It really doesnt matter. The story of AT and T is this like many companies. During world war 2 tax payers gave the government money which then turned into equipment. the equipment was then privatized and turned into company. the company was called at and t. AT and T was then broken up by the very same government that built it. The equipment is still US. In fact our entire utilities despite what they want you to believe was funded by the US. Whats hilarious is that the taxpayer during the 1940 paid for most of the technology we use today and now we are paying for it through a private company. that's history of modern US in a nutshell.
