Italian, not for any reasons of the quality of life, but simply due to the terrain they ended up fighting in. Austrians and Italians fought from mountains and frozen valleys in the Alps for most of the war, with occasional assaults along the coasts and direct borders. Both were near suicide, you either froze and fell in the mountains or ran desperate to find any cover in no man’s land in the open. All for essentially scraps after the war ended.

The Italians felt just as betrayed and hurt by the end of WW2 towards the allies as the Germans were, and the King was never able to recover his popularity from it.

I’d hate to fight for France. Imagine, in the case of the 151, being put through Yser, Marne, Argonne, Second battle of Champagne, 3 rounds at Verdun (including 2 on Mort Homme where 2 and half of your 3 battalions are absolutely decimated), the Somme, 3 more at Verdun, and Soissons

Germany. Imagine getting called to fight by an ally, to slog through one of the most brutal campaigns in the world, fighting a two-front war. Losing, having to sign the “Treaty of Versailles” then after all that get blamed for a war you never even started.

Serbia I guess did not have a major army but they unquestionably had the worst time of it. Their army suffered between 300,000 and 450,00 military deaths out of a total country population of 4.5 million. With another 500,000-800,000 civilian deaths the country suffered a national mortality rate of something between 15 and 25 percent, a staggering figure that no other country even came close to approaching. The country was completely overrun by German, Austrian and Bulgarian invaders, not mention typhoid and spanish flu epidemics, the scale of the disaster in unimaginable.

In my opinion, I would have to say the French army granted. My knowledge on the Italian and Eastern front need refreshing. But in regards to the Western front. I would wholeheartedly say the French and no, this isn't just French bashing. They had the worst uniforms, worst weaponry. And some of the worst trenches, you could possibly live in or fight in for that matter. All of which was compounded by the same logistical issues, the other allies we're having until late 1917 or 18. Topped off by some of the worst fighting in the war.
And you ran a pretty good chance of being dubbed a coward or getting shot By your own commanding officers. Granted especially

Serbs had the hardest fights and time during ww1 just imagin they had 3 big wars befor ww1 started then they have been winnig all fights against the worldsuperpower and an enemy which is 10times bigger then yourself, no more ammunition and then getting from your allies the fals size of ammunition, preparing all that ammunition without time and still winning all the fights was attacked from behind by Bulgaria but has to leave the country without losing a fight with civilians across the alps during the worst wintertime, losing 1/3 of their own population..
