Vedanta speaks about three types of “I-s”. [1] The first one is Universal “I” or Universal Consciousness, Pāramārthika Satta; [2] the second one is the ‘ego-I’ for which intellect is the center; and [3] the third one is the ‘mental I’, which is vyāvahārika satta. Buddha categorically speaks only about [2] and [3]: and whenever question was asked about the First One, he said “that can never be explained but can only be experienced by the one who has crossed the threshold of mind and matter. Whenever he spoke about ‘anatta’, he only meant the 2nd and the 3rd ‘I-s’ and never the First One. He never denied the existence of CONSCIOUSNESS. Whenever he spoke about ‘anatta’ he referred it to [1] roopa [the physical body], [2] vinyana [chidabhasa or chithchaaya], [3] sanya [perceprion], [4] vedana [sensations] and [5]samskara [impressions carried forward in the form of vāsanās]. He explained that attachment to these five ‘khandās’ as duhkha- suffering [pancha upadana khanda duhkha]. He experienced Ultimate Eternal Happiness after his Enlightenment. This absolute state of Eternal Happiness is called in Vedanta as “Sath-Chith-Ananda- blissful conscious existence”. This Supreme State according to Buddha is “Jnaana mattaaya, patisathi mattaaya” and according to Vedanta it is “Parabrahman or Paramatma, known as I AM- Aham Asmi”. Whenever this gets ‘reflected’ in our intellect, IT is known as Atma- the subtlest feeling of “I Am”, which pulsates in every human being as “pure beingness”.

I have been to some of the villages where the Buddha preached the four noble truths. I love his videos. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

Dependent origination is not a circle. If it were so, ignorance would depend on death. This issue arises when trying to interpret dependent origination in a temporal way when it is in fact atemporal. The most important thing to understand is the general principle, which is what the Buddha discovered: when this is, that is; when this arises, that arises... ". It is about the simultaneous presence of two phenomena. One depends on the other. This insight can be applied to our experience to realise that nothing in our experience is independent. Everything depends on smth else that we don't control. E. G. : we usually think in terms of "my sights". Yet, without a working eye, is there seeing? No. Can we keep this working eye forever? No. It can be taken away at any time! So these sights are not truly ours and never were ours.

In Buddhism the first noble truth of suffering has to do with the psychophysical body consisting of five aggregates, namely, material shape (rūpa), feeling (vedanā), perception (saṃjñā), volitional formations (saṃskāra), and consciousness (vijñāna). Since our birth we have attached to this body in the belief that it is who we are, but it is not. The real self is suprapersonal. It transcends our psychophysical body. It does not suffer. According to the Buddha this psychophysical being is the demon Māra (SN III.195).

@System-change-SL - 14.05.2024 06:54

What Buddha found was the phenomenon of nature, the cause and effect. The nature only exists by two components.

1. Energy

2. Mass

Any creature has both mass and energy, simultaneously. Energy needs for recognising any thing as a mass. It could be as a vision, as a hearing, as a smelling, as a tasting or as a touching. This action is working on a simple equation. If energy available there is a possibility of rising a thought. Any rising though wouldn't be able to retain, it's rise and fall in every moment of a being.

This rising but falling thought is the everything we recognise as the world.

If this occurs this occurs. If this not occurs this not occurs. This finding is what make Siddhartha to be called him as Govthama Buddha. He named it as Paticcasamupada, the theory of the nature, cause and effect.

Our existence is all about a rise and fall of a thought. Death body has mass but no energy simultaneously. That's why it can't think, it is simply dead.

If we understand there is no self unless we create it as again a thought, there will not be suffering anymore. Why, who wants to hold this rise and fall moment of thought? What's the point of holding this nature of impermanence? It's always impermanent. If you are trying to hold this impermanence generation of a mass, either it is a vision, a hearing, a smelling, a tasting or a touching, that's the case for suffering. Simply it's not possible to keep without changing. It's the nature.

If one can fully get out from this cause of suffering by contemplating this nature's reality, one wouldn't be suffering at all. That's the Buddha status. He is not dead but he lives happily without make him suffering until the end of lifespan. That's the end of cycle of rebirth.

We may not be able to reach that ultimate but we can go closer by understanding and contemplating the reality of the impermanence nature. It is not rocket science but you need to use the energy you have brought in as a human being to understand and contemplate in this lifespan. Please try, you will feel the change 🙏.

Aggregates are just a form. Problem with us is that we never see this ultimate truth as the reality. That's why we think, it's me and mine doing aggregats. Once you start establishing this impermanence consciousness as permanent me and mine, that's the cause for making you suffering. Because, definitely nothing is permanent. This permanent thought will end up with sorrow, even it will provide a temporary happiness at present/

Dependent origination should be seen as a circle is not correct. It is a chain, which is the samsara at this lifespan. If it's a circle, by removing ignorance still won't be able to get out from a cycle. Because it is a chain in this lifespan, one can break it by understanding the ultimate truth without ignorance and contemplating Dhamma. Please try to correct it

Yes but the observer is still there. Before the mind is developed enough to be self-conscious, the observer was already there, but the observer is not complex enough for complex thought. If the body is not available such as sleeping, observer stops observing, but once the body is available, the observer is there, and it's the same observer. When the body sleeps or lose consciousness, sense of time is lost. Once the body is available again, the observer is there and it's the same observer. The observer does not appear to age, if the body is old, it observes the oldness the same way. If the body is young it observes the youth the same way. If body is not available, it does not observe. The observer is still there. It just doesn't have the body to observe. If body is available again, it will observe again as the same timeless observer. So really, the issue appears to be whether the observer has a body or not.

