The Solomon-and-the-baby analogy sounds like it might carry over to the land issue, but it really, really doesn't. One key thing is that cutting the baby in half would kill it, i.e. no-one gets a baby. Whereas countries or other lands can be divided, and the result is that each party just gets a smaller country or smaller piece of land. So the position of the mother who wants the baby sliced is entirely different to the position of a two-state solution supporter! The other dis-analogy is that I have never heard the Palestinians (or the Israelis for that matter) say "It must be one country from the river to the sea, so if the two-state solution is the most we can get... we'd actually rather give all of it to the other side"!

Regarding the Muslim scholar: I find it presumptuous and frankly insulting and that you'd present a Muslim scholar as advising Israeli Jews as to how they should regard their own relationship to their country, their claim on the land, and/or how religiously they should view that connection. It doesn't matter how well a religious perspective might play in the Arab world: It isn't any Muslim scholar's business to tell secular Israelis that they need to be more religious. Nor your business either.

That's not the reason. The real reason is simple: the Palestinians are objectively oppressed. That's all there is to it.
