GoPro Hero 5 Review - Is it Worth it?

i just bought a gopro knock off action cam the audio was unusable. i just purchased the Hero 5.

I had an action camera after getting caught up in the craze but then soon realised I had no real use for it. I won’t be getting one again in the near future.

This review sent my boner to the ground. I was so into buying a hero5

Cheapest 4k and wide angle option...I have bought this for these two reasons..

I want one because i ride street trials and need My hands to ride. Also like the wide angel for head or chestcam stuff

Nope. GoPro hardware is decent. GoPro software (and the myriad connection issues to other devices) sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls. Absolute last GoPro product I will ever buy.

I want to put one on my helmet for hockey. I have a Session 4 which is nice but the increased resolution and also the increased frame rates at higher resolutions is a draw for me. I would prefer the 6 but not for the additional $200 it will cost.

For moto-vlogging and to get video while riding a motorcycle, would you recommend any else?

I just got a GoPRo5 I paid 299,00 plus a remote came with it .By itself its a 60.00 or 70.00 adddon So i think I got a good deal

Intending on giving it a try for hunting. Battery life sounds like the big issue. No free hands for camera operations in the field for me.

Trying to live stream with my GoPro 5 and it doesn't work, watched gazillions of how to video and it still doesn't work. Will use my phone instead. I am mind blown that in 2018 it's not plug and play.

thanks so much I was going to get a go pro for vacation that I mostly interested in good quality photographs. I just thought it would be nice that the camera would be so tiny I could put it in my pocket. I think I would be far better served now buying a pocket zoom camera.

wait does the touch screen work under water?

I love it, I use it for time lapsing while driving, also it's nice and small so I can set it up in seconds.

I appreciate your honest review, I already have a Canon DSLR and was about purchase a gopro hero 5 along with a kit and insurance. I realized after watching this video and other advice that I would only use it on my vacation coming up and not much else. I will probably just get accessories like a gimbal or lenses for my iPhone instead.

Thank you for being brutally honest and fair. I just purchased a go pro hero 5 black @ 235.99 thinking it was a steal considering the name and the hype. I really wanted and all around camera, but I'm not an adrenaline junkie. The recommendation for the Olympus TG-5 was kind of you as well. Kudos, Keep up the great work!

I want on for a dash cam and to use on vacation we do diving once a year and when I have my dog at the river

I want a hero 5 for filming in the city, and another reason because its small and easy to carry, I have a Lumix g7 but dont want to carry that around.

I would primarily use it for diving and snorkeling (deeper than 10m) but i will probably overthink that as the low light performance isn‘t that excellent

Though if you expect something super wonderful for other than sports use you're going to be disappointed. Its called an action camera not without a reason. Plus in this video he didn't mention that you can control the camera via "Capture" app on your android/ios, so the wet touchscreen problem is bullshit generally.

I have the SJCAM and I use it as a dash cam. That was my main reason for buying it.

Very fair comments. Most people do not NEED a GoPro. If you do, borrow a buddy’s because it’s likely they’re not using them to the fullest.

Thanks for the honest review, I got one to try and really un impressed so far by the difference it can offer from my iPhone. Again, walk in the park is my league.

Bought mine at auction on EBay for $149 w/tripple battery charger, 2 batteries, case, mounts and 128gb sd card. So i feel that is a hood price. As it is like new. Also, I have a session as well. I ride motorcycles and use these very often. I think ill be enjoying 1000's of hours of use.

I own a rather nice Nikon Digital SLR, with various lenses, but for the past two years, have neglected the camera, and used my Hero 4 Silver.
It takes beautiful photographs, and stunning 4k videos, and is so portable, that you can take it with you anywhere, anytime.
If you take a spare battery or two, limited battery life is never an issue.
For me, the Hero 5 is an upgrade, and i may consider getting one.

I just returned a 7white to target account of it crashing and wondered if the 5 black does the same thing..it freezes and u have to wait for the battery to die in order for u to charge it up again n use it for 10 mins b4 it freezes again..🤔☹☹😡😡

Hey, great review only thing is, it seems you don't like the camera at all. You mentioned about wide angle, but if you look at the settings it has a setting for something that's not wide angle. So I don't know if I believe you used the camera, or you did, but because you don't like it you don't want to mention it? I don't have one and thinking on getting one. Want to use to record my band's live performances and because of the audio recording feature and can't beat the price.

I want to start vlogging and I thought having a small camera would be a good idea so I can sneak in those personal and crazy moments. However my videos are not going to be artsy and nature-y but more just random and fun moments. According to my circumstances, is it worth it to buy one?
