This is slightly puzzling because while the weather report says hurricane force winds (force 12), the sea state is only "very rough", which is 4 - 6m and the seas expected with force 7. Above "very rough" are high, very high and phenomenal. The latter (over 14m/46 feet) is expected with force 12, with sea conditions being "air filled with foam and spray, sea completely white with driving spray, visibility very seriously affected." Looks like you got off lightly!
ОтветитьEnjoyable! That row of window seats on Deck 3 forward is such a great place to hang out and watch the sea. It's always a thrill when they reach eye level...or above!
I was aboard QM2 on her early June 2017 westbound transatlantic crossing, when she was diverted to rescue the stranded solo yachtsman Mervyn Wheatley. We had just passed through a major Atlantic depression which generated very high seas and strong winds. Crew members said it was the worst conditions they'd seen in ten years. The ship's pitch and roll motions were pretty substantial at times- passengers walking the passageways did so weaving side to side and bumping walls! But she is designed for this duty, and is manned by an exceptional crew.
imagine queen mary 2 is a white star line
ОтветитьIf a lightsaber was a weapon for a more civilized time than the same is for ocean liners
ОтветитьWhen stormy seas upset your equilibrium, Zofran is your friend.
ОтветитьYou had a stateroom on deck 12?
Ответитьdoesn't look too bad really
ОтветитьGreat video,keep it up!'.
ОтветитьI am in the initial phase of research for my 2022 or 2023 bucket list QM2 solo transatlantic adventure and haven't decided on a time of year yet. I was thinking of doing a December crossing, but am afraid that a storm like that would remind me of The Posiden Adventure.
ОтветитьThat row of window seats forward on Deck 3 is one of my favorite spots on QM2.
ОтветитьIt’s incredible to see the difference in how an ocean liner such as the QM2 handles these weather conditions compared to the likes of your standard 4K passenger top heavy cruise ship! It looks like it was a comfortable trip despite the weather!
ОтветитьI was on a Celebrity cruise ship when an early Nor’easter blew in and produced similar seas. It was the last New England East Coast cruise of the year. The Captain promptly headed into safe harbor at Nova Scotia to ride out the storm. I never felt threatened, but would have felt safer on a ship like QM2.
ОтветитьGot an opportunity to see this Majestic Ship Queen Elizabeth II when she birth in Honolulu Harbor. I was a teenager then. About 2 weeks later she was painted Haze Gray and underway to the Falkland Islands.
She is a beautiful stately ship.
God bless the ship's crew of SS Queen Elizabeth II.
I’ve been on the QM2 in conditions similar to this for one day of the trip, NY to Southampton. It was mildly uncomfortable but this video definitely does NOT show hurricane conditions. Having said that the QM2 is a fine ship. It’s the only way to go in my humble opinion.
ОтветитьAnchored at Torquay for months
Ответитьit is not storm it is nothing
ОтветитьI so miss being at sea in this kind of weather: awesome!
ОтветитьThat's not what I call a proper force 12. It's got the wind, but not the waves. Not that i'm a believer, but a proper force 12 is like the hand of god.
ОтветитьThe ship was stable in storm because she is passenger ship.
ОтветитьI did a south Atlantic Crossing on the Queen Mary two Christmas sofa Lantic crossing from Southampton to New York then onto the Caribbean then back to New York City and then back to Southampton we ended up hitting a major storm at sea all the way to New York City and then coming back from the Caribbean to New York City we hit a major snowstorm that totally shut down New York City this was in 2012 to 2013 but it was a holiday I will never forget I don’t think I would ride the Queen Mary two again it was a bit Hootie tutti for me too posh not my cup of tea but it was an amazing holiday I will never forget thank you Cunard
ОтветитьRomantic 😂💖💪
ОтветитьOne of the most stability ship.
ОтветитьI agree fedora. Ocean liners > Cruise ships. Love the queen mary 2. Most beautiful ship in the world.
ОтветитьNever want to see QM 2 get scrapped be it 20 years from now. Too beautiful to be dragged and cut up like ocean liner SS FRANCE (Norway) was iin 2006 in Alang.
ОтветитьI wonder what it would look like in one of the glass elevators towards the front of the ship
ОтветитьJust like in pilot instrument training. Rely on instruments and not your body senses. The ocean liner won't fail you and instruments won't fail you.
ОтветитьI’ve been through one of those in the Pacific aboard the USS Juneau (LPD-10) crossing from Sasebo Japan 🇯🇵 to San Francisco CA 🇺🇸. We had 4 helicopters 🚁 on the flight deck and were chained down,
ОтветитьI’ve never done Cruise before, but I would probably prefer the Ocean Liners instead.
ОтветитьBlows my mind how explorers in 16th centuries etc coped with those weather conditions in their tiny boats.
ОтветитьI sailed on her last December coming home from Europe though a force 9/10 gale. The ship was very sturdy and you felt almost nothing mid ship....but I felt the swells in my cabin in the bow of the ship...I loved it!
ОтветитьThey should start building more ocean liners instead of cruise ships!
ОтветитьAll things considered, it is amazing that the ocean is so powerful to move this giant 150,000 tons ship.
ОтветитьThat's not force 12, 6-8 maybe.
ОтветитьI would be the woman sitting at the window. To see the Atlantic first hand in a hurricane, gliding through it... that is an incredible thing to get the chance to see.
ОтветитьThis type of storm is what the Anthem of the Sea’s had to deal with and and QM2 had know trouble at all an had no damage.
But she was built very strong as a Ocean Liner not a cruise ship.
This ocean liner made to handle strong hurricanes storms.
ОтветитьQueen Mary 2 handled her sesellf great during this bad hurricane force winds I noticed we not loss anything but this is what she was built to handle!
ОтветитьI wish there were more ocean liners vs cruise ships. I would feel much more secure traveling in all weather conditions.
ОтветитьNo where near hurricane seas or wind .
Hurricane force winds
60 knots plus . Force 12 beaufort .
Sea state goes up from rough to very rough , then high !
So much better than on those rediculous floating hotel resorts. She is a true ocean going vessel. I have crossed the Atlantic on my 44’ sailboat. Been in force 8. Also have crossed on a Carnival ship and the Wind Star small sailing cruise boat/yacht. Love it all. But for comfort and safety, id take the QM 2!
ОтветитьWhy us the whole ship so quiet lol
ОтветитьI suppose it's worth enduring only if the Caribbean part of the cruise promises calm seas, romantic sunsets, lots of booze and platefuls of posh grub.
ОтветитьThat was eye opening, wow..
ОтветитьI have personally been on the QM2 during a force 9 wind (one notch below hurricane strenght). We sat in the Britannia dining room and enjoyed a very pleasant dinner, no real diffenece from a calm sea. Done 5 crossings. The ship is just amazing!
ОтветитьBest time to travel on Queen Mary 2 is summer and spring if possible.
ОтветитьThanks for the video. Windy, but the waves looked rather insignificant. No 100 foot waves there. Still, If I took a trip w the QM2, I'd do it in the winter so the weather would be interesting, esp since the ship does not stop at any interesting ports along the way.
ОтветитьThis is what differentiates an ocean liner from a cruise ship. In bad weathers cruise ships are supposed to stay in harbors but ocean liners keep on steaming.
ОтветитьIf you're going to be on a ship during rough seas, you want to be on the Queen Mary 2. It's one of most stable ships out there.
ОтветитьMy húsband went from South Hampton tó New York in a storm they had tó shelter in the Azores.
