Microwave Door Switch Test MIcrowave Repair Help

Thank you for the video! My oven stopped in the middle of making tea today... turned out that one of the switches had broken (you could hear loose pieces inside when you shook it). I found a similar one in my "drawer-o-switches" and was up and running again in no time. :-)

my microwave turns on SOMETIMES. Is this the switch you are referring to? Seeminlgy has nothing to do with the door.

so the switch is mechanical which completes a circuit when in and disconnect it when out. The switch on my microwave broke or I should say the spring mechanism became dislodged. likely due to useage but maybe due to my kids slamming the door. Well I followed the video got switch out and rather than replace it. I opened it up and for a lack of better words "screwed" with it til the spring started working. My suggestion after you confirm the switch is bad take it apart and see what you can do.

My microwave has 3 safety micro switches that are activated by the door. However, if one of them in particular is stuck in the electrically open condition, due to being defective, if now you just plug the microwave into the AC outlet, off it goes full power. The inside lights are on, the table is spinning, and the microwaves are microwaving. So much for safety !!! But it was an easy fix.

Do you need to discharge the capacitor before replacing door switches?
