Its written from right to left like Semitic languages and each letter represents an action kind of like Hebrew. It is way older than arabic, Hebrew, and all other languages which they borrow from. As someone who speaks Yoruba both Hebrew and arabic borrow from the language. This is also not particular to Yoruba but other west African and Bantu languages
