The vocal is still too boxy in my opinion, I would eq it, even if it’s just under 1db of subtraction it still makes a difference.

Did I hear correctly? Boost and attenuate 100hz, the same freq. Doesn't one cancel the other? Gotta be a better way.

Honestly, I think this bad advice for beginners. Telling people to be sheepish with their eq choices is going to only send them in the wrong direction. 99 percent of artists might be doing this because it’s how you get a modern polished sound.

This is all and good if you have a balanced recording already, even proximity etc. I usually have what I call a vocal-edit chain when I’m editing with dynamic EQ and compressor (depending on recording chain) which I commit to before mixing the different buses where these subtle techniques comes into play.

I don’t stop moving shit around until I sound like Optimus prime, but it works for the media I make. I’m not a singer, so I’m not going for a perfect curation, I just let the AKG C414 cut through. I’m focused on getting the best takes possible, and sometimes annunciation takes a hit if it means the capture checked off most of the boxes. Speaking properly on certain genres like darkspin trap should also be avoided, as it breaks the immersion, and the FXs help pick up your annunciations and add a texture of sorts. Result is like a mix between Yeat, Redda, and Travis. My next goal is to pick up RX 11 and stack that with Ozone to create a conveyor belt work ethic where i’m never in one area for too long. Making the beat/song itself should take the most time for me. Mastering and dialing vox are my weak areas, but videos like this help me understand just how many rules i’m breaking. I can stay on key if It stay inspired, so I basically tap into this alter ego of sorts, and lean into the role. I’m talking near peaking flangus, chorus/delay bus is reaching fr the sky, and I know if Dave Pensado or some shit was to look at my sesh, he’d probably call the cops. I follow like 80%-90% of general engineering protocol then I leave the rest for modulation/experimenting. I know now in Trap people want to soft clip their songs right into hell, and underground have pretty much abandoned mastering as a priority altogether, but I can commit to that. lol my body cringes in disgust if I let it that shit turn into crack soup. Thanks for the video and let’s have fun.
