Fortnite went from a fun game to a straight cash grab

I personally like the new artstyle a lot! Its realistic and fit the kind of gritty for the underground theme of the rebellion. I think however this leaves Epic with a good point where they can mix and mash the realism parts that make the OG fortnite so recognizable with the new and updated models that have texture. I think the identity of the game has come a long way and that each of its changes has definitely improved on the last, even in the latest season. I do see that they are leaning more into the saturated artystyle more for the remix season and im really glad for that (also the reload maps and guns). The best world is the misture of the realism with the original goofiness fortnite had.

For me, sprint ruined the game

I think chapter 4 looked the best. It still looked like Fortnite and had nice colors while also having a bit of realism in it. If they brought back the chapter 1 art style with chapter 4's graphics the game would look perfect.

wow i was completely locked in while watching this video because i find it completely true that now fortnite just looks so generic and another problem with these new graphics is that it makes it harder to run on older hardware so graphics need to be cut down a ton (like on switch where it looks completely screwed)

I prefer the cartoony realism they use nowadays, really. It still feels like Fortnite to me, and the old art style is 100% overhyped by the relatively small group that cares, no offense. Chapter 5's style was good but a step in the wrong direction overall. Chapter 4 was when it peaked, looking like a natural progression of the art style and graphics.

I had mixed feelings about bullet drop and attachments, but they didn't make the game like Warzone, and I don't think we should do away with either of them before trying to improve them, something they barely attempted.

im an old head who remembers when battlepasses actually had a theme to them that were cool and comprehendible , and all of the skins were just the default characters in costumes. knights? spacemen? fake super heroes? hell yeah take me back to THAT fortnite.

I have played fortnite a few times throughout these years I install the game, play it for a few days or more, then uninstall it and wait for 2 or 1 years and do it all over again.

Og Fortnite especially during the Halloween season was just too fun. But then the game just became corporate and lost everything that made it amazing. Btw Fortnite really lost its charm after about season 4. It got more popular, but if you played from the start, that’s when the game started to just get old.

And then epic literally bought rocket league, got rid of trading, literally ruining all of the replay ability of the game, and genuinely killing it, just so that they expand Fortnite as a brand to get more…you guessed it, money

unfortunately its like with any other game, always starts off as a small project/idea then works out, makes a shit load of money, then the entire focus is just to capitalize for more money in the end. Hot take but collabs are the worst thing to ever touch fortnite, they're just copy pasted into the game and a simple easy cash grab that always works. They're just so out of place simply, and so unnecessary. The fortnite original skins are so much better.

Don't forget that the OG Fortnite still exists in save the world. They threw it under the battle bus but now it's a relic of what it originally was.

Great video man. Whenever I hop on Fortnite nowadays it just doesn't feel special anymore, like back in 2017 - 2019. I think this is probably a big reason why, even though I never really noticed these changes consciously before. Keep it up!

I also prefer how the older skins were just the defaults in costumes. The newer ones just suck. Same with only icon emotes

Well. It's been 8 years. Even fortnite is falling to the "back in my day" too.

when i first played fortnite in august 2017, none of my friends wanted to play obviously, and the old menu music along with solos and the art style made it such a surreal experience. thats why i hid in bushes.

i have played since chapter 2 and pretty much quit after halfway through chapter 3, only playing on and off for a few years, right now and season og are my most played time in fortnite since my verry beginning when the centre island of the chapter 2 map still had normal houses on it

POIs used to be much interesting. They had some story to it. While now they are just empty with nothing to look at. Only Doom Castle had really cool stuff there.

I think this applies to pretty much every aspect of the game. Imo the game fell off ever since Fortnite stopped trying to be Fortnite and is just a multiverse mish-mash of different properties, aesthetics, visuals, etc.
The game was a lot better when it wasn’t trying to be anything but itself.

All you have to do to for a visual example is look at the shop. Look at an image of the old skins and then go load up the shop on whatever day you’re reading this. It’s just collabs and generic looking UE models that could be ported into almost any game with some texture tweaks. The whole game is like that.

