Wow..close to what I had designed about 5 years ago. One main difference is the ground skate. Instead of wheels, imagine all roadways having embedded induction coils for wireless power transfer to the skate (which houses the removable pod). The skate takes the power and uses it to run a compressor on the skate that creates liquid nitrogen that is used to cool the superconductive magnet under the skate to achieve the quantum locking effect between the road and the skate/pod. Basically like the Star Wars LandSpeeder.

how realistic is this. I'd imagine there'd be wayy more accidents in the air than on the ground. plus an air accident isn't isolated, it would hit the ground and who knows what else that could cause

would be a great next step from driverless cars.... and if manufacturers can agree to use a universal mechanism for mounting and picking up the pod then we may see a lot more variations of this excellent design concept.
