She is soooo delightful. I hope she’s able to be more episodes.
Ответить“Consent doesn’t ruin the moment, it actually makes it better.” This! Any time this channel has covered a scene where consent is explicitly asked for, my heart grows. We need more of that.
ОтветитьIf you do another one this year you should do The Christmas Setup.
Ответить"Last Christmas" the research exists. There have been cases of organ donees taking on traits from organ donors. When you know that, the film is fun, because you can see the inspiration behind the writing.
ОтветитьWhyin God‘s name did she have her bra on after having slept with him? Ridiculous
ОтветитьI hated the Happiest Season so much. I was surprised they regarded it so highly. Harper treats Abby so badly. Her not coming out to her family was fine I don’t judge her for it but bringing Abby to her house without preparing her for what she was going to encounter was insane. I do like what happens with Harper’s family finally talking about how dysfunctional they are. It’s just I personally don’t forgive Harper for her behavior enough where I was happy they stayed together.
Ответитьlol the alien being born sound
ОтветитьCould you comment on "happiness for beginners"? I'd like to know your thoughts about it
ОтветитьI LOVED Jack Black an Kate Winslet's relationship inn The Holiday! SO CUUUUTE! SO glad they made top spot! WOO!
ОтветитьWhite Christmas is one of my favorite movies, but it always drove me nuts that Betty never communicated to Bob what she thought he was planning with the General and how she felt about it. She just gave him the cold shoulder and left. Betty knew Bob well enough at that point to not think that the nosy Emma was mistaken about what she heard on Bob’s phone call. She could have asked Bob for clarification. 🤷🏻♀️
Ответитьi never realized my type of guy was Jack Black until I watched Jack Black in The Holiday
ОтветитьI want them to do elf lol
ОтветитьA Christmas Story would be awesome to see you guys react to it!! I've talked to actors from the movie and it's tradition to watch it every year.
ОтветитьInteresting Story. Miss Mojo released a video recently about the top twenty Netflix original Christmas movies. As soon as it got to the top five I was writing notes like what the hell? Eye candy? And seriously that over that? So I thought Klaus would of been number one... nope... It was a Christmas Prince. Klaus was number two. Why??? Also, I think based on this video CP should not have been number one. Thats just me though.
ОтветитьIn The Holiday, both Arthur and Miles had mended Iris's broken heart. Arthur had given her advice that she claimed was better than any advice that she had gotten from a therapist, and she and Miles were actually forming a friendship, dating, and having fun, and it wasn't about him trying to "heal" her, by getting her into bed. Iris had also helped heal Miles, when he was having relationship issues. And Graham was also a bit broken, by admitting to Amanda when she'd met his daughters that he was a widower. He opened up to her by telling her how difficult it was to date and be a single father. On their first date, she had opened up to him, by discussing her parents' divorce. Plus, when they had first met, she was able to open up to him about her breakup. And when he said that he loved her for the first time, he was being vulnerable, especially when he said that despite living on opposite continents, he was willing to make things work. Some of the best scenes were at the end of the movie, when Amanda cried in the cab, especially since she hadn't cried since her parents' divorce, realized that she missed Graham, then she returned to him, and then he started to cry. So, their relationship wasn't just sexual; it was special.
Oh, and by the way, when Graham had first met Amanda, he wasn't expecting her to be at his house, he was expecting his sister, Iris, who usually put him up for the night, when he was drunk. And Miles wasn't expecting Iris to be at Amanda's house, either. He was dropping off some music for her ex, Ethan.
I think what the filmmakers were going for with Amanda and Graham is that Graham wasn't too drunk to make decisions, and he was already promiscuous, so Amanda wasn't really taking advantage of him. His kissing her first just emphasizes that.
ОтветитьIt's a crime you put the holiday in there with these goofy ass movies. You completely dismiss the fact that Graham and Amanda completely and honestly spoke about the expectations of this encounter. He kissed her first whilst not asking btw. People can have sex drunk ya know.
ОтветитьI also love The Holiday for some reason, even though I typically hate holiday movies (and music, love the holidays themselves though). I will say I think its a little unfair to only criticize Cameron Diaz's character in her relationship. Yes, she should not have sleep with a drunk man. Not going to defend that at all. However, I don't agree that she takes advantage of a lonely man. He is apparently a bit of a womanizer (when his kids are with their grandparents) based on what Iris says during a phone call later in the movie. She takes interest in his life and his children when she learned about the, Also, Amanda is being a realist about their relationship. They live on different continents and neither seem to be willing/able to move. In fact, the movie does nothing to solve this. I realized this watching it just the other day. The movie ends all happy with all of them together for New Years but none of them, including Iris and Miles, have been showing figuring out their long-distance relationships.
Ответить@CinemaTherapyShow, Emilia Clarke had a similar experience to the heart transplant described in last Christmas. While not a transplant, she had a severe brain aneurysm at one point, and had to have brain surgery, resulting in sections of her brain missing.
ОтветитьI love The Holiday. My Christmas movie! 💜
ОтветитьHe doesn't like The Holiday??! How?!
ОтветитьSo are we just as a group ignoring the fact that Amanda had been drinking as well? Graham wasnt blacked out drunk and he said himself he kisses strangers all of the time so i have a feeling drunk hook ups are a regular thing for him. Im sorry but i think if this exact same scene played out with the genders reversed it wouldn't be a huge deal.
