Meh. I’ve never seen travel insurance cover something seamlessly. Last episode was my mom needing to cancel a trip to South America. It was a very, very active trip and she started having back issues. Went to a doctor and got the recommendation to not go. Got the necessary paperwork and submitted it. They denied it because it was from an urgent care doctor.
Ok well that wasn’t in their paperwork that they needed a certain kind of doctor. So they didn’t cover anything. She didn’t go because like I said, super active trip with rafting and hiking and having bad back issues would’ve kept people behind as it was a group trip.
No one ever needs insurance until they do and then it’s too late. That’s why even on our very first cruise we have always gotten insurance. It just takes one misstep to land you in medical or the hospital.
Shoutout to him though. It’s rare to see someone in this situation accept personal responsibility and not blame the cruise line. It’s even more impressive that this was a Carnival guest. 🤯
My parents were on a Caribbean cruise 18 years ago and my dad had a major medical emergency as they arrived at Cozumel, Mexico. He was admitted to hospital and in intensive care for 5 nights. My mum called me and I called their travel insurance and sent over all their documents. Thankfully, he pulled through and insurance paid for them to stay the night at a 5* hotel and fly business class back home to the UK. Im already risk adverse but I never travel without insurance.
ОтветитьI consider cancellation to be self-insurable. The money you save not buying it will pay for it when you do have cancellation costs. HOWEVER, med evac, repatriation and medical expenses are too high to self-insure and this is the insurance type I purchase.
ОтветитьVery important lesson here.
ОтветитьI’m doing the jazz cruise next month and I made sure I put insurance on it!
ОтветитьI reluctantly bought insurance for concert tickets. Then my wife and I got sick two days before the show. I got all my money back, including reserved parking! I always buy it now.
ОтветитьGet the insurance because sheet happens
ОтветитьEveryone may not have this as an options, but if someone has a travel credit card, they should book the trip on said card rather than paying for travel insurance. Most, if not all, premium travel cards offer great trip protections. If paying an annual fee credit card isn’t for you, then I would most definitely get travel insurance.
ОтветитьI always add Insurance for any trip, came in handy during the first Covid cancellations as I got full refunds.
ОтветитьGet insurance, travel with a passport, and book excursions with the cruise. Also, know the exclusions from your insurance policy. None provide coverage if you are neglectful, participating in risky activities/behavior, or acting foolish.
ОтветитьI agree you MUST get insurance! However, be aware that you also must understand something else. They don't tell you that it's 3'rd party insurance. That means you have to pay any medical bills you incur as well as other bills mentioned here. I just learned this in December 2024. The 3'rd day into a 16-day cruise to Hawaii became a nightmare!!! I ended up in the ships medical bay. I checked myself out of medical after two and ahalf days. At which time I was presented with medical disembarkation papers and a bill for 9,000.00 + to be paid within 10 days of end of the cruise😳
I was forced to be taken by ambulance to the hospital in Honolulu, where I spent all day in ER getting MRI's, CT scans, Xrays and multiple other tests. Thousands more dollars I don't have. Fast forward, I was able to get a "Fit to Sail" clearance from the doctors and hospital. Princess was pretty much forced to let me continue the cruise. We lost the $ pd for our Honolulu excursion for 3 people. It was supposed to be my bucket list dream vacation, which turned into the cruise from hell😥
Soooo much more to this but the point is get insurance (we did) but read the fine print. YOU pay the bills, then fight with 3rd party insurance to get your money back.
Insurance is scam as well. I know 2 people who booked cruises with insurance and didn't get all there money and 1 person found out they had cancer sent everything they asked for and didn't get their money back.
ОтветитьIf I had already booked a cruise (coming up in May) but have not bought the plane tickets or insurance yet.. would that be something you could help me with @Jshiplife? Tickets to CA are EXPENSIVE from where I am right now... i wonder if a deal is still possible (never booked anything with an agent before)
ОтветитьWell…this was sobering and really brought the point home. Hope he’s doing alright and healing well.
ОтветитьNice guy, sorry he had to cancel, best of luck on your surgery Sir.
Ответитьdamn.... Just me, but I would have postponed the surgery. (unless life threating that is) Never bought Ins (yet) Luckily everything has always worked out.
