I have an interesting story to relate about Maggie Walker's picture.
My sister and I compiled a book about our grandparents who were born in 1866. The families were large, so that accounts for the long gap between generations. We had already collaborated on some other family history projects, but I wanted more input on designing the cover of this new book.

So I searched for people in Virginia who had been born around this time period for inspiration and found that Maggie Walker was born 2 years before my grandparents and there was a very beautiful brochure about her on the NPS website. Maggie's picture is sepia-toned, and the background is a granite-looking color and pattern that coordinates with it perfectly. We didn't use a granite background on our own book cover, but instead a very dark brown background worked better against our grandparents' sepia-colored wedding portrait.

And here is the kicker: Our grandmother's nickname was also Maggie, and that name is on the cover of our book. So what a coincidence!
