A bit of history lesson to the curious non-Malaysians - these are Chinese Independent Schools, totally not run by Malaysian government because historically these schools are founded by the first generation of Chinese migrants in pre-independent Malaya so that their descendants/children in Malaya can be educated well enough and be ready to return to China once they have earnt enough money in Malaya. But sadly due to the political shift and civil war in China, almost all of the Chinese in Malaya cannot go back so they ended up settling in today's Malaysia. These schools still exist till today together with other government sanctioned schools and it becomes a sensitive topic or taboo among ethnic Malays. Mind you, the schools are funded by donations from the Chinese donors in order to survive, the government does not care about these schools' survival. The reason is they study a completely different education curriculum called UEC (United Examination Certificate) and not identical with the government's called SPM (O level equivalent) and STPM (A level equivalent). The government till today refuses to recognise UEC and will not allow these students to be admitted to public universities, leaving these students with little choice but to study in costly private universities or overseas like in Singapore or Taiwan. One possible reason is the insecurity because UEC is multiple times harder than the government education curriculum. Not all Chinese can afford to study in private or overseas universities, so they ended up studying BOTH UEC and SPM (and possibly STPM) to make sure they have more options after school. To sum up, it's not easy being an ethnic minority in Malaysia.

One more thing i would like to input to all of you who plan to come here to study and eventually find work in Taiwan, regardless of who you're, wether you're M'sian, Singaporean, Vietnamese, Indonesian or even Fillipino. You must really really study Traditional Chinese, not just the thing they teach in university, you must self taught the language, otherwise you graduate illiterate if you managed to.

Where do you get the statistic that 90% of Chinese Malaysian enroll at independent Chinese high school.

Well... If you talked about quota, you should talk about Singapore and try to buy a HDB flat if you're in the minority or look for work....😂😂

I don't think so as recent other reports say that Taiwan companies have suffered manpower crunch.. and still have lower wages, imperfect in rental apartments, workplace abused etc..
Also the exchange rate is still not promising

Also quite curious on where do they get the stats that Taiwan has high salary - I recall most Taiwanese prefer to be employers due to wage issues.

Many of these Malaysian Chinese students exploit free or cheaper education in Taiwan and then become PRC’s mouthpiece.. these people are not welcome.

Taiwan should ask them to sign a contract of not fiddling between cross-strait ties… afterall these people are foreigners and have no say in the future of Taiwan.

I am a native Malay and i try my best to send my children to overseas for studies too. The education system in Malaysia is just kuno and unequal and i do not want my kids to be brought up thinking they are more privileged than others just because they were born a malay and not indian or chinese. Sadly many here have such mindset and they discriminate and treat other races as second class citizens

But Malaysian Chinese use Simplified Chinese writing and Taiwan use Traditional Chinese writing. Taiwan Hokkien is totally different than Malaysia Hokkien (Penang, Sarawak and Klang). Also, does UEC syllabus as hard as Taiwan GSAT syllabus?

Man I wish I was Chinese. So many Chinese countries on the planet—Singapore, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, USA. I can go anywhere among these countries. “My people” are everywhere so I can survive anywhere. So privileged.

is ok, Malaysia like to import low skill labor and export a lot high skill talent to oversea, then they complain about the income inequality.
education inequality been here for decades but dont expect local U produced high quality talent. Most of the so call talent from local U are scrap and cant compete in private industry, thereafter end up in low grade public sector job or become tongkat.

No plans to go to Taiwan, I went to Germany instead.
Regardless, I strongly strongly encourage all Malaysians to leave the country. Remember, we are the so-called pendatang...so work hard, leave , and let's see "them" manage the country without us :)
