As an old American Shot Putter, I follow all field events. I didn't see any negative comments. Not online or in the "mainstream media." In fact, the news was extremely positive. ???

Should the Geelong Football Club have taken the 4 premierships points that were on offer instead of splitting 2 points apiece with the Adelaide Crows when the Crows decided to forfeit their match against them back in 2015 due to the tragic and unexpected death of their coach, or was it really worth Geelong getting themselves an extra two points at the Crows' expense and risk losing the long term services of now captain Patrick Dangerfield in the process (who was in his final year with Adelaide before coming home to Geelong)? You be the judge. There is no difference to that situation as there is with this situation here.

But I looked at the results and it doesn't say shares for pole vault in the Olympics Paris.
But that explanation of US Media says a lot of why in men's high jump they didn't share the medal, resulting in the US getting silver.
