The best of both worlds is currently the PHEV ..the most efficient vehicle in production in 2024 for the ACEEE , the “American Counsel for Energy - Efficient Economy” was a modern PHEV more efficient (since lighter) over the first fully electric 50 miles than the most efficient yet heavier BEV and then also more efficient for the next 550 miles than the most efficient ICE vehicle ( braking and downhill cinetic and potential energy recovery)
The politicians can play politics..the market decides and can be stupid once but does not get caught twice: an ICE engine it’s 12 gallons fuel tank and small 13.4 kWh durable and modern battery of such PHEV winner good for 600 miles weighs roughly HALF of an 250 miles autonomy battery pack..and smaller E motor is also lighter than on a BEV and the lack of a multiple ratios heavy gearbox with a Hybrid synergy drive power transfer gear is also a weight advantage over conventional manual of automatic iCE vehicle..game over 😂😂😂 technically rationally and economically !!!