I have a few suggestions/complaints about changes that Fortnite could do to bring that original spark back. First and foremost, Epic should bring back their original art style that originally gave the game its spark and unique experience. Secondly, there should be less focus on collabs and more focus on originality in terms of skins. Third of all, there should be more effort put back into the storyline and ESPECIALLY the events. Lastly for the love of God, keep superpowers and special abilities in a separate LTM.

To put each of these suggestions/complaints into details:

1. Epic should bring back their older art style. The chapter 1 cartoony art style is what gave Fortnite its charm. There are plenty of alternative options for shooter games with realism. I'm not playing Fortnite for a realistic shooting experience. Making entirely new maps is a good thing but they shouldn't change the art style so drastically every season. It's fine to add some new props and add a little touch to the art style but the realism isn't something anyone asked for. That also goes for the guns, they look so bland and devoid of any creativity. Back in chapter one, I was excited at the thought that they would be adding some of the save the world guns to battle royale because they looked fun to use and had a unique look to them. The changes in art style were never the problem, it was the changes to realism that made the game feel more bland.

2. The past few battle passes have just felt so boring and repetitive. The battle passes don't feel the same anymore and it feels like most of the attention of the battle passes have been put on the collab skins. I don't ever find myself using the skins from the battle passes anymore. Idk if it's just me but it doesn't feel like the battle pass skins have their unique designs anymore. Another problem is the battle pass system. The battle pass doesn't feel as interactive as it used to be, you just get your skins and play the game. Overall, I think Epic should put more effort in the battle pass skins and system as a whole and take out the collab skins in place of more unique skins. They could probably find a different system for the collab skins rather than just lazily adding them to the battle pass.

3. The two biggest disasters in terms of events have been the final events of both chapter 4 and 5. First we got the final event of chapter 4 that took place in CREATIVE which is absolutely wild considering the fact that they have done events outside of the map that have still taken place in battle royale game modes. You would think that would've been the worst of it, but then they go and top it off by setting a new low with chapter 5s final event which was a live stream of a concert with an early showing of the chapter 2 remix season trailer that had no correlation to the main storyline. They set standards for Fortnite events so high with all of the chapter 1 and 2 events and most of all with the Travis Scott in game concert. The fact that the event took place 5 years ago and is still hands down one of the best Fortnite events to ever happen in the past 5 years is absolute insanity. The Fortnite events were such a highlight of the game was something to look forward to every season and I think they should put more effort in creating more memorable Fortnite events that people would actually want to tune into. Nobody wants to wait for a final chapter event just to be presented with Ice Spice twerking and Snoop Dogg talking about Fortnite gangsters on a projection screen.

4. Lastly, they should keep superpowers and abilities out of the main battle royale. This is not Overwatch or Valorant. I do not wanna shoot someone while watching them hit me with an onslaught of powers that ends my character in 2-3 hits. I don't have a problem with them adding superpowers or special melee weapons as long as they're added to a separate game mode. When I was playing Fortnite back in chapter 1, I never once found myself thinking "Man I wish I could have a pair of overpowered fists that let me destroy my opponent in 2-3 hits". The main enjoyment in the game has always been using the guns. Again, I'm not saying they should just never add anything different like superpowers or abilities to the game but at least leave it for a separate game mode. I think chapter 5 was the worst of it when making the superpowers common throughout the map. Like why is magneto's gloves a rare rarity when they were one of the most broken items in that season. It just takes the point of using guns away then the superpowers are just better to use. I think I would have a lot more fun using it in a gamemode where the main focus is superpowers because it's a separate thing to enjoy.

Overall, I don't think the game is too far gone to make a turnaround and become as enjoyable as it used to be.

I think you do have a point with the whole "made in the image of its collabs" topic, but I think it also has to do with Fortnites reputation around 2019-2020 as a kids game, so inch by inch, to pull back its older audiences, it make it more like realistic games like Call of Duty. It's hard to say if any of the collab skins from then to now wouldn't have fit in with the rest of Chapter 2.

I'm completely checked out of Fortnite at this point. I feel like I experienced all the game had to offer and now I feel like there's absolutely nothing they could do to ever peak my interest again.

Don't get me wrong there's definitely a lot of fun things to be had in the game now, now that the horrendous Chapter 5 is almost over. But I just can't bring myself to care any further.
