This should be good.. I'm 57 but I was a history major and went to law school... I hate communism!!!!! The thing is that Hitler was a nut bag and also evil. Stalin was a monster. The thing is that is that in Hitler's book, Mein Kempf, he hated communism more than Jews. Joseph Goebbels who was the Nazi propaganda Minister was the one that was the most anti-Semitic.. Himmler was also & he was head of the SS and later on to go over the Gestapo because originally Hermann Goering was the governor of Prussia, head of luftwaffe & also head of Gestapo. That lasted probably up until about 1938 and sometime in the late 1930s Hitler's henchmen were always in competition with one another, and Hitler ended up giving the Gestapo management over to Himmler. Hitler was a coward but he was an evil bastard and that's what made the Gestapo even worse.. Goering was awful but he was more extravagant in a World War 1 pilot. He loved nice things and when the Nazis were taking Jewish property, it was Goering who hoarded the best and the most expensive works of art they took from the Jews... Even when the Nazis went into Italy when Italy surrendered to the allies and switched sides in 1943, Hitler sent the Germans into Italy to disarm the Italians as much as possible and prevent the Allies from completely invading Europe by going all the way up through Northern Italy.. during the time the Nazis were in Italy, the Nazis took a lot of artwork going back to the Renaissance. It's taking years and years but over time pieces of artwork keep popping up.. I'm a big fan of Michelangelo caravaggio's work, and just here in the past couple years they've been finding several of his works . One piece of work was almost sold for $150 and it was worth millions.. thankfully, is somebody quickly realized this piece of art was the real deal and the original before the final sale..whew!
Hitler always had plans to invade the Soviet Union & it was just a matter of when. The non-aggression pact was to keep the Soviets busy while the Nazis took Belgium France the Netherlands and the blitz in Great Britain. Essentially what occurred is the Operation Barbarossa was supposed to start in April 1941. However, Italy had invaded Greece and they were screwed up in the mountains.. therefore, the Germans had to go help the Italians, and that put the Germans 2 months behind beginning Operation Barbarossa so they weren't actually able to start until June 22nd 1941.
Nick is right and the people were so much better off under Czarist Russia then they were the Communists.. Nicholas II was a weak czar, but his dad had been a good czar. Nicholas II just was not cut out for it and at the same time he was also trying to hide the fact that his only male heir had hemophilia.
Eventually the Soviet Union would have invaded the Germans certainly but it probably would have been 1943-1944. Just like Nicholas was saying, the Great Purge in the Soviet Union started in 1936 and that went on through 1938 in which Stalin was so paranoid and he did not want his military officers to become so strong they would overtake him.. he was paranoid & always paranoid and Hitler was but not until much later after Heydrich was assassinated.
Of course and Joseph Stalin was going to be paranoid all along really because during World War I the Russian military mutinied because tsar Nicholas II took over command of the army and they didn't have enough weapons food or anything. It was so easy for the Bolsheviks to get the military to turn on the tsar.. because of that Stalin was always paranoid!!! The only thing that changed between the two countries is that Germany was in a much better position to invade and actually defeat the Soviet Union in 1941. Germany invaded first but Hitler believed and actually said "all we have to do is kick the door open and the whole rotten structure will crumble down".. in some ways he was right but that didn't mean that the people in the Soviet Union were bad because they were starved and terribly oppressed.. those that lived in big cities like Leningrad & Moscow we're better off financially than those that lived in the rural parts of the Soviet Union. However, they were still all severely persecuted.
Because of the propaganda minister in Germany & the fact that Germany has been through hell after World War I and such awful unemployment of 50% and and terrible inflation in the 1920s and then the US Great Depression made it worse, the German people were desperate and that's the only reason the Nazis were even able to start gaining power in the first place.
Germany invaded the city Union in June and they weren't counting on having to fight a really long war and they thought they would be done within 4 months.. WRONG!! IT WAS RAINING IN OCTOBER AND TANKS AND EQUIPMENT AND TROOPS WERE UP TO THEIR KNEES IN MUD.
