I remember back when you were planning the power plant for Tally Ho that you'd talked about the hybrid system and the feathering the prop. What I recall is that you talked about how the prop would rotate while under sail and that by doing so you could charge the batteries. I thought at the time that the feathering would be controlled by the cockpit so that you decide when the prop would spin to provide charge and when it feather to allow the boat to travel at higher speeds under sail. This prop auto feathers, was it a change in design philosophy or did I not understand the original intent.

Ответитьwant your money back?
ОтветитьI’m curious about the thread on the main shaft of the capstan. I think I saw, during the rebuild at the machine shop, that the main shaft was replaced. I could be wrong. Did you use the original main shaft or create a new one? The U.K. has British thread standards. Were the original threads the British threads, BSW or BSF, or were they UNC, UNF, or Metric?
Ответить"Wicked good". He must be from New England.
ОтветитьLeo and crew- loved your channel for years. Question. What wifi wind instrament did you get? I need one on my Trimaran docked in Anacortes. thanks
ОтветитьOmg, portownsend? My family is from there, I’m going this summer for a two week sail on the Schooner Martha. Maybe I’ll see your boat on the docks! Congrats on one of the most beautiful wooden boats I have ever seen.
ОтветитьIve followed you from
Day one, I’ve cutover. Away for a few months, absolutely fantastic work she looks amazing well done to the whole crew everyone behind the scenes to bring her back
Perhaps your best video yet. Kudos.
ОтветитьWas in Port Townsend and had some ferry wait to kill so walked over and found Tally Ho- absolutely gorgeous in person, as if that's a surprise to anyone...
Ответитьgood on you Bill! great drive!
ОтветитьAs you've restored Tally Ho, and modernized her, this poem has often crossed my mind:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back.
Always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth,
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:
that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur that would never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meeting and material assistance which no [person] could have dreamt would come their way.
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets —
“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
W.H. Murray
Why is this blue/green/viridian/cerulean hull so much more satisfying than the previous orange?
ОтветитьHit 500,000 subscribers. Rock on.
ОтветитьWhy did you not put the propeller aperture in the dead wood ??
ОтветитьThat's a beautiful job on the capstan! :)
ОтветитьThe worth of a big propeller is not measured in money or anything else but safety!
ОтветитьBy the way, do you plan to participate in Tall Ships Races in Tallinn 2024?
ОтветитьDon't know where you are going to document Tally Ho, but U.S. Coast Guard Rules say the your screens for sidelights shall be painted matt black (Rules of the Road Annex I section 5.)
ОтветитьLeo, I’m so thankful for you and your crew, and I wish you decades of great success!
I wanted to add that I’m amazed at the things you (and the Amazing Bearded Bob) have taught me about ropes and knots. I’m incredibly impressed by the work you showed with the lighting knots. Cheers
Tally Ho is truly beautiful, a credit to her designer Albert Strange and all that have supported her journey and laboured to save this important boat from being lost to age and wear. Leo, your skill as a project manager, videographer, evangelist and leader of the highest quality is what has enabled the incredible quality of this amazing boat. Leo, you deserve the accolades. Enjoy!
Ответитьsign me up when crew spots become available .
ОтветитьThe advantage of wood comparative to iron, aluminium, fibers in terms of fuel economy. The propellers now is more efficient? You have a very thechnological system it make differences. I see the movement is precise
ОтветитьSo I am thinking you will sail up to Alaska and back as a shake down cruise . Don't forget the firewood for the wood heater. Curious as to who you will select for crew. Keep those videos coming
ОтветитьBeen away from the channel for a while, what happened to the guy that lost his legs from train jumping??
ОтветитьYou haven’t spoken recently about charging the batteries with the prop. Still part of the plan, right?
Ответитьpray all your money comes in for u
ОтветитьHow many knots?
ОтветитьAwesomeness 🤙🏼
Ответить👍👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьMan watching this channel grow from the beginning to what is today has been amazing adventure 🎉thank you for all the great work and talent
ОтветитьYou could always use traditional housings with led internals. I've done that before in custom building and for some Amish friends. Using old style lanterns with led lighting and hiding it with the lens.
ОтветитьSince the "shut down" of 2020 I've watched this boat build... as a mostly landlubber; I quote the Greatful Dead "what a long strange trip it's been."
ОтветитьSo When are you going to take Poncho out on Tally Ho and do the real pirate thing😂😂😂
ОтветитьHope you polish up those bronze bolt heads that Keith chewed up when tightening them down with channel locks! He did such great work and then…wtf? Haha
ОтветитьTo all who responded to my last comment regarding the Tally-Ho project last week, I apologize that I was not able to supply an answer to the many appreciated responses. I did try and after writing a response to about a dozen of the comments, I realized that they weren't being published back to the sender. I tried various attempts but could not get them to go except in one case. Sorry, and thanks again for your comments.
ОтветитьI can't understand why you don't have a boom gallows. Surely reefing that sail is going to be a nightmare with that tremendous boom trying to scythe people off the deck?
ОтветитьAre you saying there is not an app that will tell you the answer of which prop or gears you need??
Ответитьgreat
ОтветитьHow many times are you going to post the same video. I've seen the propeller and capstan 3 times now.
ОтветитьDoes your electricity generation while sailing still working with this pro?
ОтветитьI AM VOTING TRUMP RIGHT NOW.
ОтветитьYou know you've got a classic boat when it takes seizing mallets to install your running lights!
Ответитьtuning the prop reminds me a lot of overclocking. Trying to find that right sweet spot.
ОтветитьLeo, it was very smart of get the original Capstan restored, its gonna look awesome on Tally Ho's Deck! when she's all painted up! I already watched Keith's videos of recasting the Capstan it was quite the job!
ОтветитьThese videos have become a way of life for me, and I’m like a kid at X-mas when Leo publishes. Another triumph that while a bit wistful made me think of my hand tools waiting patiently for me to come back to the chest and do an honest day of work. Bravo to all who have put little signatures on board as she bravely goes about the business of Cape Horn!
I hope there are copies of Hornblower and a few bottles of good rum for the quiet times, and stout hands for the inevitable bumps in the path to Cowes.
I am a 63 year old male. I have spent many days in the waters you travel around rhe Queen Charlotte Islands.( Now known as Haida Gwaii ). As well as the inside passage, Bamfield,
Ucluelet,I have been recovering from back surgery and really enjoying your videos. I haven't seen them all but was wondering if you lovely people ever dip a fish line in the water?
Leo, I noticed in the night shots of the lighting there were some spots on the deck. Are those Deck prisms? Awesome job, hope to see her in the real world someday. Kudos to you all.
