The physical acting of Waltz with his pen; how he unscrews the cap to the ink and replaces it, the way he picks up his pen to write, the little flourish -- just creepy. I also absolutely love how Landa plays at not having a full grasp on French, despite stating so in a complex sentence that shows understanding of various tenses, showing that in reality he is a very adept French speaker. Just chilling.

The sound effect mastery was gold too!

Fantastic film, and a fantastic video, Michael. The opening sequence is a masterpiece in film-making as a whole - including the portrayal of suspense. This is what I LOVE about art - how expressive and vivid it is in explaining to us ONE way in which a world may work. To zero in on a scene, and to observe the minute details of it, representative as a part unit of a whole. Art truly is a wonderful medium through which to explore the world, and creators who utilize it to such a vivid extent I admire and appreciate very much :)

Which is the Other scene from this film that you watch oncw a year? i'd hazard a guess that its the Basement Scene OR the Apple Strudels?

Another great example of suspense is the apartment scene from Pulp Fiction. Great acting. Great burger.

One slight plot problem - it is extremely unlikely that a French dairy farmer in the 1940s would speak fluent English.

I was too focused on what the Germans and the French people where saying but the subtitles went too fast sonic couldn’t catch what the movie was mostly doing here but all I got from it was a girl is having a movie premiere with a lot of nazis to watch and she is going to then blow up the theater ending the war with the Basterd companions. That’s all I got.

To me this is Quinton's best movie

This is one of the two best movie scenes ever created (by Tarantino and the unbelievably good Christoph Waltz) - the other one being the dance scene with Al Pacino in "The Scent of Women"

I've seen this movie two days ago and this scene is exactly what made me want to watch it. Thank you for explaining this scene more in detail.

How did you blow that one?

Waltz is anything but subtle and no interrogation has ever looked like this. You simply don’t get to the truth by terrifying or intimidating someone. It works in the fantasy land of Tarantino’s mind, but anyone equipped with any knowledge of human behaviour knows it’s absurd. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun cinema. There’s just nothing particularly great about it

I wonder what is LaPadite is chopping at the opening scene.

Why is he axing the stump without wood being on top?

Before ordering fire on the floor, Landa finish with the word Adieu which mean goodby in French. Litterally it mean to God or "A Dieu", it became one word "Adieu". In French you use it when you don't know when or if you gonna meet again, for all you know you may very well meet again in another life. God or fate will decide. The familly underneath the floor must have been very relieved to hear this last word. But in a more sinister turn of events he sends them to death, litterally to God. When he says goodby to Shoshana he uses the more informal "Au revoir" again it is used to say goodby, but when you know you are going to meet again eventually. So he is matter of factly threatning her by politly saying goodby. Very chilling.

I felt absolutely horrible for Monsieur LaPadite. He just wanted to protect his family.

The only mistake in this scene is Landa would have definitely have had Perrier k1lled for harbouring enemies of the state.

Been watching alot of your videos, to me you're one of the best when it comes to movies. I hate seeing all these lazy channels with an ai voice recapping exactly what happens in the movie and getting way more subscribers and views than legit channels like yours.

There is no way he knew who she was. From her running away, he couldn’t see her face. He hadn’t heard her voice. He’d only know a vague version of her physical features, like what they place on a license. The drama gets played up because he likes making people uncomfortable for an easier read and SHE recognizes HIM!!!!

IB shows Tarantino's strengths and weaknesses. The 4 suspense scenes (opening, strudel, card game, and Italian accents) are all excellent. The opening probably the best but they're all good examples of how to show tension.

However, the rest of the movie isn't that good. Shosanna and her black coworker have no chemistry, and the Nazis were pretty dumb to allow a French woman they know nothing about to run the theater with Hitler inside. You've also got her and the Basterds having the same plan, as either plot can succeed and we get the same result.

The movie as a whole would have worked better without Hitler, making Landa the main villain and focuses it on him hunting Shosanna while she's trying to kill him.

Inglorious Bastards is such a phenomenal film. It’s a masterpiece and one of Tarantino’s best.

Tarantinos dialogue is such works of art I luv how so many scenes are just slow burned while keeping the tension soo high

A small detail that noone ever mentions is how Landa chugs the milk. To down a drink in one swig is a pretty rude gesture, especially when you're in someone else's home and they provided it. But by doing so with no concern for looking rude, he shows his power because they are too afraid to appear disgusted or disrespected