The thing is that if left to fight it out amongst themselves inevitably 180 million or Soviets would have starved because the Germans were destroying their crops and stealing their food.. all of the Soviets for the most part would have ended up starving to death except maybe the ones living out in the Far East if they didn't all hunt and kill the wildlife at the same time trying to survive.. they would have obliterated and killed millions of one another in the process but Nazi Germany kill the round 3 million Soviet troops in 12 weeks & within 6 months after the invasion somewhere around 5 million civilians and Soviet soldiers were killed... The thing is that even wants a Soviet Union started fighting back against the Germans and started getting their crap together a little bit by late July and August 1941, the Germans were surprised the Soviets were able to get their crap together..BUT WHAT HELPED THE SOVIET UNION WAS LEND LEASE FROM THE USA THAT STARTED IN SEPTEMBER 1941... THE USA PRETTY MUCH FED THE ENTIRE SOVIET UNION FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS.. THAT'S NO UNDERSTATEMENT AND GAVE THEM AROUND 300,000 PLUS GREAT BIG TRUCKS TO TRANSPORT SUPPLIES, SOLDIERS, FOOD, ETC . The Germans had some trucks but nothing like American trucks. The Americans even sent extra planes and Sherman tanks even though the Soviets had the t34. The t-34 was a solid big tank but a lot of the Soviet troops like the Sherman because it was more agile and was more comfortable and had much better visibility.. they were able to take those smaller tanks through the woods which was something the t-34s were not capable of doing.
USA sent all kinds of weapons to the Soviet Union, boots uniforms blankets etcetera etcetera, howitzers so after the Soviet Union started getting supplies in from the USA around the winter of 1942 (shipping took several months) that's when the Soviets started whipping German ass. By the time the Germans invaded Stalingrad in August of 1942 it was the stupidest thing that could have ever done.. Hitler wanted to do it because the city had Stalin's name on it.. the thing is he was not thinking about how it can get money again in October and he certainly was not thinking about how cold it was going to be in November. That was a nasty bottle that lasted six months.
However, after Stalingrad was over in February 1942, with the USA sending massive supplies and everything to the Soviet Union, along with Stalin calling for the Soviet troops in eastern Russia to come West during the winter of 1941 & 1942, once Stalingrad was over the Soviets whipped German ass all the way back to Germany.. the USA and Britain told the Soviet Union that they would take care of bombing in Europe to prevent the Germans from making more tanks and planes to send East etcetera etcetera.
Give me some really nasty with the fighting in the East and the cold weather made it even nastier. Even after D-Day, what a lot of people don't know is the first 85 days after that invasion it was pure hell. The Allies had to fight for every yard of territory they took because the Germans were so desperate and did not want them to get to Germany but it was inevitable... In the end Stalin really screwed over the west and especially the USA.. essentially they used the United States for their survival. Stalin was a monster. Hitler was crazy and he was a monster but picked on a bigger monster than himself..
That's why the weird thing is today Putin doesn't trust the West, but the USA doesn't really trust Russia and it all goes back to what Stalin did after World War II.. he totally lied to us and Churchill..

In the USA I know the Democrats temporarily restricted semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15s for so many years. Why are you guys are talking about communism I will say that after World War II Yugoslavia became communist.. their leader, Toto, was very popular.. according to what I learned in history when I was working on my history degree many many years ago, Yugoslavia was a much better communist ran country than the Soviet Union ,communist China, Cuba, & North Korea etc.
You know the Holocaust killed probably 12 million or 15 million Jews Slavic, disabled people communist etcetera etcetera.. it may have even been up to 20 million but Joseph Stalin killed and starved around 50 million and Mao around 48 million with the Great leap Forward and God knows how many with the cultural revolution in the 1960s. 60 or 70 million.
