My old Magic runs Magic Missile 5 darts with a first level slot.
Your new magic missile can run 5 darts requiring 3rd level slot.
Also I would have 5 first level slots without any tweaks or addons.

The old magic might look archaic to some but with 2 gestures and one somatic component I can cast spells new magic needs 3 different tomes open to even start casting

My favourite headcannon for stories I make up;

That's why I join the penguin church and use their magic, yes it goes hard on the arcane knowledge requirements, but after you sorted that out, you get access to the most powerful magic available, I've seen orbs doing thing I though it wasn't possible thanks to the penguin church's magic

I remember when the magic was access orb, select spell, immolate uppity tavernkeeper. Now I need to remember which sub-orb the spell is even in out of the several I need for every spell, none of which play well with each other. Then I need to wait for updates to both the sub-orb and the actual spell while praying neither breaks. And then, many spells have the gall to demand connecting to another system to verify I actually have the spell.

Until new staves can run baromancy, i'm sticking to old reliable

You’ll be surprised how much of the new magic depends on a few old janky glyphs as ground work. If those spells ever broke down, everything is gone.
