Why buy roosters compared to hens? I'm just starting. you people are so smart!!
ОтветитьSounds like the Cornish Cross birds may be better hunters?
ОтветитьI grew up on a chicken ranch... we never allowed them to go beyond six weeks and any bird that approached the size of your cornish were consigned to the soup pot or the stew pot and were not fried... they were much to tough and without any fat were much too dry... to each his own, for sure... but I don't understand your logic in feeding them that long... an ideal weight for our fryers was 3.5 lbs
ОтветитьYou're comparison work is so beneficial for all of us following along! Thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom! :D
ОтветитьGreat job folks!
ОтветитьWhat a fantastic job you guys did
God bless
How can you calculate free range food .
ОтветитьTo me it’s taste
If you want Cornish go to store.
Want a great taste freedom Rangers / or red Rangers.
On thing you can do with Rangers is keep a few to lay eggs and raise to get meat.
Can’t do that with Cornish cross .
Great work. Taste any different?
ОтветитьWow! Thank you!! I was thinking of getting Freedom Rangers but cost wise Cornish cross seems to be the way to go! Gonna watch the taste testing.
ОтветитьTy guys, great info
ОтветитьThank you very much for this info!
ОтветитьSo Cornish is much, much cheeper!
ОтветитьYour Goal was to get them to 10 week's ? Well, my nerdy chicken math says you made it if they're 10 AND A HALF weeks, lol Just sayin,LOL
ОтветитьDid you notice a difference in fat content between the hens, and cockerels?, That has always been my experience! The hens always have at least 30% more fat.
ОтветитьThank you for this video, this will help me a lot, I am from Guatemala and I will just adjust the prices. Blessings to you.
ОтветитьExcellent info, did your cornish cross forage at all...I want a chicken that eats some green...also a question on your wood stove, Is it effecient as well as beautiful and the brand and model if you would recommend it.
ОтветитьJust don't put all of your eggs in one pot--or basket.
ОтветитьYou are doing something different. . My rangers are all pushing 7 lbs at 8.5 weeks. And I'm under 20 lbs of per bird. Thank goodness too cuz its 30 bucks a fricken bag.
Ответить102 birds
ОтветитьTwo D.O.A one died later my fault. All males but got two hens by mistake. One failed to florish saved it took it inside nursed it and it us one that I won't kill cuz she follows me around and plays with the dog. Named her Sheldon cuz I didn't know she wasn't a rooster. Ill add up my receipts for feed and get back. But I think its strange we could have such a different experience. I have started killing a few to eat myself and can confirm on the fat. Killed 5 all 7+ pounds and dressed out at 5.5ish one at 5.But have you ever heard of Somalis? I love tge fat. Id like to confirm truth to the claim that its higher in omega 3. If so even better more fat
ОтветитьMine do actually free range.... could this be tge diffence??? I rely on my dog to protect them. They get let out onto to 3 achers every morning.
ОтветитьYou did a great job with this comparison. Congratulations on being thorough and straightforward..
ОтветитьThis was really helpful - we ended up ordering straight run as well.
ОтветитьLove your show. I have learned so much.I have a small veggie garden. Love watching your animals.
ОтветитьWow! Big difference between them!
CC’s for sure 🐣🙏
Great series! One of the most valuable qualities of your channel is how organized it is with your playlists. It's so easy to find what I want and helps peak interest in new areas. Great job, God be with your family
ОтветитьI would love to see you guys do the exact same comparisons with Cornish Cross Males vs Females, in two separate chicken tractors. :)
Then whoever wins, males or females, split two batches using dry food vs 3 day wet food.
Now that would be awesome :)
Great video :)
Sunshine, little chilly, snow, & snow melt!
Meat stay cold & No bugs! You can't beat that, except being finished & sitting in front on a nice fire🙂
The freedom rangers I raise take half the feed compared to the Cornish Cross Breed, because they are such better foragers as free range birds, but do weigh considerably less and take 1/3 longer. But I don’t have to buy chicks. Plus, I’m getting eggs and meat from the same breed.
My Plymouth Rock birds return same meat, but smaller breasted, take 1/3 longer and a lot of feed, but again, the breed is great for eggs, and they self breed as well.
No wrong answer here. I’m a grain farmer, and poultry is a big part of my fertility and pest control programs. Cover crops, grazing ruminate livestock, poultry, a cash crop, more cover crops, more grazing, more poultry. We’re doing this over 7000 acres in 2022. It is sheer madness quite frankly.
What an amazing job you two did!! 😮 Incredible!!! 👍🏻
Thank you SO MUCH for this comparison experiment 📝 You two ROCK!! 💪🏻
Thank you
ОтветитьAre Freedom Rangers meant to have much grain? Is that why they were fatty?
ОтветитьYour fcr is 6.63 for rangers... The consumer doesn't purchase the feathers and whatnot. It's more useful as a operator to know the sellable ratio feed here is 425 per 2000# polybag
Ответитьis it cheaper to raise chickens or buy chickens all ready processed in the store
ОтветитьI had the opposite happen my Cornish cross gained a ton of weight free ranging
ОтветитьWhen we raised Cornish Cross we normally kept the for at least 12 weeks and depending on the number I had to process we could keep them an additional couple weeks. At that time there was a lot of fat. It never bothered us since the chickens were the size of small turkeys, Soli Deo Gloria!
ОтветитьYou guys do a fantastic job 😊
ОтветитьExcellent video. No wasted time, well presented facts and figures...no uhms/ahhhs/ or 'likes'.
5 star. Thank-you.
Interesting, we are seeing the exact opposite here between our rangers and cornish. the Cornish plow through food, and the rangers are converting food to meat allot more efficient. We are doing both Soy free and soy containing feeds. the soy free birds are about a week behind in development.
ОтветитьThank you so much for doing this!!!! Butchering my Red Broilers at 12 weeks. One more week to go. I'm shooting for 5 lbs.
ОтветитьGreat information!
ОтветитьGreat comparison! We’re getting ready to order meat birds - we only need 25 for the year, for the 2 of us. So glad you did this. Cornish Cross we’re on our list and now it’s definite! I’ll also be getting a laying flick but….for my freezer, Cornish across it is! Thank you for doing this!
ОтветитьThank you for sharing this whole process!! I'm getting ready to start of flock of meat chickens soon. 👍👍
ОтветитьI know this is an old video but in your opinions which would do better free ranging and possibly keeping a breeding pair?
ОтветитьHow many total CC losses did y'all have? Or percentage?
ОтветитьWyandottes have that same issue where there is a “considerable amount of fat” inside the carcass.
ОтветитьTip, put a "magic heat" heat reclaimer on that wood stove behind you. You won't believe the gain.
ОтветитьI think folks are buying more Freedom Rangers because they can breed their own vs the cross cornish.
ОтветитьFreedom Ranger meat is healthier to consume. Nutrition content should be considered as well.
