ОтветитьDon't be too worried Steve, this is something Mel wants. You said she insisted, so she is aware of the possible consequences and it means that much to her. Even if anything eventually happens because of it, this is something she loves to do, and that makes it worth it to her -- riding brings her so much happiness. Even I could see that from what you posted. Thank you for sharing.
ОтветитьInspiring to watch Mel riding! I'm 74 and I'm in awe! Both Mel and Nita are aging with purpose! "When your memories are more exciting than your dreams, you've begun to die." (Dr. Howard G. Hendricks, a longtime professor at Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas).
ОтветитьSuch a wonderful video! Wish I was there too. "Do you hear that train coming?" Sheesh Steve! That would have terrified me because if there really had been one, it would have been very loud! But it WAS funny! You were enjoying yourself and it made my viewing this such a pleasure. Thank you for sharing.
ОтветитьIt's wonderful to see you at work. Nita is still beautiful!
ОтветитьThis came at a time when I am thinking of restarting my mare. She has not been ridden in 5 years, she is nearly 21, she also had an injury to her ligament in her front. She was always an easy horse to ride. I am not going to go crazy just a bit of walking & getting her used to being under saddle again. So thank you. Right timing for me. 🙏😊
ОтветитьI watched the video where you sold Nita to Mel and there was a couple of negative comments about you ‘getting rid’ of Nita. I hope those people who commented watch this video too as it’s so heartwarming.
Nita is happy, Mel is doing amazing - and Nita is still around Steve, Tanya and Charlotte.
The care that goes into these horses is second to none.
Thank you for the update.
Charlotte’s looking good!
Ответитьlove the ensemble Mel, great choices!
ОтветитьThis is GLORIOUS, Neeta has a lovely soul in the body of a Ferrari. (Couldn't help checking out the bikes ay!)
ОтветитьBrilliant!! So nice to see Nita, as well as Mel back on the trail. Also Charlotte and Molly! Looking good, girls!
ОтветитьG’day Steve Tania Charlotte Mel, congratulations absolutely exceptional well done ladies and yes it’s all in the foundation much kudos Steve.
Molly & Nita look absolutely fabulous, so happy for you all!

Great to see Nita 😊 and where did Mel get those boots? Love em.Your so right that Mel has a highly trained animal she’s in control of,one false move could be dangerouse 🌸😊
ОтветитьTalk about men and their wandering eye 😂🤣😂😆
Ответитьhappiness all around.
Ответить😊Mel is such an inspiration! I so could relate when Mel was saying It was such a glorious feeling to be out on a horse again❤ loved seeing Nita❤❤ and Molly 2 champions in my book😊 steve and char have amazing art to developed and condition these 3 to be the best they can be. I miss riding so much😢 I never was the rider Mel is, but tried my self taught best. Oh! If I'd only had a trainer like Steve to give all these amazing videos and tips are you can see the quality of a writer that Shar is have been growing up under his total edge. And now she can eventually do exactly what he has accomplished in horsemanship. Shes got a deep understanding from him...very fortunate to have such a dad❤ Just wanted to say you guys all blessed my socks off! Really enjoyed seeing this🎉
ОтветитьNita is so beautiful and so amazing to see Mel ride again ❤❤❤ I hope I can keep riding until her age! 😮
ОтветитьPlease warn Mel about giving Nita too many treats, alfalfa, or grain. Any horse will get feisty when given more energy than is being expended.
ОтветитьNearly had a tear watching this ❤
ОтветитьMolly still has her sass 😂😂😂
ОтветитьWell done, Mel. Beautiful Nita will take good care of you.
ОтветитьTotally agree about older well trained horses still wanting a "job" ( especially a very mild one) to do, keeps them happy and fit. 😊
ОтветитьSeems to rest the right front leg...did not hear how old this horse is.... I'll have to replay
ОтветитьStirrups too short for milady....
ОтветитьGood luck Mel.
Ответить❤🐴 Beautiful 🐴❤️
ОтветитьI love this video, love the training, all the instructions to humans & horses😂! Charlotte, I always look at your saddle setup, and I noticed that you have the elastic to the inside of your irons, how come?
P.s. love the rule about 10mph!
Btw, all you ladies look fabulous 🥰🥰🥰 and Charlotte, love the bitless!❤️❤️❤️
❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьGreat job Mel, looks like you never stopped riding for any amount of time. I expected the girls to do great too with such a trainer or trainers as Steve and Charlotte.