ОтветитьI learned my lesson too and this was a relative that passed a day before our cruise so we had to cancel the trip and lose $3k as well.
ОтветитьKeep in mind something could happen to a family member which may prevent going on a trip. Stuff happens! Like I always say about travel insurance: Better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it!
ОтветитьI begged Princess to stay on the ship, she refused and died from a heart attack. We have a dead body on board.
ОтветитьHere's my dilemma. I live in New York and Carnival does not offer trip insurance for New York residents. Is there a way to get around that?
I've been on multiple Carnival cruises and haven't had an issue. We just booked our next cruise on Celebration and just as before, insurance isnt offered for NY residents
Edit: just got to the end of the video and heard him say there are companies outside the cruise line that offer insurance. Gonna research them
I am so glad we have annual travel insurance.
ОтветитьMedical emergencies should be exemption
ОтветитьYou could have a medical emergency, or a family member could die. Get insurance.
ОтветитьGet a credit card with trip cancelation insurance. Worth it.
ОтветитьI’ll definitely book insurance on any cruise for sure. Good video. And change that damn smoke alarm battery lol
ОтветитьMan. I've always bought the trip insurance just in case. Now I understand why.
ОтветитьSometimes your credit card offers trip interruption insurance when you use it to pay for your trip.
ОтветитьI don’t I don’t know how many times this has to be told to cruisers… Always by the freaking insurance. You never know what’s gonna happen and it may not be your fault but by the insurance. It’s not that expensive.
ОтветитьI'm a retired travel agent. I always encouraged my clients to purchase travel insurance. The insurance is there if needed for a sitution like this. I cruise two times a year and alway purchase insurance thur a third party insurance company. Sadley I don't feel the least bit sorry for this traveler.
ОтветитьMan this is a bad take from you
Ответить2 grand ain't that much. I make that and even more in a day on my stocks
ОтветитьI always get trip insurance. I'm from NY and I can't get it through the cruise line, so I get it on my own. It generally costs me around 75.00 which covers my air, hotel and cruise. Folks, the 75.00 or so is so worth it. Don't do it to yourself
ОтветитьCruises are a filthy ripoff. They're deal compared to hotels because they don't pay income taxes and hire the destitute and otherwise unemployable from every corner of the world. Then they gouge you on food and drink. Avoid at all costs, then you need no insurance.
ОтветитьI kinda want to send him some money just because he has such a great attitude!
ОтветитьIf he paid the trip with a credit card, he might get some refund from them. Usually it includes travel insurance.
ОтветитьThat is one thing I always get!!!
ОтветитьAlways for cruise and airfare
ОтветитьThe trip insurance nowadays has so many conditions, more than likely it would NOT fully reimburse him. Trip ir travel insurance is NOT a guarantee.
ОтветитьPlot Twist : this guy sells travel insurance and is gonna make $$$$$
ОтветитьBig dummy. Please donate to the big dummy gofundme
ОтветитьLet's be real. Even having insurance, after all the bs fineprint and exclusions prob would have gained 500 bucks.
ОтветитьHope he recovers well from his surgery
A silver lining I guess
American Express has great travel insurance. Really great.
ОтветитьI book my cruise insurance with USAA and they have great coverage.
ОтветитьI just got trip insurance for our week long honeymoon cruise. You just never know
ОтветитьThe thing with buying trip protection is that people ONLY think about health problems. They never think that they can fall on the street and break a leg, or the suitcases get lost forever and they never get them back, or the flight is delayed and/or cancel and they never make it to the ship departure place. If your cruise is $500 maybe you don't want to pay extra for insurance, but a $3000 and up cruise??? I would definitely purchase insurance for that. I am a travel agent and I always send my clients the list of things that are covered by the protection. If after that they insist in not buying it, then I am in peace that I shared it with them.
ОтветитьI carry a yearly Allianz policy, I buy the cruise companies insurance and often the airline insurance especially if it’s an expensive flight. That way I’m covered all around. Even if one denies the other will pick up the cost .
Carnival wouldn’t give you a cruise credit ?
No excuse, the yearly policy is $136 . That’s cheap for a year. I do the ship so they are responsible for me onboard if something happens.
