📖 The Bible hundreds of years before Muhammad gives a CLEAR warning/prophecy against Islam. 1 John 2.22 and even tells who will bring about Islam John 8.44

Another great talk, Professor. As a Muslim and a dilettante religion anthropologist, it is always fascinating to know how different paradigms adapt the stories and persons into the general narratives. Curiously, just like in modern media reintegration of, say, popular franchice characters, the premise and the plot takes precedence with recognisable characters are used as plot vehicles rather than character studies.

I especially enjoyed the last part about the evolution of the character of Jesus/Isa (Peace be upon him) in the modern media. It definitely adds to the hypothesis that the text and the audience are in a constant dialogue, and interpretation of the text produces equal but opposite reaction on the text, as a text does on the audience.

The quran picks the stiry and facts about Jesus from angels and conception of Jesus.
The gospels include what the fulfillment of prophecy anout Jesus from rhe law psalms and prophets.
Thats why we have more anout him as revealed in the tanakh. Ie
Messiah sits at God's right hand and is a priest like Melchizedek
Messiah is God's salvation to ends of the world
Messiah comes back in clouds with great power with his angels and is given a kingdom to reign forever served by all peoples nations
Tgat persepective not in Quran

Have read those passages you refer to again and again and can’t see Jesus as a martial figure, rather as an exhorter for striving to righteousness

In John 14:16 Jesus promises the coming of "another" advocate ! Well, that begs the question, who is the "former" advocate ??
Was the "former" advocate Jesus ? Maybe, the former "advocates" were Jesus and John the Baptist.
Maybe all the "former" prophets were all former "advocates".
In which case the "advocate " is a "human being" that "hears", "speaks " and "teaches "

Let's see:
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will "teach" you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The word (παράκλητος) is usually translated as "advocate" but it is also comprised of two expressions
παρά = above, more
κλητος = illustrious, praised

So a sound meaning for it is "above-praised", which in Arabic is

It was common to translate names into their Greek meaning that is why the name "Kefa" meaning "rock" is translated into (Πέτρος) = Petros which became "Peter" in English.

Similarly:

Messiah in the Old Testament and in the Jewish understanding is an "anointed" leader divinely chosen (مختار) for a specific task which involves a leadership role. The Messiah is 100% human being. There is zero evidence in the Old Testament that God ever refers to Himself as a Messiah. There is no evidence that the Messiah is a savior either.
There is evidence however that the Messiah requires the help of The Almighty, the One Eternal God of Abraham, the True Saviour.
Psalms Chapter 20
ו נְרַנְּנָה, בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ-- וּבְשֵׁם-אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִדְגֹּל;
6 We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards; {N}
the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
7 Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed (messiah); {N}
He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand.

So the Messiah cannot be crucified and defeated by those who reject him !

Now you are referring to the following when you say the Quran says they called him the Messiah:
And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah (God)." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; it was made to appear to them as such. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of conjecture. And they did not kill him, for certain.
[AnNisaa' 157]

What you did not mention is that this Ayah is relaying what they said in "sarcastic boasting"

If you review the Gospel, you will find a similar reference to such boasting

Matthew 27:42
“He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

Luke 23:35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

Luke 23:39
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

So the objective of the crucifixion was to humiliate the person claiming to be the Messiah, it had nothing to do with the sins of mankind.

Then again a "true Messiah " is saved by God, as per Psalm 20 and Psalm 91.

Isa ibn Maryam of quran is Not Jesus/Yeshua of the Bible. The name Isa has no meaning or etymology in the Arabic language.
Isa is a fictitious nephew of Hazrat Musa invented by the authors of quran to resemble Jesus

### *Surah An-Nisa (4:171) – Explanation*

---

#### *Translation (Sahih International):*
*"O People of the Scripture! Do not commit excess in your religion, nor say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah and His word which He conveyed to Mary and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, 'Three'; desist—it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs."*

### *Key Points from the Verse*
1. *Warning Against Religious Extremism:*
- The verse begins by addressing the **People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab)**, particularly Christians, advising them not to exaggerate or misinterpret religious beliefs.
- The warning is against *deifying Jesus* or any form of extremism in belief.

