I’m old school. I believe if you want to sell cars, make a better car. I’ve sworn off American branded cars but not American made cars. As far as trump goes… he lies. Drilling for more oil in the US will NOT lower oil prices. Our oil will be sold on the world market unless I missed the part about American oil only for sale to Americans. According to Mark Cuban, trump went to Saudi Arabia to convince them and Russia to lower production to boost the cost of oil! What a guy, he cares so much. 👍

He can if you get rid of all the EV's and go back to the basic Fuel no one really wants EV's there a hassle and you have to pay more for an electric grid put in your house. IF you bought it and your warranty is up I assume. You will have to buy a 20k battery Were now seeing EV's batteries blow up and cause quite the damage in a guys garage. On top of that Fire and rescue can't put it out properly at least that is what was told. Hey don't get me wrong Ev's can be a cool thing but only for city use not long travel. I hope Trump Brings back our Jobs so there built here.

With regards to chip shortages, why can't car manufacturers make chipless cars? It's been done before! I would rather have no computer chips in the car that I drive. It will not be able to spy on me, it will last longer and probably run for ever. Give me a 1985 Toyota Corolla SR5 with a manual transmission, hand cranked windows, mechanical fuel injection, analog gauges, cheaper to maintain, etc, anyday over what we currently have.

I don’t think by himself he can save it. The auto industry needs to meet him half way.
Drop the EV mandates, let the market control.
Put out affordable hybrids for those that want them.
Build affordable ICE vehicles to generate American jobs.

We had high import tariff’s on steel when the Chinese was dumping cheap steel on us, so why not on EV’s.

What's hurt the automakers is their 30%+ prices hikes. Automakers makers don't need more write offs and handouts from the American taxpayers. They need to stop the greed and and drop their prices by 30%+.

Wondering how his plan would replace the loss of revenue from no taxes on tips and SSI income. During his last tenure as president he added some 8 trillion to the national debt. Finally, the tariffs don’t add revenue from China, our importers actually pay those tariffs and pass them on to us in the US. This seems like an ad for Trump. In the end Trump can’t control taxation, that is our legislators

Total naivety - Trump’s economic proposals make absolutely no sense - it is going to triple the budget deficit to over $7 trillion - and where is this money going to come from? We will be borrowing heavily from China, the Gulf Nations and the dollar will sink. Trump will drag the US into a permanent decline. People who have an education will tell you Trump has zero credibility, much like how he swindled banks and investors through 6 bankruptcies.

I have to disagree. I think a great point was introduced to the conversation in asking "-is this just a short term fix overlooking deeper economic issues?" because it is. I don't even know that the changes from this policy will even reach the consumer to effect spending positively. The consumer is hurting financially, and there is a great economic issue that tariffs alone are not capable of fixing. Our automotive industry is hurting internally because our economy is hurting - China didn't tell our govt to spend as much as they have an push us into this inflationary period in time. China sees the weakness in our economy and is on a course to manipulate a wound, that if it did not exist, they would not be coming here otherwise. As a Jamaican I've seen it done to our island, China does this and is doing it with outher countries that struggle financially as well.

In a new Trump US presidency he should have the US Interstate system start a long term transition to rural German Autobahn level of high speed and high truck weight capability. This would greatly increase the quality of US engineered automobiles and tires with no restrictive speed limits on rural interstates and allow much heavier trucks for lowering shipping costs.

There was a slight cost savings in building the US Interstates to a lower standard than the German Autobahn, but restricting speed on rural interstates resulted in US cars becoming stagnate in their engineering development compared to German cars starting in the 1960s. The low weight limit has made moving heavy assemblies difficult and more expensive overall for moving freight.

The continued use in the US of bias ply tires instead of developing high speed radial tires as happened quickly Europe in during the early 1960s and on resulted in many unexplained crashes claimed to be from speed, but on the unlimited speed autobahn tires and cars advanced to be competent over their entire driving envelope.

The US land yacht cars of the late 1950s and on would have been quickly much more competent when being engineered for their entire speed envelope with tire technology advancing quickly. The favoring of SUVs in the US would likely be replaced with more competent sedans with no speed limit rural interstates.

If Trump wants USA to own the car market, then he needs to DM me and we have a chat.

New combustion tech I am working on will be 150 MPG HWY, 240 city, 200 average.

Make fuel for $1/gal or use Natural Gas from house at $1/gal equivalent.

An EV will be 60 to 90 cents/kwh ($20 to $30/gal equiv.).

An EV is 127 MPGe HWY, 141 City, 134 average.

200/134= 1.5x better with combustion.

EVs are OBSOLETE.

Stellantis cut a deal with China, and the UAW, before they started down this road. UAW leadership, wanted money in their own pockets, than more UAW jobs. This is China's plan, to have total access, to the American market. Stellantis path forward, is re-badging Chinese vehicles, as American products. They wouldn't be able to pull this off, with out Shawn Fien's cooperation. They're all bought and paid for, buy China. This is a risk, to America's national security.
The Obama administration, made d@mn certain, they would all be gone, when the unworkable part of "environmental regulations" kicked in force. We'll be there in 10 years. The next couple years, will kill off our domestic auto manufacturing. A population, without out wheels, is easy to control.
This will be a disaster, for all Americans. Only the rich will be able to roll. The wealthy, figure they no longer need the rest of us, to live their lives of opulence. This has been obvious since 2021. Stellantis will link up with BYD, in Mexico. Chinese companies, only let Chinese workers, in their factories.
We"re boycotting anything Stellantis, and suggest everyone else does the same. Maybe we can save GM, and Ford, from the same fate. China intends on being the world's only manufacture. Our regulations, are how they intend do it.
The fact that Trump, isn't talking about undoing regulations, means he's not going to fix this. We must set aside mandates, and roll back regulations to 2013 levels. That was the last time we could make reliable vehicles. The vehicle that pollutes the worst, are those made unreliable, or worse un-repairable.

Well let's examine what Democrat policies are already doing. I'm an electrician in a plant that makes nothing but EV's. This is my 2nd Detroit 3 auto maker and 2nd assembly plant. Now having worked a traditional and EV. The line I oversee doesn't have a single production operator loading parts at any section of the line. It's completely ran by robots picking from racks loaded by forktrucks. Here's the kicker, even forktruck driver jobs are going away as I have 2 sections that get loaded by Automated Guided Forktrucks. Remember it's Democrat policies pushing the EVs and yet simple minded Shawn Fain keeps endorsing the very party that has brought this crap on.

I don't think boosting production will matter if average people can't afford a car. That's why sales are falling right now, cars have become too expensive so producing more expensive cars that won't sell doesn't seem to have a real purpose, unless manufactures are still in the denial stage in regards to pricing. Cost of living crisis is forcing people to pare down to essentials and new cars are becoming out of reach for more and more people. I won't pay 50 k for a car because I can't, the money isn't there and I'm not willing to get into big time debt.
