackhaven, where he was defeated and unmasked by Duncan, Prince of Dragonflies. Knighted in his 16th year by King Aegon V Targaryen, after performing great feats of prowess as a mystery knight in the winter tourney at King's Landing, defeating Prince Duncan the small and Ser Duncan the Tall, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. 

Slew Maelys the Monstrous, last of the Blackfyre Pretenders, in single combat during the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Defeated Lormelle Long Lance and Cedrik Storm, the Bastard of Bronzegate. Named to the Kingsguard in his 23rd year, by Lord Commander Ser Gerold Hightower. Defended the passage against all challengers in the tourney of the Silver Bridge. Victor in the mêlée at Maidenpool. Rescued Lady Jeyne Swann and her septa from the Kingswood Brotherhood, defeating Simon Toyne and the Smiling Knight, slaying the former. In the Oldtown tourney, defeated and unmasked the mystery knight, Blackshield revealing him to be the Bastard of Uplands. Sole champion of Lord Steffon's tourney at Storm's End, whereat he unhorsed Lord Robert Baratheon, Prince Oberyn Martell, Lord Leyton Hightower, Lord Jon Connington, Lord Jason Mallister, and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. 

Wounded by arrow, spear, and sword at the Battle of the Trident whilst fighting beside his Sworn Brothers and Rhaegar Prince of Dragonstone. Pardoned, and named Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, by King Robert I Baratheon. Served in the honor guard that brought Lady Cersei of House Lannister to King's Landing to wed King Robert. Led the attack on Old Wyk during Balon Greyjoy's Rebellion. Champion of the tourney at King's Landing, in his 57th year. Dismissed by King Joffrey I baratheon in his 61st year, for reasons of advanced age."

I think Barristan is the best fighter , not Arthur Dayne

What I loved most about him was his voice.

He’s still alive in the books. I hope he at least makes it to the last book.

The hero of the Defiance of Duskendale doesn’t get got in an alley! Barristan the bowled over by d&d’s stupidity more like!

Not only was his death too soon and inconsequential, but it was just weirdly written. He gets a vague order to do ......something from Daenerys, than wanders out into the streets of a huge city, than stumbles on a fight in the streets with the unsullied, kills a few sons of herpes, than dies.

Such a shame with the show. They should have added a scene mentioned in the book where he rolls out of kings landing despite the gold cloaks trying to stop him at least.

While the masses fled he ran towards the threat. A true Knight!

If he wanted, he could carve D&D like a cake.

I honestly think that if his character hadn’t been killed off and he had lived he would’ve changed Daenarys story completely
He was one of the only if not the last man to know both the good and the bad of the Targaryens he saw Aerys Madness yet Rhaegars kindness
He understood both sides of history and was a devout man of honor the actor that portrayed him said he was thrilled to play him believing this would be a long journey and then he was just killed off
He is still alive in the books I believe and I hope he makes it till the end he’s a name in my book of some of my favorite underrated characters from the show

The tragedy is despite being one of the greatest warriors, he failed almost the people he vowed to protect.

Another character done dirty by D&D

His death in the show is an insult to well written character in the books and even more it is an insult to the great actor Ian McElhinney.

When I think of Ser Barristan Selmy, one word comes into my mind: chivalry

Died in an Ally like the gangster he was

If he’d had his armor on he’d have carved through every harpy in the city like cake.

Among the many things the TV show did dirty at the end, Barristan of the books was this legendary fighter.

Yeah he was old, but he was still relatively fast, in good shape. Whereas LotR gave Boromir a field of jacked orcs in a field before arrows brought him down... what, 7 untrained, unarmored, dagger-wielding assassins with knives were too much for Barristan in a hallway? Please. A Queensguard without his armor, when the city is awash with murder, especially of Dany's soldiers? Come on. Its just so contrived. Weak. There are plenty of ways to write in a guy like Barristan dying. This was not it.

He could cut through the five dudes like he was carving a cake but some clown ass Harpys slew him? Nah.

Is a life of Honor, Justice, and Faith, really better than a life of Courage, Kindness, and Discipline?

This is what makes Varristan a tragic hero in a sense he is a good man who did honorable and glorious things in the service of men unworthy of his service.He saved Aerys II in a suicide mission fought at the trident and garnered so much respect that Robert the main rebel himself sent his own personal maester to aid and heal Barristan. Selmy in the books is a man haunted by thebfailures of his past unable to truly live in peace of his life because hes looking for one more deed to atone the failures in not saving those he swore to protect

The show did so much injustice to his character, we never saw his prowess, only heard that he was the one of the best swordsman alive, and yet he died fighting nameless thugs 🤦‍♂️

Bro was willing to die to fulfill his duty than retire. One of the best in GoT

It’s a joke how Daenerys never equipped her “Queensguard” with any heavy armor.
