According to a statement from Delta Air Lines regarding the incident, the Boeing 7 5 7 crash was caused by a tire exploding while being removed in a Delta Air Lines maintenance area.

The two people who were left unseen in the incident were a Delta employee and a contractor. The other seriously injured person was also an airline employee, but there was no word on his condition.
