We got another round of info hitting the web pertaining to the legacy IP that Sega is in the process of reviving. Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Set Radio all got one new screen shot and a little blurb, so nothing major there. The big news is Sega's business plan in regard to the legacy IP and how they plan to utilize it going forward.

The plan, as laid out, is to continue to use the pillars of Sonic, Like a Dragon, and Persona to drive revenue. Build licensing deals and long lasting revenue streams with those proven franchises. While that is happening, Sega plans to go through their past IP and find candidates to bring back and possibly grow into more pillars of the company. The revenue and profits that Sonic, Like a Dragon, and Persona are bringing into Sega are allowing them to experiment, to find new pillars of revenue for the company. Legacy IP are key to Sega going forward, and are a part of the three year and five year plans. So expect to see more legacy work in the coming years.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me!

Oh - Phantasy Star Online is also considered a pillar for Sega... :Thinking Face Emoji Here:

Glad someone took the time looking at the meeting presentation and not focusing on sonic only. As for the logos they interchangeable, sometimes they use the current game logo and sometimes they use the overall game logo. PS5 is used as its the most successful title at the moment and PSO2 is the same NG is a sidegame not the main game/replacement like PS5. And NG isnt a flop either from my understanding. The point is of course Its to encourage shareholders to invest more money into the company.

Part of the reason SEGA japan is bringing back these IPs is because of two things that happened that changed management's view into bringing the games back. SOR 4 becoming a massive hit which SEGA now regrets they didn't publish themselves and what happened after Sonic 1's success at the movies. After Sonic 1 was a hit, Hollywood came to SEGA wanting the rights to their games but what took SEGA back was that the producers was more interested in older SEGA titles than the new ones. The one that surprised them the most was Comix Zone. Initially SC5 and Comix Zone got optioned, then Like A Dragon and then SOR. Combined that with the digital sales of SOR4 reaching 4 million now, they saw the potential of the older games viable in the market and viable for licensing for a movie. They hoping the new updates will sell big and promote future licensing options which that report indicates. SEGA trying to sell persona to hollywood but last i heard no takers as yet. With Like A Dragon that seems to be filming and they want to see if they can exploit what happened with the recent Godzilla film as a model for their movie into being successful in the U.S. box office. The SOR Revolution game is to tie in with the SOR film which is why its in 3D. Its quite an ambitious plan because usually its only SEGA toys that gets the trans media/mix media push with key projects designed to make a lot of money quickly but now they doing it for several of these games if they can secure the deals.

It's great to see Sega going back to some of its legacy IPs and realising that "hey, we could make money from this". I'm interested in all the announced legacy games so far, but the possibility of another PSO or even a remake of PSO is really exciting. As much as I actually like New Genesis, Sega had something very special with the original PSO and I'd love them to do more with it.
