Runescape Doesn't Need Nostalgia

but Nostalgia is my number 1 playing reason

Nostalgia made me make an account again after 20 years, but the gameplay loop is why it's now level 87

I never played this game as a kid and im now about 6k hours deep or so and its probably not stopping any time soon. Nostalgia was never a factor for me and it didnt need to be. The game holds up on its own.

Asmongold is one of the dumbest and most smooth brained individuals that a whole buncha people listen to for some reason.

i started playing eoc runescape again. and i realised. all things where ruined when the eoc update came. they never shouldve switch to a updated runescape with different versions. they should just give players the option to switch to oldschool graphics. and focus more on keeping the osrc things accurate and the same price worth in the rs economy. 110.000 players play osrs everyday. and only 15.000 play eoc rs everyday. so yeah, jagex messed up pretty bad. i got attached to my old account. i dont want to lose that, and to be honest my runescape prime was in 2008-2010. so osrc is a bit too oldschool for me. i missed the things i had when playing the game. so osrc is too basic. and eoc rs is inflated and only maxed players still play. jagex doesnt really care. im sure all of you will disagree with me... but this is just what i think after coming back to the game. both are not the game i want to play fully sadly. ah yes i googled it, i mean runescape hd in 2008! much better than osrc 2007... so yeah my point is, there should be only one good runescape... not multiple versions. runescape 3 eoc is very dead. i just cant enjoy osrc because it isnt the same as loved back in the day when i started. im sure this comment will get alot of hate.

i started osrs actually two is months ago. ive played over the years not getting out of lumbridge until two months ago and i love the game. no nostalgia for me just enjoy the game and hanging with the bro farming or what ever it may be

The game wouldn't be around for anyone to play today if it weren't for nostalgia. People that say "I'm a new player so it can't be because of nostalgia!" are only able to be a new player because of nostalgia.

I don't even get why there's a lot of contention around a talking point like this. It's perfectly fine to acknowledge that OSRS is heavily supported by nostalgia, and that without it the game quite literally would not exist today.

There are MULTIPLE generations of players even within rs3. There ARE new players. Most of you, 90 percent, havent played near as long as me. There are people who started 10 years ago, 20, 5, 2, yesterday, and are still playing. So the nostalgia thing is so weird.

Old school doesnt have 140k active players (lets say 70 cause bots) on an average Tuesday, because nostalgia. Thats DUMBBBBB. Lol. If that was the case, soooo many old games would be huge.

RS3 is lacking character. EOC, New Graphic&Audio, lack of environment LMB description (in RS2 every damn grass had a description), all that has changed to a characterless, average MMO. Horrible shareholders and MTX pushers have no idea about games and they should be banned from the gaming industry.

I literally played this in 2019 and I dont feel abit nostalgic for it. It's a relaxing fun game

As a kid i got my parents to buy me WoW because it seemed like RuneScape with better graphics, but after about a month i found myself going back to RuneScape exclusively. Couldn’t beat the simplicity

Nostalgia for me was mining iron and rune essence in f2p, and i still got some nostalgia hits when i started out but it's not why any of us stayed. It's simply just a good game with a great community and fresh content being developed on the regular.

OSRS is the closest thing to an ideal MMORPG situation even with all of it's flaws. I have nostalgia for the game but only for the F2P areas since I was too poor for a sub.

Its hilariously ironic that asmongold even tried to say that the driving force of runescapes continuing success is nostalgia.. when notoriously he continues to play a game that he and an entire playerbase endlessly bicker and cry about every new update or expansion not being like the "Old WoW days".

Literally have a conversation with any WoW player and 9/10 times it will include "i remember back in 'said expansion'-". asmongold never has anything good to say.

Old school and runescape are both excellent sandbox experiences that don’t really exist elsewhere besides a few like mabinogi. I have my nitpicks sure but it gives me what I want, an endless grind that isn’t too involved lol

I do generally agree that OSRS is doing a lot of things right and has earned its success but this was a somewhat poorly communicated video.

Just repeating your thesis over and over doesn't really make it more convincing, and your points were... that people made custom game modes within the bounds of the game and the devs worked hard to implement polled content were kind of just breezed through. But the video makes claims like if the game came out today it'd be successful, or how the game respects your time, or that there's a litany of things that other games should learn from OSRS but that won't be explored right now, that kind of ring hollow and are just true because you think so.

I think OSRS has a certain simple game play and stylized designed that makes it timeless and the whole reason why people wanted OSRS and not RS3 was because Jagex remaking the wheel with RS3 diluted what people were already satisfied with. I prefer Zelda Wind Waker and Team Fortress 2 to Twilight Princess and [insert current team shooter] not because of nostalgia but because of the simple gameplay and unaging stylized design. Claiming otherwise is like saying we eat sandwiches just for nostalgia and not because it just hits a spot other foods don't.

I grew up in Russia and never even seen Rune Scape. As a kid I played WoW. A couple of years ago was the first time I even knew Rune Scape exists. Now I am doing a challenge playthrough xd
