LG Refrigerator Won't Cool - How to Troubleshoot and Fix

I have a very similar model. I am only getting 118 volts for the compressor. So it’s a board issue? How do I be sure of correct voltage?

Old fridges last 10x as long and are 10x more reliable then todays crap.

Hi Ben, I have a LG French door refrigerator, model # lrfcs25d3s. The unit has begun to trip the GFI when the door is opened. It is not plugged directly into the GFI but the plug it is in is daisy chained to it. I took the top left door hinge cover off and looked for crimped wires. None found but it still tripped when that side was opened ever so slightly. I taped down the plastic door plunger on top of the piece on the left door that swivels to seal both doors and have not had a problem yet. Your thoughts for how to permanently fix correctly. Thanks in advance.

This was an awesome video - the only thing that could have been added was how to locate the thermistors and showing them being removed/tested. Otherwise, this was awesome!

Hello, have LG , LFX28968ST ( Fridge/ FREEZER isn’t Cooling Compressor is vibrating when touch, Fans an condenser Fan are working, after giving fridge a Reboot an hit the test button after gong through test 1-4 on test 1 get 3 Beeps, test 2 get 2 Beeps an on front screen 22 shows, test 3 3 Beeps an 33 on front screen, test 4 No Beep an fridge Fans all stop running an Compressor stops Vibrating. Until reboot or Press test button again, then after short time all fans and Compressor stops again,? What does this mean? PS. Can’t find any Flashing Light on Board or Display Screen. 🙏🙏🙏

My daughter bought one of these LG refrigerators the warranty 10-year warranty was out in 2023 she she lost all her food and has a 9 year old daughter thats autistic an uncomprehensible amount of distress with this LG refrigerator going bad and the warranty is out ... Being her father at my age I understand the electronics in home appliances dough go bad from time to time after reviewing the LG refrigerators I am astonished at the amount of refrigerators that have gone bad what does particular problem shame on LG the refrigerator has been in my garage for over a year can I have come to the conclusion that the compressor is bad at the end LG appliance refrigerator is not worth the money buying but I will not stand behind their product they also knew that this compressor would potentially cause problems.. thank you sir for this comprehensive video and trying to show people with this god-awful product that has put a lot of people in distress...

So ge 3 door it freezes great. Now I moved this united and let say it was a wrestle from truck to another place how long should it sit for fridge to work properly

I'm dealing with the LG on the right, and I just can't seem to figure it out. It shows it has freon, but the upper evaporator isn't getting frosty. When I put it into test mode, it skips the third test? I will try all your suggestions and see where I end up. And thank you for the heads up on the law suit info.

Excellent video with great in depth troubleshooting. My LG is a 2011 model, and I was able to complete all the steps outlined here. Looks like I will be looking at a new unit unfortunately, mine just won't freeze anymore, hovers right around 30F and just keeps running all day

Great video. Thank you. Right at the beginning, the viewing window light came on without knocking on the LG at the right. Mine has done that from 2017 when I bought it. Tech replaced mother board, still does it. Is it most likely the knock sensor? Is this common?

If you have an LG Fridge that stops cooling or isn't cooling enough in 2025, and you suspect it's the sealed system/compressor, if less than 10 years old but more than 5, LG has a flat rate repair offer that I just utilized. You get it through the LG site, it was $400 plus tax but includes all parts and labor to fix the unit. They assign a local company to do the work. Be sure they send you a competent tech. My first one rush the job and failed but the second was excellent and now my fridge is cooling once again.

Great video! I have a 2010 LG french door model that just started not cooling properly. Following your video I got to the control board. All the fans run and the compressor runs but both compartments are way too warm. I’m seeing the green LED flashing 6 times, so you’re saying that’s likely a bad board. I got the number off my board and it’s EBR73304222 and looks just like your board. I’ve found several replacement boards out there that look like mine but the last two digits of the part number are not 22, but 24. Would those boards work in my unit? I’m thinking it’s just a minor revision from the board in mine, but I can’t find anything anywhere about which control board part numbers are compatible.

My very recent experience with the exact refrigerator shown in the video is that the compressor had failed. It was still running and cooling the refrigerator, but the freezer was not freezing. The way the compressor fails is that the plating on the piston and inside of the cylinders flakes off and gets circulated through the system, sometimes blocking one or both of the evaporators or the condenser. After the first technician replaced the compressor and filter and flushed my system 3 separate times over a period of 2 months, it still wasn't freezing. The second tech flushed the system again and replaced the filter a second time. This finally seemed to clear the flakes out of the system and now it is cooling properly. Fingers crossed.

Any refrigerator with aluminum lines will leak Freon and then the compressor is ruined. Time to buy a new Refrigerator.

How many trata take a refrigerator won’t be cool

We needed a new fridge a few years ago and ended up with an LG due to it being in stock. The reviews online showed 4.4 stars so we thought we were good. Here we are 3 years later and watching your video to figure out why our food isn't being kept cold like it should be. I also found out about the class action lawsuit against LG over this issue too. If our fridge is over the 5 year warranty, I guess another new refrigerator is in our near future and it sure as hell won't be an LG!

Question, if I run test mode 1 do I have to run through the other tests to return the fridge to normal mode or will test 1 resolve after a period of time.

You get cheap appliances bc our Gov sent all jobs, manufacturing to China decades ago! Buy a 1950s washing machine, sewing machine or fridge MADE IN USA when this county was great. Probably still works! Thank your sell out communist Gov. For everything being crap nowadays.

I did every step and I thank you for this video, but after I've done everything and the compressor, and fan is working together, now I pressed it for a 3 time to get out of reset mode, now the fan has not come back on... what should do?

On a working lg, how long will test 1 run for?

will the evap fan in the fridge not blowing cause the freezer to not cool even if the freezers evap fan is blowing (blowing room temp air)?

My French door fridge won’t cool but freezer is fine at 0 degrees. I took the panel off but it’s just a flat wall behind it can’t see the evap. But I think a fan is enclosed in the panel covered by styrofoam but idk. There is a wire harness running to it. I pushed the test button & got 1 beep. The panel showed 88 88. I waited 5 min and pressed again and got 3 beeps. I could hear the defrost cycle. I waited 5 min pressed it again and 3 beeps. My husband is out of town. I vacuumed the back and took the bottom cover off 8 hrs ago. Hopefully after that 2nd set of 3 beeps its resets. I bought the fridge new from a scratch and dent place. They removed the serial number sticker from the inside of the fridge so I can’t use the warranty although the compressor is keeping the freezer cold. HELP PLEASE 😅

We bought the LG Studio Refrigerator and matching stove at RONA in August of 2023. For the past month the refrigerator has stopped cooling. We did buy the 4 year extended warranty. Three times different techs have been in, only to replace the wrong part. Fan, Nd now the PCB. Last tech didnt have a damn clue what he was looking for or how to fix it. Im going back to RONA to demand a new refrigerator.
