I always loved how they taught me that george washington let all his slaves go when he died, like i went through all of high school thinking he was a good ass dude til one day i realized that was just a nice way of saying that he kept slaves until the day he died

The problem is history is presented in a shitty way. Waterboarding kids with brochure info isn't fun.

History books often get it wrong. Curt Cobain actually rode a donkey to get his sandwich. After he did that he freed the slaves.

I actually love Napoleonic era war stories. There were armored horsemen, guns, cannons, rockets all while bayonets, sabres, lances and horses were used in the same era. For one, I remember listening to a book where a British corporal while loading his rifle in battle was talking to a friend who cheerfully took a swig of his canteen, only then to have his head blown apart by a cannonball. The same corporal recounts later that day how he heard his friends wailing wife calling out for him after the battle and the men were in line for inspection, and upon hearing that no other man could pinpoint her husbands body, the corporal was forced to do the depressing task and lead her to the site of the body. Weirdly enough, he then says how he asked to marry the girl because of the sorrowful state she was in and that he could of tooken care of her, but she refused politely in the dreadful situation, choosing to stay with her cousin in a nearby city, for she could not bear the sorrowful life of a soldiers wife a second time.
