How does this guy find all this valuable stuff?

I went to a big 10 college. I had an artist friend that would always dumpster dive behind apartment buildings at the end of each semester. He constantly found antiques. Dinning room sets, clothes dressers, china etc.
Students would move out and leave everything. Particularly med students.
He would sell most, but kept a lot of the antique furniture for himself and wife. His house was full of good and high quality antiques.
