I went to school in the US and graduated high school in 1998. I was absolutely NEVER taught that Columbus was brave nor the first European to discover America. You're kind of judgmental dude, Simon.

It just shows that the skilled workers were not slaves. The Egyptians certainly had many slaves. We are not sure the Kensington Runestone is a hoax. It seems likely, but not for sure.

Also Giza was temperate at the time. The pyramids already existed. They were built to move water and provide power. Egyptians worshipped the incomprehensible design and thought gods made them. Look it up!

All this “revisionist” history about Columbus is such crap and pisses me off. As an American I was taught that Columbus accidentally discovered South America, that he thought it was India and that his ambition was fame and wealth (which was how all voyages were funded) you think the raping pillaging viking leaf Erickson wanted to be friends? Claiming “revisionist history “ regarding Columbus is revisionist history in itself. The other part that pisses me off are the lies swallowed by academia that he massacred thousands of American Indian. Where as there was trouble and he got greedy and mean at the end murdering some (still awful), the numbers of death is exaggerated by anti “colonialists” who are actually revising history. Whether he was the first European in South America or not, like Edison with the light bulb, he was the first to make it work.

This man needs to get off his high British horse and do some fact checking. Most educated westerners in Columbus' day accepted that the earth was round. It's well known he was looking for faster trade routes. I was taught this in the 80s, when we also learned about the previous visits to the Americas by the Vikings (In our textbooks that were printed well after the 60s).

The word neanderthal is from Neander valley in germany, the german word for valley is "tal", which has the archaic spelling "thal", the german language has no "th" sound, so the modern english pronounciation is a new "mutation", and the "correct" pronounciation "neandertal" is dying out.😅

If you really think about it. Given the immense importance your burial holds to an ancient Egyptian. Just the prospect of dying and being buried in such a holy place. It was probably a greater honor than for dying in war. So the workforce was probably easy to gather. Hell they probably turned a ton of Egyptians down. There may have even been a lottery or something.

I vaguely remember watching a documentary from the late great History Channel (from before it sold its soul) that there was a theory that we as humans bred the Neanderthal species to extinction. I think it said one species of women not sure of the exact combo so am making it up from here on out… human women body would accept the Neanderthal, but a Neanderthal woman’s body would reject a human baby.

Makes it sound bad but… what heard… kinda want to know if it’s actually a theory that is still in effect

But then again I gave up on the history channel two weeks later when they had a documentary on a real life dragon bones 🤪

The history of our evolution, in my humble opinion, is so incomplete that our "conclusions" are wrong by default.
Everyone is just accepting that one race/species just went right into the smart stuff… It's quite unbelievable… we should see a ton of failures, from the cats that mastered fired, to snakes with axes… yet we know of nothing even close.

I suspect that the human/canine partnership is a larger part of the explanation of why modern humans survived and Neanderthals did not than is currently understood. I'm not basing this on any science I've actually seen, just on the fact that dogs are so ubiquitous through human populations. This partnership was clearly incredibly important to humans.

There’s a reason Zahi is former minister, and that reason is alleged to be fraud, and abuse. I doubt he has ever actually discovered anything himself, as much as he stole credit from those he oversaw.

The bigger problem in schools today: it isn't the lack of history books written after 1960 .... it's the waste of time spent teaching revisionist narratives focused inordinately on identity politics & race/gender essentialism coupled with a desire amongst the powers that be to "deconstruct" everything and anything in the name of ideology. If they would simply focus on facts vs. trying to supplant old narratives with new ones (e.g. 1619 Project and the like), they'd have more time to devote to their actual jobs: teaching our children.
