Can you help with how to set up gimp such that when i open it , it instantly opens with a new image?

As someone who downloaded Gimp yesterday I am an absolute newbie. Your tutorial is very good but as with all tutorials you move rather quickly as you are obviously very familiar with the application. I think it would help someone, like me just learning, if you went just a wee bit slower. The only thing I need gimp for is placing and editing text on an image for use at a church bulletin board. Thank you so much sir. God bless
