Well stated-as you say so often, history is rarely black and white but various shades of gray. I guess that statement could be applied to the Carter presidency at first glance but then seeing what was really done in a deeper dive. Thanks for the video.

Jimmy Carter was a Good Man in a job that was hard unforgiving and not so good he left with his soul still intact not many presidents can say the same thing may he rest in peace

Third worst president of the last 100 years, after Biden and Obama. Sad to see his passing, but his legacy is dreadful save for his involvement with Habitat. Wrong about everything, criminally weak president, anti-Semite.

Carter was a lousy President -- Not as bad as Biden--I remember when he cancelled the US Team 1980 Olympics in Moscow protesting the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan .. Another weak move by a weak President

A great man! I did not view him negatively, even during his presidency. A man of principles (what a novel concept!), like Joe Biden! I hope & pray that this breed of politician is NOT extinct!
Requiescat in pace! 🙏🙏

He also tried to eradicate the guinea worm. When he first encountered people suffering from it, in 1986, there were around 3.5 million cases in 20 countries. This year there were only 7 recorded cases in 2 countries. His wish was to outlive the disease. The WHO goal is to eradicate it by 2030.

I think it's good you gave a lot of information about the Carter presidency. Hindsight can affect peoples' perceptions in cases like this. However, I think you went out of your way to defend Carter against some deserved criticism. I do recognize he did some good things, like the Camp David Accords. But your presentation didn't seem middle-of-the-road. I think Carter's legacy with his humanitarian work after his presidency shines through much more clearly and with much more consensus. Rest in peace, Jimmy Carter.

I loved this video and the great respect you paid to perhaps the best human being we have ever elected to the White House. He truly was a good person. And also thank you for increasing my gratitude for his life for now knowing he is responsible for me being considered a hipster as fat balding guy of 58 years just cause I love micro-brewed IPAs!!!!

Dear TCW, Best dam Ex-President this country ever had. Demeaned by the Regan political "dirty tricks group", he received blame for the administrations before him, and he was a compromise politician in an ever increasing period of partisan politics. We could have used him now.

Useless trivia. He fought, unsuccessfully, to be listed on the ballot as Jimmy Carter. Instead his full name, James Earl Carter, appeared. He was afraid of being associated with James Earl Ray, the assassin of Dr King.

I think a good subject for The Cold War series would be Jimmy Carter's Naval career. Most tributes just quickly gloss over it to get to his political career.

While I was no fan of his presidency for the most part, I think he was an inherently decent man that did a lot of good in the world over his life. Which may be why his presidency was mostly considered a failure. Inherently decent people are usually not a good fit for politics, unfortunately.

As one wag once said: Carter was eminently qualified to be a great next door neighbor….. but not a President. I lived through the Carter Malaise, he bungled the hostage negotiations.. was told by experts how to handle Iran but Jimmy knew better. Thought he was a good ex-president his humanitarian work was great.!

The common perception is that Carter was a man of the highest principles perhaps too high for retail politics.
Not so. This secular saint axed restrictions on tobacco sales when it interfered with his reelection as governor

His only actual fight against inflation was capping the military's pay for 3 years. This, because I was in the military at that time, resulted in my enlisted members qualifying for food stamps. I wish him very hot headwinds.

From what I've heard about Jimmy Carter, he was too moral and good for the corrupt, undemocratic politics of the United States. It's probably for the best that he was a one term president because it would have been worse for him to become a corrupt politician to stay in office.

Carter is certainly an influential man.. But I tend to agree with historian Rick Pealrstein’s view on Jimmy Carter in that he was more like a conservative then he let on, exemplifies the growing disconnect from elite liberals to the traditional constituent base, and actually was a proponent of austerity. Anyone agree or disagree? Thoughts?

Carter was a victim of Fed policy and economic malaise. It’s part of the economic cycle. I am no fan however. Pulling out of Moscow Olympics was ineffective and foolish. The Olympics is the only international confab that is supposed to to be non political. Ruined the lives of hundreds of American Olympians. His idealism was his downfall.
