A champion doesn’t hide away, fighting old guys and people from lower weight classes to legitimise their claim to a belt that they no longer deserve. If you don’t legitimately believe that you can defend the title by beating every fighter in your division - you are not the champion, you’re just the guy who has the belt, for now.

there really need to be more rules surrounding how long you can hog a title and duck rightful contenders. The organization owns the title, it needs to be treated with fairness. People dedicate - and risk - their lives for this stuff.