2. *Jesus is a Messenger of Allah:*
- The Qur'an *affirms Jesus' status as a prophet* and not as divine.
- He is *“Al-Masih” (The Messiah)* and *“Ibn Maryam” (Son of Mary),* highlighting his *human* nature.

3. *"His Word" (Kalimatuhu) & "A Spirit from Him" (Ruh Minhu):*
- *"Kalimatuhu" (His Word)**: Jesus is called the **Word of Allah* because he was created by the command *"Be" (Kun),* just as Adam was.
- **"Ruh Minhu" (A Spirit from Him)**: Jesus was **given life by Allah’s command**. It does not mean he is a part of Allah, but that his soul was directly created by Him.

4. *Rejection of the Trinity:*
- The verse states, **“Do not say ‘Three’ (ثَلَاثَةٌ)”**, directly rejecting the concept of the Trinity.
- It emphasizes that *Allah is One (Tawheed)* and far above having a son.

5. *Allah's Sovereignty:*
- Everything in **the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah**, reinforcing His **absolute power and oneness**.

6. *Conclusion – Believe in One God & His Messengers:*
- The verse calls for *faith in Allah and all His messengers* (including Jesus and Muhammad).
- It *disassociates Jesus from divinity* while still affirming his **high status as a prophet**.

### *Islamic Perspective on Jesus (Isa,
- *Not Divine:* Islam *rejects the idea of Jesus as the son of God* and emphasizes monotheism (Tawheed).
- *Miraculous Birth:* He was born of *the Virgin Mary* by Allah’s command, but without a father.
- *A Prophet and Messenger:* Sent to guide the Children of Israel with the **Injeel (Gospel)**.
- *Not Crucified:* The Qur'an states that Jesus was *not crucified but raised to Allah* (Surah An-Nisa 4:157-158).

### *Summary*
- Jesus is *not divine* but a **messenger, a word from Allah, and a spirit from Him**.
- *The Trinity is rejected,* emphasizing that *Allah is One.*
- **Allah is above having a son**, and everything belongs to Him.

Jesus is a Greek/spanish derivative. His name would’ve been Isho - in Aramaic ! Which is Jesus native language . And a proper translation in Arabic would have been isa !

Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus look up towards heaven and prayed. Jesus said, Father, glorify "Your Son" that the Son may glorify You (John 17:1).

Jesus said, For My Father's will is that everyone who believes in the Son shall have eternal life and I will raise them up at the last day (John 6 :40). So whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life. For God's wrath remains on them (John 3 :36).

While Allah of Muhammad and Islamic Jesus (Issa) is NOT called the Father to anyone (read Surah 19 :88-92). According to Quran, it is not appropriate to the Most Merciful that He should take a son (read Surah 19 :92).

Questions. Do Muhammad and the Quran believe that Jesus is the Son of God?

Do Muhammad and the Quran believe that God is called the Father?

Around 21 to 23 minute you talked the term Messiah in arabic and in jewish and christian historicity. But i think Quran demystified it in 1 verse in where it mentioned that Messiah was the name of the Jesus and he is not the Messiah with regard to the attributes the Jews were looking for. Surah 3, verse 45.
So is the concept around Messiah is correct and who is the correct Messiah, thats another debate and it is also demystified in Quran...

This is typical apologetic non-sense to sow enmity and hate, "Muslims worship a different God, Moses is not Musa, Abraham is not Ibrahim, Jesus is not Isa, Islam is from Palmyra, there was no Kaba, there was no Mohamad," etc, etc, etc."
These are silly Orientalist attempts to make Islam the "Other", as the scholar Dr. Edward Said wrote.
Islam came from the same millieu of these related religions, and from the closest region and language, and from actual blood relatives, and has a lot more understanding and relationships with these religions than the Orientalist West and Hellenistic Romans, who couldn't understand a thing about Jesus, or the Torah, or monotheism, or prophecy.
