How To Get a C-33 Painting License - Complete Step By Step California Contractor Licensing Roadmap!

Quick question, I’ve worked under my father for a number of years I’m 20 years old, the problem is that he doesn’t have social security and it’s not technically a legitimate job for him. Although we have worked for contractors who we’ve painted numerous houses for over the years. My question is that who would be able to sign off on my experience, I know for a fact my father knows I’ve had lots of experience including sanding, tape prepping, paste patching, brush and roller painting, caulking, machine spraying, and drywall patches etc etc. the thing is that idk if he’d be considered a business associate. The contractor has also seen me work w him for a number of years so I’m sure he’d be able to but it’s just a question. Also in the process of receiving this license will I be taught more skills I could utilize? Bc to be completely honest I know a whole lot but what this video mentioned caught me off guard and have never heard of. Thank you!

I’ve read that you can use a degree to knock off 3 years of experience. Is this true and does a community college degree count or is it just bachelors?

On basic requirements what does 4 years “full time” really mean?? Will u need proof you been working with a company working & getting pay checks? I’m 25 years old young & been bouncing around painting company’s here & there? I want my own Business my own company! I’m currently just working with a guy I met that has his license & gives me work I’m his handyman helper... he’s paying me cash! Will that affect my process to applying?

Does anybody know of a good study guide book I can read to study for the test? Any help will be appreciated Thank you.

It is all very helpful, but it is still unclear to me, whether I need first an exam and then an application or the other way around. And finally, where and how to file the application? Googling didn't help much. There are tons of instructions but no clear place to do the application. Which forms and where to submit them?

Also worth noting- The state of CA banned the box in 2019 or 2017. Either way public agencies can’t ask about criminal history on the application. So it’s not required to declare all
Charges. But once the live scan comes back they’ll see anyways. I have two dui convictions and a federal weed conviction all from 10 years ago. I disclosed in detail my entire criminal history to hopefully expedite my application.