My contribution to the above video, narrated from another point of view:
Mr. Ego Attains Perfect Wisdom - Quits Servitude

"Mr. Ego!" calls the Count of Mu.
"Yes, my Lord," promptly responds Mr. Ego.

"Mr. Ego, I have noticed that through all these years of serving me, you have made a mountain of sacred books, teachings, countless parchments with holy scriptures, symbols, pictures of gurus, renderings of prophets' semblances, religious paraphernalia, talismans, crosses, magic wands, incantations, mantras, prayers, advice signed by their writers, and UFF! I am exhausted enumerating them.

Do you have a rational explanation for your bizarre behavior?"

"To be very frank, my Lord, I don't know anymore what is rational or not."

"Mmm, you seem to be peerlessly wise.
Please explain your behavior."

"That mountain, higher than the towers of your castle, is the result of discarding obsolete and nonsensical items, the product of my studies to reach spiritual enlightenment."

"Excellent explanation, Mr. Ego. Congratulations!
And what do you intend to do with all that garbage?"

"It is my funeral pyre, my Lord. I will immolate myself with the things that defined me since my birth."

"Wow! Mr. Ego, a very commendable and well-deserved end, congratulations again!
I humbly ask you, my Lord, to chant the Heart Sutra with no ads, while I burnS."

"Your wish is granted, Mr. Ego, delighted to see you go up in flames. I especially endorse the conjugation of the verb 'burn'."

"Thank you, my Lord."

"And when are you going to perform the ultimate rite?"

"Tonight, my Lord, that is the fool's moon."

"Excellent, excellent, Mr. Ego!
But before you get ready, let me treat you with one of my cigars."

"I do not smoke, my Lord."

"And who says that my cigars smoke?"

"Ah, I still make assumptions, how sticky is my conditioning to the meanings of language! I apologize, my Lord."

"Apologize? To whom, and for what?"

"I apologize to you, my Lord, for my mistakes."

"Mr. Ego, I find it pertinent that you apologize to yourself because I am a creation of your mind.
Do you understand?"

Suddenly, a bright star illuminates the entire quarters of Mr. Ego's mind. He leaps to the ceiling of the room and walks down the walls, tears of light pour from his eyes, and he screams, "YES! THIS IS IT!"

He finds himself wearing the garments of his lord and looking at the pyre through a window without glass, laughs like a madman, free from servitude, and owner of the entire lands that once he thought belonged to his lord, The Count of Mu.
His master gone, he adopted the lord's name, now invested with the title, The Count of Nothingness (Mu).

Great video ! : ) Though is Buddhism really unique in believing there is no self ?
Spiritual / Philosophical teachings eg Stoicism & Christs ideas almost certainly had their roots in Buddhism & have much the same believes ( Christs teachings that God is Love, & everything is One with God )
There have also been many nature based teachings believing that everything is Connected / One
Doesn`t the idea that Buddhism is unique only create separation ? : )

The idea that there are no individual atmas separate from Brahman comes from the Upanishads (that were taught to Buddha by his 10 gurus). While Upanishads proclaim that Brahman is the only reality, Buddha didn't answer this question (he kept quiet when asked about it). Subsequent Buddhist scholars perpetuated the illogical idea that untimately there is nothing. Some Buddhists started to claim that Adi Sankara coipied Buddhism for his Advaita. In fact, Buddha himself elaborated on the Upanishads.

A segment from 'Saved by the Light of the Buddha Within'...
My new understandings of what many call 'God -The Holy Spirit' - resulting from some of the extraordinary ongoing after-effects relating to an NDE...

Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence – the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future – right down to the minutest particles of dust – each being an individual ripple or wave.
The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration. ‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter – I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist.
For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects – including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars – none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is.
Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses. To break it down – Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists – including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them – our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant – our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma – and more importantly, our enlightenment.
The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory – whenever we experience or express our emotions – or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing.
The second law – Renge – Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho – these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination – Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge – or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter – as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication – perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists.
Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us – all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux – constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ – the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation – rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge – and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu – which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’.
On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives – as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives – even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances – turn them into positive ones – or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are – regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect – the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication.
For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything.

NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self – this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things – such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally – rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within – including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time – to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

To be conscious, is to be self-conscious.
Since ignorance is a condition that affects a self, could ignorance exist if there is no self?

With respect, the Buddha did not teach non-self, he taught what is not self. Anatta means not self, he never taught that there is no self, he only taught to abandon views of self and also views on non-self.

It’s very dangerous what you are teaching, as it is a subtle view of no-self which the Buddha categorically stated is erroneous and is in fact nihilistic.

Please don’t do that, it has caused enough psychological damage in people over the years.

Just read the sutta ‘the five and three’ and the sabbasava sutta in the original Pali and you will see, well at least I hope you do, as one’s liberation depends on it.
