As far as I know, the US had a Paramount influence in Pakistan since its birth. The country's founding leadership chose the USA over the USSR. Pakistan also has an elite who has practically captured all major resources of Pakistan. This elite controls nearly all the major political parties and the army. It has vested interests in the USA, not to mention properties in Western countries. It's also highly biased towards western hemisphere because of its education from Western institutions.
I guess that's why Pakistanis think that the US is their major ally (in fact Pakistan's reliance on US aid and IMF has kept its shambled Economy in check). Therefore, the discussion pivots towards a choice of some sort between the USA and China.

It is worse to be America's friend then enemy.

It is strategic necessity . Because any Pakistani leader has not the fundamental sense of any loyalty. They live only on one principle that , " live for money and die for money." Their ultimate aim becomes either living in U.A.E. (Dubai ), or somewhere in a western country . Unfortunately the China can't offer them a luxurious and safer life in China after their retirement or a removal from power. President Zardari is just pretending to be Brave Infront of a few people. Otherwise he also looks for the future of his family in U.S.A. / U.K/ or perhaps in somewhere in U.A.E . Same as the Pakistani Army Generals . China is not a religious country. So in long terms not suitable for any Pakistani Elite class person.
