The Idol of the Air Lanes. Not air 'waves'.
ОтветитьAlso....it seems to me Garber bought out Freddy Large's band in the 30s....the Freddy Large featured in solo on this clip.
ОтветитьYou are correct. It was originally called "The Large Brothers Orchestra."
ОтветитьMy wife and I were one of the dancing couples on this show. I would like to have a copy, of this COMPLETE video. Please send me an e-mail.
ОтветитьTo the owner of this complete video, I will pay $50 for a copy. Since it brings back memories, of me dancing on the floor, call me at 1-520-616-9266
ОтветитьROY, My apologies for this late response. Please email me at [email protected] in regards to Richard, my dad. I would like to handle this for him. He wants the copy or I guess I can figure out how to get the digital copy from you. Hes 82 and the concept of digital anything is foreign. THANKS!!!!!!!
ОтветитьBack in the 50s Jan Garber was featured frequently at the Cavalier Beach Club.....dancing under the stars......he was always a favorite, along with Joe Sudy, Russ Morgan, Tony Pastor, and Dick Jergens.
ОтветитьJan Garber was a nephew of my Grandmother Lilly Mae Garber (Her maiden name). All I knew was that he had an orchestra. I had no idea how popular he was. When I worked at a radio station in 1980's, I was given a very old record he made. That was the first time I remember hearing his music, but it did't sound anything like this! This music is wonderful. Any more info would be appreciated. Thank you. email: [email protected]
ОтветитьWhat a great sound with that sax,one of the real reasons I like Guy Lombardo but this guy is a good runner up.
ОтветитьI could dance all night sappy but true!!!! thank you
ОтветитьGreat Music and performance. I can't stop replaying the Java portion with Ted Bowman.
Can you re upload this video in its origianal 4x3 aspect ratio?
There is even one dislike to this. Amazing !!!!
ОтветитьIs there anyway to get a download of this or a copy? Jan Garber was one of my father's favorite bands and he is 92 now.
ОтветитьI have a friend here in Lincoln, Nebraska that used to write the monthly "Garber Gabbling" and is writing a book about the band leader. He has a weekly "Big Band" radio program on KZUM every Monday morning.
ОтветитьLove Letters was probably Garbers best number. And Freddie Large is terrific on it.Great tone.
ОтветитьGarber was even cornier than Lombardo and that's going some! but the band was so popular for decades it was a class act.
Ответитьthe person that l care for played in the band and his sister song in the band all so.good sounding band
ОтветитьGreat remembrance of the days of the big bands. It was a fun time
ОтветитьI had a Jan Garber record on while I was talking to someone on the phone, and he asked me "What's that Little Rascals music?"
ОтветитьLove these older bands beautiful thanks for posting
ОтветитьI would nominate that performance as one of the iconic solos in all of the Big Band Era. Makes one wonder how many times over his career, Freddie performed that song.
ОтветитьHe sounds like Guy Lombardo
ОтветитьMy Dad worked at Fairyland Ballroom in Dewitt, Iowa outside Chicago in the 50"s and 60's. In 1965 I was in High School and he started taking me along because I played trumpet, and I loved big band music. Jan Garber played a couple times a year and the place was packed. There was just nothing like that saxophone line of his in a ballroom setting. I never got into the Beatles etc., but my how I loved this music. Great memories.
ОтветитьLombardo had great disdain for Garber for imitating him so closely,he also felt some what the same for the Kaye outfit as well
ОтветитьDid Garber buy Lombardo's song arrangement rejects?
ОтветитьI was named afterJan Garber, but never heard him until recently. He was my dads favorite. I like his big band, but not so much the 20's and 30s'. by the way, I am 73, fought the name Jan and went by David. now that medicare has kicked in I am Jan again
ОтветитьThat's my Uncle Frank on bass who also did arrangements for the Garber band!!
ОтветитьDoes anyone know where this was filmed? It is such a treasure to have a film of this duraton from the mid-60s. Who filmed it - and where?
ОтветитьBands will come and go, with a few remaining popular posthumously...Jan Garber’s records are among those I’d take to that desert island...
ОтветитьI am so glad to have come across this video. In the 1950s I danced twice to this band at the Val Air ballroom in Des Moines.
This music may be corny to today's young people, but for those of us that grew up on this music, it is priceless. When I hear the music, old memories come rolling back. I like it.
I have just recently gotten interested in this type of music and found some Jan Garber vinyl records and enjoy his work.
ОтветитьWhy not a single solo shot of a very active piano player?
ОтветитьTed Bowman senior was the nicest man. Very cool to see this. He used to make me tea and toast
ОтветитьExcellent with very good interesting video
ОтветитьPure perfection.
ОтветитьIt sounds an awful lot like Guy Lombardo
ОтветитьGarber was the only band so hugely popular but never had a hit song. Isn't that weird. You can mention any band and come up with a song but not Jan. Who cares he's rightfully in the Big Band hall of fame!!!!!!
ОтветитьI went there twice. around 1959. PS I meant The melody mill Ball room. outside of Chicago on the south side.
ОтветитьFreddie Large is obviously is an excellent musician, and so is Ted Bowman. But I will quote Guy Lombardo now regarding bands like this who tried to copy him. They moaned and groaned like we never did.And that made us sound cheap.
ОтветитьAt 91 this brings back so many memories of Jan and the band, we followed them to all of the ballrooms. In those days our parents didn't have baby sitters and we went with them. It all started on Catalina Island that we became just good friends. At this age names are missing, but Freddie Large and I believe his brother, Jack Barrows on trombone and Frtiz Heilborn on trumpet, "Muddy" on drums. When Daddy died Jan cancelled his tour for the band to be there to support Momma. This was in the '30s and '40s.
ОтветитьThis may be a little controversial to some but this was originally the Freddie Large orchestra. He and Garber must have made some sought of arrangement.
ОтветитьJan Garber - the quintessential old trooper; he had a band longer than anyone!
Ответить👍 Great Music !!
ОтветитьJan always seemed like he was having a GREAT time making wonderful dance music....he and Guy Lombardo ...this is awesome ! I laid flowers at his and his wife's grave when I was in the area.....