Here's an example, Crazy Stupid Love. Emma Stone's character is clearly drunk when she's at Ryan Goslings place. And even though they dont have sex, its not from lack of at least starting to. Shes just a talker and they get caught up in conversation. But she's clearly intoxicated, but not blacked out, and upset because she just broke up with her boyfriend, but i don't see any hate for Ryan's character taking her back to his place.
A possible healthy Christmas romance I'd like you to rank: Check Inn to Christmas.
ОтветитьThe holiday makes me sad the jack black and Kate winslet weren’t the main story and that he didn’t make more rom coms. Their story was so much more interesting and better then Cameron Diaz and jud laws.
ОтветитьFully agree with Alan, the crappy Netflix Christmas movies know exactly what they are and I LOVE it. they're cheesy and dumb and predictable and hilarious and I love it.
ОтветитьI finally have a list of other couples to review:
Peter and Nick: single all the way
Josh and Abby: the holiday calendar
Josh and Natalie: love hard
And meet me next christmas couples
Dude, we off the cuff reference Spotlight now? Damn <3
ОтветитьI thank you profusely, Shona, for defending The Holiday. 😂💛
ОтветитьThe holiday is the best christmas movie of all! ❤ ugh
So good all the way thru. Great soundtrack as well!
Keep a Christmas Prince and the Holiday's good names out of this!!!
ОтветитьGoing to watch a fiancee for Christmas just for that adorable cat ❤❤❤
ОтветитьLove that you included White Christmas, but it would have been great to have seen a couple of other classic Christmas movies with a strong romance storyline! These are my bread and butter, haha. Remember the Night, Christmas in Connecticut, It Happened on 5th Ave., The Shop Around the Corner, The Bishop's Wife, It's a Wonderful Life, Holiday Affair, etc. In case you ever want to do a Part 2 :)
ОтветитьLaugh all you want, but The Holiday is one of my favorite movies.
Ответитьwhere can i watch "fiance for christmas"
Ответитьthat was the least accidental boob graze (shona is the doer not the recipient)
ОтветитьUgh, happiest season is one of the worst movies ive ever seen, everyone is so toxic and horrible. I didnt root for a single person.
ОтветитьI’ve watched White Christmas…it must be 30 times. Nearly every year for Xmas, but it’s been a while. Might pick it up again.
ОтветитьThis was a cute episode but I disagree with at least half of the couples. Bing and Rosemary had zero chemistry and were stiff as boards (yet it is one of my favorites). Ditto Kate and Jack. I would have preferred they didn’t shoehorn them into a couple with no chemistry. She had better chemistry with Eli Wallach!
ОтветитьLaughed a little too are at the 'Gizelle!' Edit!' 😂😂
ОтветитьMy favorite relationship in this movie is between Iris and Arthur. It's the warmest, sweetest, most genuine relationship in the movie. Especially when Arthur tells Iris that she is leading lady material but is acting like the best friend. Now, that's what a good friend does; tells you what you need to hear about yourself, not what you want to hear.
ОтветитьThe Holiday is probably my favorite Christmas romcom, and while I agree with everything you said about Iris/Miles, I don’t think you were entirely fair to Amanda/Graham, especially regarding that first night - you seem to be completely forgetting that Amanda is about 36 hours out of a years-long relationship where her live-in boyfriend had an affair with his receptionist and blamed her for his infidelity, and she’s 6 hours off the plane and has already downed at least one bottle of wine in the last three hours or so. Also, Graham says he’s not that drunk, and if they made it to bed, then he made it up that staircase, which frankly looks downright hazardous.
(The thing about the relative male v female “taking advantage of a drunk person” issue is that a high enough BAC will stop a woman from resisting, but it will stop a man from becoming erect enough to facilitate the act, so it’s really not the same, and the film obliquely addresses that point when Amanda gets severely intoxicated the very next night, and Graham doesn’t take advantage of her.)
The two relationships are healing for the people involved, but the two couples need two different kinds of healing. Iris and Miles need to be seen and valued, because they’ve both been pouring into narcissists and getting nothing back. Their healing process makes for sweeter scenes, but Amanda and Graham are both emotionally blocked, and need to be broken open, which is what happens. It looks crazier, because crazy is what they both need. It doesn’t only work because they’re pretty (although they are, let’s be honest), it works because it’s true for some people. I love this film for juxtaposing these two very different romances and honoring both of them.
When reviewing The Holiday, everyone forgets the relationship between Kate Winslet and Eli Wallach. It’s a platonic friendship between a young woman and a much older man, but it’s my favorite relationship in the whole movie. They help raise each other out of their respective funks, and it is done beautifully.
ОтветитьDo the Family Stone - it's also great for family therapy discussion and there are 5 interesting romances to talk about !
ОтветитьI love the Holiday!!- although I agree with all the criticisms of Cameron Diaz and Jude Law’s characters romance— ylech. I always watch it for Christmas when I can. I love Kate Winslet so much.
I’d love your opinions on another Christmas favorite of mine, “While You Were Sleeping” 😅 is it limerance?? 😂
A Season For Miracles (1999 film) is the best Hallmark movie ever made. I love it!
