Fish Aquarium Stinks? Water Smells Bad

Fish and the tanks will be fine for a few days, fish don't need to be fed every day. I don't feed them every Sunday on purpose. I haven't logged into my Fb in weeks, I'm soo sick of the corona virus stuff everywhere... It's Midday Tuesday here in Melbourne Australia.

Yes I can tell by the smell of the water too when something is wrong. I have a small3 gallon tank in my bedroom and I noticed a smell from it the other day. I did a heavy water change and my betta was nearly dead . I had to finish putting him to sleep.

You can smell a lot of different smells for tanks including ammonia and certain bacteria

I can always tel when they have dosed chlorine in the tap water, and usually hold off a day or two before a big water change, until it doesnt smell as strong..

I had to leave my fish for a week... I know exactly what you're talkin about.. four of my tanks where fine, but two of them had a smell as soon as I immediately walked in. I usually do two 30% water changes a week.. I'm guessing that they got a little over fed while I was gone..but I could definitely tell that the water was a little more funky...😁

I just set up a 5.5gal fish tank and used freshwater from a local fish store. I've used Seachem Stability/Prime/Prestine/Flourish in the tank to include 3 root tabs for the plants. I noticed today that the fish tank has a strong odor that is similar to the inside 'guts' of a pumpkin. Any advice on what could be causing that? Currently no fish in the tank.

Also, the plants seems to be browning a bit. I tested the water and my Ph is around 6.6, ammonia is .50 ppm, nitrite is 0 ppm, and nitrate is 10-20ppm.

New to the hobby and after already having to re-do the tank due to a substrate that raised my Ph to 8.2 I am starting to get discouraged. lol

My water stinks like sewer, I've done water changes. Yesterday I had to do a complete water change because I had a green algae bloom I rinsed the filter in the aquarium water and vacuum the gravel, the water looks nice and clear but again the water stinks! he;p
