TLA: Temporary Lodging Allowance
Allowance for active duty service members that cover meals and incidentals, & lodging while occupying temporary lodging facility (TLF) overseas… not to exceed your maximum allowable rate aka per diem rate.

Military members need to aggressively search for a long term rental within the initial 60 days of staying in a TLF. After the initial 60 days, you must have TLA extensions approved.
TQSA: Temporary Quarters Supplementary Allowance
Non-taxable supplement for civilian employees traveling to/from an overseas duty location on official travel orders.
If eligible for Living Quarters Allowance (LQA), you are authorized TQSA for up to 90 days for temporary lodging including meals and incidentals like laundry/dry-cleaning expenses.
When do youyou get it?
- TLA is available when you’re arriving or departing overseas
- TQSA is granted for up to 90 days (in 30 day increments) after your arrival at the overseas duty station. You may request an advance of these funds or reimbursement of expenses.
How do you use TLA?
- Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC or just GTC) to pay for Temporary lodging and other authorised purchases
- Make sure you have money on the GTC and keep all your receipts for authorised Reimbursement