Ответить❤❤❤
ОтветитьSimply beautiful! I adore the groundwork videos, and they make absolute sense from the perspective of working with natural horse behaviours and social interaction. But riding and providing cues by "remote control" via the bit, hand and leg contact, and most importantly, balance and shift in bodyweight are a much bigger step away from natural horse communication.
I think of my "sausage factory" riding school days, and the contrast could not be more stark! The reins and bit were the steering wheel and the brakes, heels, and crop were the accelerator. The saddle and your balance were only there to prevent you from falling off! Certainly never for communication. Maybe a few levels up I was taught to lean back (as well as using the reins) to come to a halt, and a touch of selective leg squeezing rather than kicking, but that's about as far as I got in scattered weeks of lessons over many years. The poor school horses never had a consistent set of cues one day to another.
One special day many years later I got to ride the pony of a friend who was a fan of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, which I'd only read about until then, and was amazed to be able to start, stop, and ride serpentines on a completely loose rein. I thought of it as "Steering by spine" (or possibly telepathy!) and it was so much easier, intimate, and relaxed all around.
My main takeaway from reading Monty Roberts--and especially the privilege of attending one of his precious clinic/demonstrations--was the significance of the predator-prey relationship. But you've added the critical Lead Mare/Stallion/Herd relationships to the mix. The nearest I got to that before I found you was in an ancient textbook about reading horse behaviour (heavily slanted towards picking winners in racing). Other factors aside, it suggested buying foals out of lead mares, as they were accustomed to running in front of the pack. (It di make me wonder about the wisdom of racing stallions...).
Now I can see what is truly possible from horseback (not that I can ride these days, but I treasure the knowledge in and of itself), and the mysteries of training even advanced dressage moves are beginning to fall away piece by piece. It is all so exciting to finally see a glimpse of the path to complex and unnatural behaviours, based on core foundation groundwork.
Thank you so much for publishing your work freely!
Beautiful Nita & Mel a match made in heaven 🥰
Ответить❤❤
ОтветитьLovely to see Nita again!
ОтветитьI'm 65 years old I purchased an Arabian 2 years ago I hadn't ridden since I was a child I have learned so much from Steve and on great-grand work with Sebastian I love him and I'm having a wonderful time he's a great horse a little spooky yet sometimes but he's great and I'm enjoying every minute of my senior life with him he was a gift from God
ОтветитьSteve Young. There's a "trainer" here in the US, Ryan Rose. He has to be the worst trainer. I happened upon one of his videos. Everything he does is just WRONG! He needs to watch your videos to see how it's done. He chasrs horses with flags, he makes the horse walk beside him, He moves them.around strictly by chasing them with that dam flag. If I get a chance, watch a video. He should be charged with animal abuse.
ОтветитьSteve Young, the video of Ryan Rose I watched. He's working with a 7 yr old Paso Fino. It's appalling!! I feel really bad for the horse. He's evaluating if she's "worth to keep training," indicating, she'll be euthanized if she isnt.
ОтветитьMel - wow! You are an inspiration to us all!
ОтветитьWhat amazing courteous drivers you have. I live in a country lane in NZ that takes us on to to an all use recreational area the audacity of some drivers is just out of this world - trucked passed us at 60 km and then used air breaks and my steady little pony (in cart) got a huge fright and took off not to mention my friend on a sensitive 16.2hh horse that went to spin! I wish we had serious enforcement here!
ОтветитьNita is looking fabulous Mel! Good on You! You are a wonderful Horsewoman! God Bless you for bringing her back for this restart!
ОтветитьSorry but I think Nita is checked out completely. No sparks in her eyes...
ОтветитьI really enjoy this channel. But so many commercials lately!
ОтветитьMel and Nita are a perfect match! They both want to ride out, gently and feel capable. They are gorgeous!
Ответить"Indie" might have been my suggestion because my dog, Indie, was born on 4th July.
ОтветитьShe looks so proud bless her heart
ОтветитьAt 70 I decided to get back to riding. Am doing western as have done for many years, but plan to improve my seat etc by going back to basics with some riding lessons on an English saddle - here in France it's all 'classic English ' with very few western riding stable. So Mel is incredibly inspiring and I bet lots of people will be thinking that their riding days are not over yet🤔 Thanks Mel good on you❤
ОтветитьI recently started riding again at 58 Mel is an inspiration and wouldn't we all love to have a Nita to ride she is so good. Thank you.
Ответитьhas Charlotte been OK? Just wondered cos you said she hasn't risen for two years. Hope you're ok Char!
ОтветитьNita is really great for Mel. Thanks for your knowledge and sharing your training
